In this review, I share my take on the much-loved Campfire Andromeda 2020, with references to the Sony IER M9, another well-regarded IEM, at around a similar price range.

I came here from the M9 Vs M7 review video. I must say you've answered all the questions I had with respect to the M9. Subscribed vai.

The keypoint of me buying the M9 was its godlike imaging. Glad that you felt the same way.

Yeah, it's shockingly good. Technically, it beats the Andro handily.

That it is. I like the cork material more (in the 2020 version).

Will leave a kudos for having a "genre matching" section. That should be made a standard.

I've had both and kept the M9. Andromeda are prone to hissing on certain sources. Great vocal presentation but a tad bass light while the M9 are more even across the spectrum.

For a low volume we want bright tuning. For a loud volume I love the Sony . The voice sounds like there is harmonizer. Like 2 voices 1 thicker one lighter. Sony gift

Came back to this old video because I just saw the speakers behind you... is that the SF Electa Amator III? That must sound amazing.

Great review thanks. M9 vs Z1R on my endgame wishlist. Still not sure which I’d go for.

@sjqideez6626 Год назад
Please note the Z1R are big & heavy, not the best for fit, ergonomics & comfort. I prefer the M9 to it.

M9 are the safest choice in the $1000+ price range, blind buy. Z1R, you must try them first, sound and fit are not for everyone.

I always thought I would love the M9 sound, but when I finally had a listen, I was put off by the muddiness compared to andromeda and the buildup of air pressure, which I found straight up painful.

I found it a tad muddy, myself. Wondered why others don't talk about it.

@@amplifyaudioreviews It's probably because of the elevated midbass, i also find it too much sometimes. But it's easy enough to EQ it down a little.

Thanks for the review! I bought the andromeda 2020 and one thing I noticed is that it tends to produce sibilance on certain tracks which starts to make me think whether this is the right IEM for me. In regards to sibilance what is the difference between the M9 and Andromeda according to you?
@amplifyaudioreviews
@amplifyaudioreviews 2 года назад
M9 is much warmer mate and not sibilant at all

Hey Sajid, I am in a dilemma and will post a lengthy comment to explain my situation. Would appreciate your advice. So I have recently gotten into this hobby and went through quite a few headphones (over ear) using Amazon's amazing return policy lol. I tried the Beyerdynamic Dt 177x, Ultrasone 900i, Sony MDRZ7M2, Audeze LCD 1 (arrived with a dead driver), Hifiman Ananda and the Sennheiser hd660s. I ended up keeping the HD660s since it was on a sale. However after a month or so of listening to it I became bored and irrated due to the sibilance and harshness in the treble/birghtness. I suppose they are too neutral and bright for my taste, so I ended up giving then to my sister and have now ended up with the Hifiman Arya and I am definitely keeping this one, it's the best I have heard. However, I can still return them as I am supposed to demo the new Focal Clear MG once the sotre opens next week. The thing I si had already tried out the older Clears and the Radiance and preferred the Radiance (as the Clears would easily clip with bass heavy songs). I listen to all genres (60's-2000's) but mostly edm, hip hop, R&B, pop, and international genres lol. Now I do find the Arya bright with certain tracks, but most of the time they sound like layered clear speakers - amazing. I am trying new amps currently but I have decided that most likely I will keep these as I seem to prefer the planar sound signature vs the dynamic drivers one. Btw I am running everything off an iFi Micro idsd Signature with Tidal MQA and running everything balanced. Currently using Topping A90 but it's too clinical for my taste so I have ordered a Gustard H16, and if that doesn't work then I will either go for the Singxer SA-1 or Schiit Jotunheim 2. I also have a cheap balanced tube amp, the Loxjie P20 to warm things up if anything but it's not that good (only $120). Anyway, I also needed an IEM for travelling this summer and have cut it down to Andromeda and the IER-M9's, but after watching your video I am leaning towards the Sony's. You say they sound muddy at times but would you think that will actually suit my taste based on the information above - meaning it won't be bright or sibilant or do you mean the mids are too faded out (but then how can they be imaging and detail monsters?)? Also I am willing to save up a little more and just get the Nio's by 64 Audio which seem to suit my taste based on their discription. Which IEM would you suggest as I have no way of trying them before buying (I had recently tried out Moondrop's Blessing 2 and returned them as they were way to sibilant and harsh but bass was decent). So I am thinking of just staying away from the Chinese brands but on the forums I heard good things about Dunu DK-4001 so I might try them as they are much cheaper than the other options I mentioned (Andro 2020, M9, Nio) and I can return them through this Chinese seller (Shenzhen audio website). I used to have Audio Technica's Triple driver IEMs years ago and loved them with their clear and heavy bass and non-sibilant sound (before I got into over ear headphones) but unfortunately lost them and moved on to wirless buds (Sennheiser True Momentum 2). I will use the ifi micro idsd Signature as it does indeed have the ie match. Apologies for the lengthy rant, and thanks in advance for even reading it in its entirety lol.

Looks like you need something both bassy and slammy, Taimur. In the case of slam and punch, the M9 isn't exactly a standout performer. Despite it's elevated bass, it doesn't slam very hard. You will probably know that slam happens as a result of the midbass but more importantly driver material and the build of the IEM / headphone. To answer your other question, you can also have stand-out midrange performers which don't image well. Imaging tends to fall within "technical performance" parameters. In any case, given that fact that you like Radiance and Arya both but are sensitive to sibilance, you may want to consider either the 64 Audio Nio or the Unique Melody Mest? I am considering both myself, lol. Hope this helps.

Quite a few reviewers I've seen of Andromeda IEM products are sensitive or hiss on DAP's. Yet there are so many great Chifi IEMs are out that are not so sensitive. Not sure why I would want Andromeda that has hiss.

As long as your OI is around 1.5ohm or less, it’s fine. Even the apple dongle is fine on andros 🤷‍♂️ You’d buy them over chi fi because you want all the other things they offer over what a chi fi iem offers. If you don’t like the andro sound and imaging, certainly save your money and get something else!
