I think he inspired a lot of comedy today. The Eric Andre Show, Sacha Baron Cohen's "Borat"; along with inspiring characters. For instance, "Perfect Strangers" had a character very similar to Andy's "Latki." He was brilliant and very misunderstood.
Some people say he was ahead of his time, the time for a true artist is now. Always now. No matter what generation, time period, year, etc. Laughter is forever. Lenny Bruce, Andy Kaufmann, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, always timeless.
Showed Pryor to my older kids a few days ago... Pryor absolutley devestated. His wife responds, not getting what was deeply upsetting Richard. Richard then replies... " I gave him the wrong finger!" Look it up and thank me later. Love you all!
Holy shit I just noticed this came out today. For whatever reason I was just thinking about Andy Kaufman and did a RU-vid search and this was the first result. Synchronicity!
I’m going to ruin the magic for you, but logic over ignorance. With the amount of people that know Andy, and his popularity being decently big enough, there will be without a doubt, a handful of different people around the world searching his name in youtube everyday, so if any video about Andy is uploaded, it will be almost a 100% chance that someone will think about him on the day someone uploaded a video of him, and it happens to be you.
For years I wished that he was faking his death as a prank but now I think his ultimate gift to his strange comedy legend was in just leaving us with the idea that it was something he'd pull on the world at all.
Have you listened to his "Album" Andy Kaufman and his Grandmother? There on the Track "I want those tapes" at the end he's talking to his friend about how he would become immortal if the faked his death.
I think he played a 50/50? I think he did not die. No I think he did becuase he could not help being that famous. No but that would be the best joke. No... I don't know...
@@christineparis5607 Always odd but that was just him. Professional in his own way. Nicer than most if you were dealing with him honestly. Friendly but guarded. He knew the public didn't really care for his brand of humor so he had to protect himself.
The David letterman episode where he slapped Jerry Lawler was brilliant. I remember everyone at work the next day discussing if it was real...totally sold it..He loved messing with the audience..Also loaded a bus up with his audience and took them to get milk and cookies..way ahead of his time. God bless you Andy
@@evhvariac2 you could hear it. It was loud and sounded authentic. That's not to say it couldn't have been faked by a talented sound man but it was a hell of a job if so.
I didn't know much about Kaufman other then the movie feat Jim Carey , looking at his work and vision from a far....Andy was a genius and way ahead of his time. He raised the comedy and entertainment bar and truly lived his truth. What an inspiration, I'm gonna go watch The Andy Kaufman movie again!! What a brilliant mind 👏.
There’s a lot of great subversive comedians since Kaufman who seem to really hold his unusual spirit well intact in their methods. Brilliant talents like Tom Green, Nathan Fielder, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eric Andre, etc., who all understand that there’s grey-areas to comedy and entertainment, and that these grey-areas can and should be explored. Whether or not Andy really is dead, his spirit through courageous inspiration is most definitely still alive and will and shall forever remain that way ❤️
Nathan Fielder is probably the best example you could give. You can find old podcasts where Nathan is out of here, and it’s quite jarring when compared to the version of him that we see on tv, talk shows, and interviews.
Sacha is not in the ball park a cheapskate that played people due to his lack of confidence (Very talented don't get me wrong) Tom Green hammer nail. Thanks for bringing up the other names I don't know. I love you all!
@@commenter2336 wait… Sacha Baron Cohen isn’t confident..? Dude literally almost got killed on NUMEROUS occasions due to his comedy, whilst fully aware that this would likely happen lmao. How is that not confidence??
@@kris242 Dude don't get me wrong, more confident to most but I was comparing him to what he could be. It was his short coming no doubt .Sash is very funny to be sure. But... the "Dude literally almost got killed on NUMEROUS occasions" is utter ripe trash, straight up nonsense. I'm tired and so this is going to come out as arrogant but... Read a book??
Andy kaufman used to always try to stay one step ahead of the audience he used to talk about faking his own death I wish he actually did and he was still alive great entertainer god rest his soul
I loved this man in the 70’s. To bad he’s not still around. Taxi was only passable to watch because of him. He had the life he wanted and I hope is now happy. R.I.P
"I think you straighten up a little bit. I think you should-I think you know, you should look at yourself in the mirror sometimes and say "Look, what am I doing? Why-why am I this way?" "I don't know why you're doing it but it's not good, it's not healthy- it's not right. Not that I'm saying you don't have it together, I'm sure you do. You're a genius, you really are."
Andy and Jerry Lawler had the best reaction in wrestling like no other. Even the talk show. It was great Kaufman framed all his wrestling checks cause the man loved wrestling so much. So sad he died
Andy loved and greatly respected wrestling and wrestlers alike and according to Jerry he was always extremely polite and respectful to everyone he ever worked with. And thanks to Andy people all over starting watching wrestling that had never cared about it before and helped make wrestling a huge spectacle! God bless Andy, you were truly one of a kind and my self and many others who grew up knowing, loving, or even hating you will never forget you!
The Jim Carrey movie doesnt make sense or make him Justice at all. Have started to watch his stuff and its really mindblowing good, what an awesome person and entertainer. Theres something sincere and honest to all his stuff also that makes it more than just comedy. Such a lovely guy ❤
@motoboy6666 Jim Carrey acted as well as he could in the film but I felt like he overdid it, especially the Elvis impersonation. AK radiated more warmth and loveliness (I know that sounds strange for a man, but he seemed that way to me, as can be seen in many videos here). It's possible that he was often mad as hell, but even now he still seems incredibly lovable to me.
Yeahh… It so random.. I never smoke more than 1 cigarette a day, but sometimes I’m scared that it would give me cancer.. You can never really prevent your doomsday.. You can only try..
Why was Jim Carrey shown couple of times when it was about Andy Kaufman?...like at 4:05 and before the guy jumping on stage pretending being a weird conductor of a band...
@@keitumetsem1344 (3 years later) We can't know all the artists. I'm only 2 years younger than Andy Kaufman was but I didn't know about his existence until early June 2024! He was probably unknown here in Austria and only a few people knew him in Germany. But ever since I found out about him, I want to know and see everything about him; I like him immensely.
From ALICE COOPER MARILYN MANSON and STRYPER and in punk and METAL followed the ANDY KAUFMAN way.. TRULY THE GUY WITH THE GENIUS.. AND TRULY AHEAD OF HIS TIME.
@memyopinionsche6610 (3 years later) I'm goin' crazy, I thought the same! For me, Andy Kaufman is the shock rocker among entertainers. Not as intense as the rock stars you mentioned though but sometimes quite similar.
He was at one point the most famous man in the world. Kids now-a-days wouldnt understand just how legendary he really was. His humor was extremelh advanced
@ice KOld I don't know if he is better known in other European countries than in Germany and Austria. I am Austrian and saw his first video at the beginning of June 2024.
Andy Kaufman faked his death, and then created a character called Jim Carrey. Whom he continues to play to this day. He's a very committed comedian, Andy Kaufman is.
See the movie as it is quite interesting......Kaufman was well...somewhat of a genius...... yet agitating. Very interesting person no doubt and worth researching......
I was a fan at 12/13 76-77 on up and liked his Elvis impersonation and Taxi, I was a fan of Jim Carry and I thought he was right on in the movie. If they faked their own death as a fan we should respect that 🤷🏻♂️
I bet Andy's here in these comments right now goofing around somehow. Being a true Kaufman fan I never thought he died way back when, as with knowing the Letterman/ Lawler incident was staged. His true fans knew and know. He simply ended his career doing the ultimate Elvis impersonation, in having us wonder if he's alive or dead. Sadly though we'll never know the truth, because it would destroy his genius.
There is absolutely nothing tragic about Andy Kaufman's life. He wasn't extremely bright light and he lived to the fullest. Anyone can get cancer and die but not everyone can live fully and joyously like he did and the joy that he gave to everybody else. It's insulting to call his life tragic
I thought the Great Gatsby routine ended by the audience being given a choice of hearing him read the Great Gatsby, or listen to a record.... which was a recording of him reading the Great Gatsby...
at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buff
Andy, when he went to philippines to get cure, but he suddenly saw the fake ness the guy doing to him, and he laughed hard that he knew he will die. Because andy kaufman loves pshycic medications which is he try, to doing with his self in the philippines, but he suddenly saw that person faking that fulling of the chicken so it come out the blood on the stomach, and andy saw that thing so On his mind, he knew one they he will die, so that's the hardest laugh he made before he died.
