Here is another in the series of commercials for the original Macintosh that Chiat-Day produced in the fall of 1983. This one features software designer Andy Hertzfeld.
My Dad got a Macintosh 512K in late 1988, when I was 11. And using that desktop GUI for the first time was amazing! And even though the Apple IIe computers at my elementary school were great, I never liked going back to the command line interface that they had after using that Mac. Thank you for all of your hard work on the Macintosh Andy!
I haven't owned or even really used a Mac in about 20 years now, thanks to circumstances at work beyond my control... finally just getting around to reading the Jobs bio and it's making me pretty nostalgic. These old Mac team clips are so great, thanks for posting them. Much respect to you, Mr. Hertzfeld.
Your portion of the Steve Jobs Lost interview is Very insightful and powerful! Thanks for your concern for the user. I wish more co were insightful as you. May the Force be with you and hopefully someday I'll meet you. I helped introduce 3D imaging & tried to propell that type of software in NY State as a review tool in the 90s for project review however, like many... was stoped.
I remember my mom playing with the orginal Macintosh in a Computer Store when I was a kid, she was intrigued with it until she learned how much it costed. The Mac was orginally design to be the computer for everyone, that everyone could afford but internal politics drove the price up to 2495.00 in 1984.
Just out of curiosity Mr. Hertzfeld i always wanted to know more about the OS of the original Mac."System1.0". Was most of the system software implemented in the ROM?Like a firmware? Also people who have used the original Mac say that u could remove the diskette once the Mac booted up and you were using the desktop. Since (and this is my guess) part of the OS resided in the diskette itself how could u remove it just like that Wouldn't the Mac have to make use of it while running?
