Likewise! Pretty sure this guy started the whole percussive element trend that is so prevalent now. What a trendsetter! Well done Andy, you should be proud of yourself
I wish he would come to New England...I have been a Michael Hedges Fan since I was a kid thanks to my dad. As soon as I discovered Andy I was hooked. Was just watching him cover Aerial Boundaries after I decided to watch this one.
It's 2023 and haven't watched this for over 15 years. Now I'm unlocking some core memories from hearing this melody. Thank you Andy, 2007 was a great year.
@@joelsero Yeah... sometimes it's not about who comes up with a technique or does it first... it matters on a variety of factors... right time, place, and lots of luck
Haven’t listened to this in at least 12+ years. Out of the blue today I thought “what was the name of that guy who would drift on the guitar on RU-vid?” A couple simple searches and I’m back. 👌
2023 and I looked that song up for over an hour. It’s now 1:14am and I am so glad I didn’t give up. Heard it the first time in 2011. It’s simply a great piece of art! Glad I found it again. ❤
I was also 12 years old. I could't believe my eyes and ears this is possible to do on a guitar. I fell in love with fingerstyle music so much. Antoine Dufour, Don Ross and Andy McKee were a holy trinity for me.
I can finally play this song, after 14 years of dreaming of it. What gets me is how he is able to do the whole thing in one go without screwing up, I struggle so much
Lol. Truly. Back In RU-vid's very early years before mass uploading and Vevo and music videos when this classic Andy McKee video was the most viewed video on RU-vid. I remember that too.
I remember when I first saw this video there was a comment saying that he played so well, all the hairs on his head came down to listen more closely. This was 10 years ago and I still find it hilarious. Love the song, brings back so many memories. How times have changed so quickly!
I remember making that comment at the libary of my college when I first listened to this song. Those were so many years ago and coming back to this song brings back a lot of those memories.
It used to be the consistent top voted comment on this video. People would repost it and get thousands of likes and make it all the way to the top. I once did it myself lol.
2024. I remember being in high school about 2008-2009 ish listening to this and being in awe. Here we are, still in awe over 16 years later...time flies, but legendary songs like this never die ✌️
This video really is a certified hood classic. I discovered it in 7th grade when I begun my acoustic journey. I’m 26 now! Andy McKee is truly inspiring; I play fingerstyle because of him.
Even when I have zero time/spoons to engage in social media platforms, I'll still find space to scroll Andy's feeds and hit him with a like on every new video and post I see because he shaped my entire musical anatomy and I'll never be the same after this song. Simply stunning. Find him on all the sites and like every single thing if you feel the same. He deserves it.
I started an experiment to test your hypothesis...didn't have to wait for beard growth to prove you wrong: first I got hungry, then I got thirsty, then I...had a accident and had to curtail further experimentation. Two accidents, actually...if truth be told (I have an enquiring mind: SUE ME!) Anyway; turns out you're wrong; _dead wrong!_ Also, you can't eat ASMR... *_"Wilson!"_*
15 years ago you made me buy my first guitar just so you know. 15 years gone, and still learning this song because I'm always ending up just laying down and listening to it...
This song gave me inspiration to play guitar, got me into it, and now, 3-4 months after starting, i can play this song (of course not as well)🙂 I’m learning For My Father now.
And we’re still band mates** you make it sound so possessive that you own him for your own thing the way you word it :0 But I know you don’t mean it like that, that’s very inspiring
@@arthurmilano2920 you’re absolutely right I worded that wrong. But yes we still jam to this very day. A little more of a hippie jam band sound now a days since we are older! Haha
Andy McKee was the first "youtube artist" I started following. I fell in love with his style, then bought the download for The Art of Motion. Glad to see 10 years later and people still love him.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY MCKEE!!!! See the man live at LEAST once, at some point in your lives guys. That would be an excellent gift, both to yourselves and him!
I remember when I was forwarded this song from a friend like 7 years ago when it came out. Then remembered that 7 years ago I wasn’t 22 and I now realise that 22 is 13 years ago.
Just goes to show that good music is everlasting. You can’t put time on it. I’ll listen to this many times over for the next 45-55 years until I’m dead.
One of RU-vid's very first "viral videos." This is the video that got me started with Andy, and Candyrat, like so many others. Here I am, some 15 years later, still jamming out!
jb111082 Meaning he probably taught himself how to play a guitar instead of learning in a constructed traditional classroom. It's a compliment to those who think outside the box.
Dolph C. Volker Oh ok. Thanks for clearing that up. I, too, taught myself how to play the guitar. Granted, I'm nowhere near the caliber of guitarist that Andy is. Anyways, I totally agree with you, now that I understand what you meant.
Dolph C. Volker he actually had lessons on the guitar but I do see whereyou're going in your point. :) In interviews he has talked about his lessons briefly and he also said he used to practice 8 hours a day or at least a coupel per day.
Andy has such a unique playstyle, he can do whatever he wants with the guitar and it's like it listens to him, plus the melodies he creates are beautiful... What an inspiration !
14 years later and people are still watching this. This was ground breaking for me at the time. I didn't know that a person is capable of doing such things to a guitar. My mind was blown I almost didn't believe it.
god i love this so much.....listened this masterpiece first time sometime during 2011 and now its 2021. the melody just takes you through your own past memories.....absolute beautiful music!
When I first saw this video, I was 14 or 15. At the time there was a local music venue in town that my life basically revolved around. It was a big deal for a lot of us kids. This video was UNREAL to us, and spread like wildfire. Clearly, we weren’t the only music scene that was captivated. I’m now 28 and working a corporate job, with a house and three pets lol. The past 14 years have been filled with hurdles - some self induced and others out of my control. Sometimes I miss the simpler times, but this song still gives me a sense of hope and appreciation for life that it gave me when I first heard it.
Just like so many other people I'm sitting here listening to this in 2022 and I first heard this song over 10 years ago and it sounds just as good as when I first heard it, makes me think of so many good times playing guitar with old friends who I kept in touch with and some I've lost touch with but those memories will always be there and to be able to listen to a song that brings all those memories back is something quite special. Thank you for that Andy
I watched this video when it first came out. And 17 years later I thought what is this song called and yes I am happy to still remember it. Andy McKee is him. Been him
I can't believe this video is at 50 million views! The last time I watched it was about 8 years ago when it hit 300k and I thought it was amazing then!
man I still remember watching this song back in 2006 for the first time. totally flashed by this massive talent and composition I've spent many weeks during the upcoming summer holidays learning and practicing this masterpiece as a teenager. After all these years it still brings me so much joy, especially when showing off skills to friends and family. thx Andy 🤘🏼
Just remembered this song - but couldn’t remember name of the artist - took me ages to find haven’t watched this video for over a decade - but thankfully rediscovered it. Incredible piece and performance.
This is the reason I started playing guitar. So inspiring. So unique for its time. This sound will always be refreshing and clean. What a song. Andy I hope you understand the impact you had on new musicians even though you are not considered a significant artist. This IS music at its finest. Still in awe.
2023. I found this masterpiece when I was probably 8-10yo, I’m 24 now. I often hear this melody in my mind. It’s been 14-16 years since my ears were first blessed with Drifting and I’ll never forget it.
