Mm the square blocks were quite unappealing, like the Windows 8 start menu. The rounded squares that are used extensively throughout iOS and stock Android are still systematically arranged rather than looking like brickwork.

@@BassBanj0 indicating camera and microphone use was done in iOS. The privacy features were obviously gotten from from iOS. The design however makes android have more like a google design with the big buttons, etc. Making the OS animations smoother is also trying to catch up to iOS.

When showing someone a photo zoom in a tiny bit, that way when they try to swipe they move around the image and then you can take the phone back from.thwm before they figure it out

I really like the new design, one thing I feel like I wont like is that we then have less quick settings visible when swiping down once. I feel like every update, they change many good things but also remove one very neat feature, so that you get bugged out by it not existing anymore. Examples being the battery percentage not visible anymore when swiping down the quick settings, or the gesture control that they had after the three button layout that didnt support precisely switching between multiple apps after they've released the new gesture control.

If you have the time and if your haven't already, you should listen to/watch the Waveform podcast by MKBHD. Specifically the recent episode about Android 12. They had a discussion on the reasoning behind the redesigns. The gist of it is, they're trying to push the limits of UI until the usability is broken, then roll it back a few steps. Current UI conventions push for the maximization of usable space and they were trying to move away from it. In terms of quick settings, they probably noticed that most users only have very few essential toggles that they press all the time (I can attest to that), so they felt it would be better to enlarge said essentials so they would be easier and more pleasant (?) to access all the time. That was very long winded, hope you have the time to read it all lol

All I want is single design for widgets. There's too many old widgets with sharp angles and look outdated. My Samsung widgets are coherent and I can adjust the transparency. Apple has a coherent widget language and just need to be more useful now.

I think what would be cool is you could set a base color, like OLED black, and then have android choose a highlight color based on your wallpaper. so you get OLED black base every time but the highlight color can change

Maybe I am the only one but by the looks of Android 12, I can say I am more comfortable with the interface on 11. In the run to make it look more appealing, Google has made 12 too circular & clumsy. If they are offering a lot of customisations to the user, please let there be an option to apply 11 like looks and themes.

One of the first things I do is disable animations to make things snappier. I care about power savings, security, performance, stability and compatibility. Also bring back split screen single app switching out. Since 11 having both split screen apps stop when I press the three lines breaks my multitasking which is a total goof.

YAY! I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't be ‼️😀 I love my Pixel. Everyone I know that has a Samsung, I feel so bad for them. Stuff is always goofed up or locked up on them, they always say to me, "I didn't download this, I don't use this .." Pixel all the way! For many reasons ‼️❤️

@@libertymartin5167 Google is definitely trying to position the Pixel as viable Android alternative to an Iphone. I like the iPhone but don't feel compelled to own one for 2 important reasons... Price for what you get And the closed off nature of the OS. Everything else I like. I like the hardware design, the user interface and long support window so to have those on a capable android phone would be the bees knees.

@@dylancleverley398 Its not opensource. Android manufacturers actually have to pay for an license to update their devices. Thats why most pay the bare minimum.

@@ChrisBa303 Nope, Android is open source but they've to pay for licence to use GMS (Google apps). Even then, it's not expensive but what's expensive is to employ a bunch of people using the company's resources to modify the OS to run on that particular device with lots of testing, rolling out via Ota without any bugs.

I appreciate Sameer's reply in acknowledging that advertisement and Google, together, is an ecosystem. I am all up for privacy, but I don't want one day entire internet becoming premium service based because ad services were wiped out of the internet.

THIS. If people keep complaining about this then we'd have to pay for every single thing. I'm honestly okay with everything else, as long as my pictures, account information, and passwords are safe (not that I use Google as my main password manager)

As someone who uses Sony Xperia, their implementation of Android 12 might be interesting since their releases of Android 9 and up have been close to stock Android, which is something I like seeing them doing since they have some features not available on Google Pixel and other major brands.

while the big buttons might be weird and clunky to some, I think we should consider the accessibility of it all. big button size makes things easier to touch especially for the elderly. and you can always just get a different phone with a different ui if it bothers you that much :/

What I like about Android is that I can completely turn off all animations and transitions in the developer menu. I hope that option remains as although the animations look cool at first they get old quick, I don't care for slow animations. I prefer fast instant snappy.
