Dude was busting out nollie nose manuals switch combos going back to 1990/91. He was dope on mini ramp too... Thr 1281 wallride over the Bell South Tower handrail... Still Epic. #Salute... if it weren't for Andy there'd be no Menace, DGK, etc
Straight up, guys, this show has been a vehicle for so many inspiring and real, heartfelt stories from some of the best people ever. THANK YOU for doing this, don't ever stop. Andy Howell has been one of my favorite artists since I was 14 years old. It is incredible to get this kind of insight and such great stories from him. You've created such a rad environment for these interviews too.
Such a cool ass dude. These interviews that really hit on the times I was growing up skating are such a big deal for me. So thankful for this show guys. Thank you 🙏🏼
I feel so lazy after I finished this ep, Andy has done so much in his life & he's still going strong!! Thanks for the ep & the inspiration Andy. I think this might be my favorite ep ever!!
Thank you for letting Andy share his story. He is a true Unsung hero...especially with regard to providing an unapologetic urban/hip hop vehicle with Underworld Element back in the early 90s.
I love this kind of interviews. Andy Howell shared with us a lot of the things about what is going on behind the curtain, and I always love to hear industry insider stories. Andy is renaissance man of skateboarding.
So stoked on the continuing success of VB native Andy Howell ! Thank-you 900 Club! I have some really kool archive footage of Andy Howell and VB Locals! Inspired to produce the stories from Va. Beach VA and the Windsor Woods Fork Crew! Thanks again! ....stay tuned!
Same. As big as the 80s were, New Deal took it in a whole new direction. I appreciated it because we were street skaters on the east coast and had mad hip-hop influence. This made more sense to me.
Words can hardly defined how absolutely groundbreaking and fresh the New Deal was when it came out. Till this day, I have a 3 by 3 foot New Deal banner framed in my living room!
Holy Crunch that last ten minutes was incredible and felt never ending in the best way possible. I am an artist and have been skating since i was ten, presently 30, and just wanted to shout out to Andy for the inspiration. I am a glass blower, about to hit my studio and create something that represents my life's inspiration.. Thank You Andy.. Thank You 9 Club. ~Tyler aka Weerd Glass~
I grew up in Atlanta. I met Andy at a B.C. Surf and Sport, demo in the 80's. I can't even say when, but I was a grom. Just a little little kid in full pads, at a jump ramp demo. I remember begging my father to take my helmet and pads off. So later in the 90's, New Deal was huge. Maybe skating " A&P future Store", with Andy. Maybe a session at Street Waves in Lithonia/ Stone Mountain? Andy is how I figured out skating downtown was rad... Bell South, and Later on Jamie Thomas... Anyways. Dallas Austin created Atlanta. Dallas did so many projects.
im a younger dude im 23. still a huge fan of skating and all of its history and i feel silly not knowing this guy. either way i loved this whole episode man has some sick stories.
147 the top score in snooker and my favorite episode of the Nine club, rode Andy's and Curtis McCann boards and have some New Deal and Underworld Element clothes in storage ! Thanxs boyos youve made the lock down bearable keep up the great work, much appreciated.
Oh wow man. When he starts talking about hip hop it’s like he’s explaining what happened a few years before I got into the scene as a beatmaker and dj. Lil John was mostly spinning reggae and a little bit of house music. I was always trying to make to Apache Cafe for the Drez the beatnik stuff as well as the bboy and house nights at MLK. Atlanta was the shit back then. Little 5 points was the spot if you wanted to meet graf artists, skaters, punks or rave kids.
This show reminds me of so much stuff that you tend to forget...like when a sequence was the only way to see a skater perform a trick in Transworld or Thrasher....kinda miss that a little bit honestly
Glad y'all got him on. He was a game changer for us in the old days. New Deal was so much more relatable to us in DC area. We didn't have a ton of ramps to skate, and we were all steeped in hip-hop. Really grateful for all New Deal brought. Get Douglas and Sarge on!!! Douglas has MAD time in the industry and is a really good soul.
I had the 411 (band) 45 with Mario R on drums, "face the flag" rewatching Mike V's part really took me back... about to buy that 7.5 popsicle stick and see if I can still pressure flip. hahaha. Thanks so much for what Andy and Professor "S" brought to skateboarding.
New Deal was such a big important era for me. Although there were like 5 different eras a year back then, lol. It was a big part of how I skate. I still own a odd Numbers 45
Leticia bufoni episode please, Andy anderson episode please, steve Alba episode please, thanks to Crob and all the guys for all the amazing context so far.
STUDIO GIGANT REDEYE PRODUCTION funny I had one for 2 days and the tail snapped doing a 360 shove it, I must have got a bad batch, I converted to blind it never broke jus wear an tear
Andy has made a career for himself I dream of accomplishing one day. Maybe going pro is out of the cards but everything else is in my power. Thanks CROB Rog and Kells for this great inspiring episode. Thanks Andy for sharing your story. Hang loose fellas
I skated my first and only Pro contest without a board sponsor too (I was turned pro and entered into the contest by my board sponsor that went out of business before the contest happened - I skated in it anyway), and funny thing is, Andy Howell skated in the same contest.
I was friends with Chris Hall and Pepe Martinez for a few years before Underworld Element started. It was such a sick time for me to see all the cool shit Andy Howell was doing for them. I remember when they both got their Skypagers. It was like some millionaire type shit. And then a couple years later my friend Andy Stone got on Element along with Reese Forbes and Carlos Kenner, and Element was great to them as well. That period from 1991 to 1994 was so awesome to be a skater in the DC area. And through the Element connection, I got to meet Jeff Pang and Harold Hunter who were both great skaters, and Lil' Stevie Williams who stayed in DC alot in that time. Lil' Stevie stayed in DC for months straight.
I learned how to draw my first eye, then my first face, and so on, as well as my friends. Thanks Andy. I know I wouldn't be who I am today if your new deal graphics sucked.
