Andrew Gold was a great musician and singer. I graduated from H.S. in 1974, so I remember him well. I went to see Linda Ronstadt when he played in her band. And I love his songs. I was so blessed to see all of the great groups in person in the 70's, 80's, 90's, and a few in 2006. He died way too young.

This song reminds me of Phillipa, I was maybe 14, when the song came out, I was so shy, my first real crush, gypsy skirts, granny boots, that was the fashion for girls then. I can still see her, long black hair and deep brown eyes. I heard from old school friends, she lost her battle with cancer last year. Maybe we can meet again, as we were then, in the next life...

I love Dave, Foo Fighters are my favorite band, but this song gives me the heebie jeebiez... I think it's because it was covered by a group in the UK in the early 90s at a time in my life when something pretty awful happened to me, and now when I hear it it just makes me feel yucky, which is sad as I can see the influence this, and other songs of its ilk, have had on Dave's song writing. It's literally only one of a couple of song that do that to me. Typical lol.

It has that effect on millions to this day Keith; You don't have to explain since we all feel it too. After years of trying to get a multi-channel copy of this(audio engineer) I was able to finally isolate the backing vocals and confirmed what has been an "open secret" behind this song for so long; It is indeed the legendary Freddie Mercury on harmonies as you can really hear him when the line "on a school date" comes up.

@@k_DAN Well, either way great epic beat sound in music back in the day! One of a kind! Thank you for sharing the information. May I also share, here in my country the Philippines, many Filipinos would play a similar game as kids using the similar clapping procedure of 2 or more people gathered round w/c I just don’t remember the name. The clapping is done whilst the players chant something like a nursery like rhyme and ending with a phrase “ READY, CAMERA ACTION!” The object of the game is to stare each other at the face without blinking, squinting , or moving a muscle. The first one who does, is the first one out and eliminated, continuing in succession until only one person remains. The last guy to remain wins the game.

My dad was stationed in Germany in the 80s. My mum would take me on the back of her bike to clean the barracks when it was empty and I’d sit and play with cars. I can still see my mums young face smiling and singing this to me. Wherever I go I’ll always see that. Love you mum

l was 22 when this song was released, and I loved it, 44 years later, it still sounds fresh and I love it. A song that will remain timeless which will help keep this very talented artist's memory alive.

I’m here only because Dave Grohl said in an article that this is the most beautiful song of all time.

The first couple of measures always fooled me when I had the radio on. Made me think the Eagles were getting ready to sing, but I was pleasantly surprised when Andrew Gold's voice & keyboards came across the airwaves

I do wish someone would come and blow a saxophone in my ear while I am playing the piano.
