What Labour hasn’t admitted is that the home owners, landlords, motorists, all business owners, pensioners, and many others will be hit with tax rises. Just going about our daily lives car fuel taxes will rise, vehicle licensing will rise, insurance will be taxed, access to towns and cities will be taxed, ULEZ will be everywhere. Taxes on food and drink will rise. Everything will get more expensive so taxes are raised for Labour’s pledges.

Council tax is stuck in 1991? Mine has gone up year by year since then, and is now the most expensive in England.

The more Labour promises not to put up tax the more I expect them to come after private pensions. Public sector pensions will only ever get better.

They will line their own pockets they always have.

Council tax bands haven't changed but councill tax has. The band is now just a property rating. The valuation has nothing to do with what we pay. To assume any other is pure ignorance.

They keep saying the will not raise income tax or N.I, but they are going to keep thresholds frozen until 2018. That is raising those taxes.

To make a point that council tax hasn't been revalued since the 90s is a nonsense...every year it goes up by 5% (in my area) even thought interest rates have been almost zero for 10+ years.. So much so that I was worried council tax would eventually become unpayable.

Serious question: why is it that Labour pledging to keep the main 3 taxes at their current rate is so intensely scrutinised but The Tories pledging tax cuts left and right isnt? If the economic forecast isnt great how could the Tories afford to cut taxes without making major cuts to public services? This point never seems to be analysed. If they’re offering tax cuts to voters i think we should be picking that apart as much as any Labour manifesto plans.

Of course Labour will increase taxes, then send the money to Africa etc. to line the pockets of the Presidents of those countries.

Smarmer is very good at saying what he will not do but very reticent to say what he will do.Expect increased fuel duty, the usual increase on beer, spirits and tobacco. Wales labour has never been shy in putting up council tax. Some areas n Wales were over 9% increase in 2023 and 2024. Labour in Wales has managed to lose large companies from Wales, we have very little here in the way of large production areas. Wales has nothing here but labour still increased members of the Senydd from 60+ to just shy of 100, so more of our tax is going to pay each of these members in excess of £40000 a year, maybe pro rata, but labour are known for claiming extra and for things they have not done. £40 million wasted on researching the expansion of the M4 to make access to Wales easier. That was stopped as soon saw Drakeford got in for his 2nd term. Read up on the Caerphilly 6, giving themselves a payrise behind closed doors. Labour can’t be trusted.

Labour has no understanding of economic growth and like Governments before them will see a decline in real economic returns. Their focus is to increase taxation as its primary means of increasing public spending. This has been going on for years and is draining the prosperity of everyone regardless of class. There needs to be a wholescale revolt against a political system that is directing the peoples savings towards individuals and corporate interests that makes a few much richer and the poor much poorer.

More tax? What for, I've got my own bills to pay. Also, businesses are already paying loads extra to deal with Brexit red tape. Banks are earning a fortune through rip off interest rates, and council tax keeps rising whilst services diminish. We're already paying more than we can afford.

If you don't give the tax back paid into pension pots that would amount to double taxation, which to my mind would be a criminal offence. Double billing is an offence, so double taxation could easily constitute an offence, regardless of who's doing it. Remember, you pay tax when you start collecting your pension. What a load of tosh.

I understand Starmer and Reeve's fear of scaring middle england away from voting for them but as the IFS said none of this adds up, they talk about itll all be paid for by growth but none of the kind of serious money to kickstart growth-even their big green investment was watered down. The few figures they have mentioned are small amounts, its tinkering not righting a country in need of major change.

Glad that the discussion is that the Labour policies are sensible and there is no magic wand for an overnight fix. I hope the electorate appreciates this rather than moaning the day after the election, but I fear that the majority will not appreciate long-term priorities and complain that they cannot afford Sky.

Neither tory nor labour can be trusted. The amount of waste in government spending is appalling. We need to get rid of all the spending on things that are not essential and improve management of public services like the NHS and armed forces. The problem with public spending is that the people spending the money i.e. government and their departments don’t have to earn it. It sickens me when I hear anyone say the government should pay for something not realising that governments don’t have any money, they are spending money they are taking from you as a taxpayer. We have in this country a dependence culture demanding more and more services in the belief that the money to pay for them comes from government. It doesn’t, It comes out of our pockets. Net Zero will make zero difference to what happens with the climate yet this obsession is costing us all billions in hidden taxes. The UK contributes only 1% of global greenhouse gasses of which CO2 has a minor effect on climate yet here we are ploughing on with policies that will ruin us financially while China and India construct hundreds of coal fired plants regardless of their effect on climate. Europe is the only continent that takes net zero seriously. Net zero is a dangerous pipe dream.

The government would be wise to address the weath leaks from the uk economy that are associated with inward foreign investment. By definition foreign investors expect to take out far mor than they put in. Foreign shareholders are parasites on the uk economy, a classic example is the private monopoly water companies.

I'm on the cusp of being one week in 40%, another under. I've literally no insentive to work overtime, so to lose 24 minutes in any hour to the tax man. Obviously, the more i work, the more tax collected, so I ask why doesnt any politicians let us working class people tare away. We will create wealth and buy more climb housing ladders spend more.
