amazing that its been that long. drifting used to be one of the most viewed videos on youtube in the late 2000s. candyrat was always the cradle of this beauty also. absolute virtuosos.
Indeed. I started to learn guitar playing much more instensively since I saw exactly these videos :) And still Don Ross, Michael Hedges, Andy and Tommy are my favourite players :) I then gave up learning for some reasons, probably mainly cause of my laziness, but now I took guitar back into my arms and start learning again :) That time I somehow learnt how to play Aerial Boundaries and Tight Trite Night in somekind of simple versions, now I'm going to learn all those mindblowing tunes of the musicians above :)
i saw him live in Holland 2 years ago, absolutely amazing! This man is the GOD of guitars! This Don Ross cover is one of my favorites, freaking unbelievably good..
This song is so good, it’s one of those songs that you can just change so easily and give it a different feel, my old teacher tried teaching me this song and I ended up playing it my own way that’s still evolving to this day and that’s what’s so great about this song, it’s so easy to get lost in and alter and make your own, it’s hard for anyone to make a song like that
The reason why Mr. McKee is such a wonderfull artist/guitar player is his strength. Every song he plays, he has full dynamic controll. And that makes a clear sound of the strings, and the melody comes out just as Mr. McKee here intends. But manly, just a musical genius can perform songs like this. .. Thank you Mr. McKee.
i used to serve this guy coffee at starbucks when he lived in mineola texas. he always ordered an iced caramel macchiato. he would always make a comment about, "Drifting" through. never knew what that meant until now.
@Justin McKee Andy's has a more percussive feel. Don's is more melodic, both are awesome. Also I wouldn't say this was a strict cover, this version got a lot more going on. More like Andy's version.
I've seen many versions of that song, but I like that one most. Maybe also because Andy is the only one who seems to have fun while playing. No stress, he is just relaxed it seems. And that is the Magic of that song..
he has not just a perfect technique and an incredible precision, but, most important, puts an astonishing harmonia between the notes! i envy him soo mutch!
I think Andy has still not been surpassed by the younger generation of fingerstyle players like Mike Dawes. Andy's dynamics, power and control are unmatched.
Just see his impatience to play guitar just see the joy of he feels while playing guitar. These are the characteristics of a professional Second - SUNGHA BROUGHT ME HERE. Third - U R really GOOD
The encredible detail of this performance just keeps blowing my mind! I have a rather broad taste in music, but to me this is the absolute high of composition and performance I have ever heard and seen. Thank you Don, thank you Andy, you are my musical heroes!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the beautiful happy rhythm in this work of art. Makes me want to dance all night. : -) Thanks Andy McKee for sharig your fantastic talent with us. Believe me you bring such Joy to so many souls that need this energy right Now to awaken and move on to higher lever. Peace and Love!!! :-)
It's just great to see how much even Andy enjoys his own music when he's playing. He just feels music inside him and keep playing and listening and feeling good.
It's a facet of fingerstyle, which is what he dominates so much at. He is flicking the sound board as he strums and hitting the strings in a more percussive way. Among other things, these get that awesome "how is one guy doing that" feel.
Know Andy McKee (via Michael Hedges) but, wow, did Not know this masterpiece until today. Stunning. Marvelous. Trick. Jazzed. Beautiful. Wonderful. Priceless!
Had to revisit this lovely work of art and masterfully played tune. I dance, soooo with this, sooo much fun, makes you all happy inside. Totally Yummie to the core. Yep!!!!!!! Each note totally voiced to perfection, This I know. : -))))) The music is part of Andy McKee. UMMMMM A Fave'
I've listened to this tune countless times now; I really like what Andy's added to the original. Loads of extras, character and intonation. It's a really timeless piece, and this just gives it that extra boost (for lack of words). When I play it, I mix Don's and Andy's version now as I think they work really well together. Cheers
his talent isn't alone the thing, that make him very good. he have the feeling, the power and his GREAT talent. His Talent say more than endless words.
I am so ANGRY that the corporate radio bublegum we hear is jammed down our ears...It takes a friend to post a link for me to even see who this guy is. This guy is a truly TALENTED MUSICIAN. I honestly cant get enough of his music now.
it´s really interesting how both don ross´ and sungha jungh´s versions lack the enormous amount of control over dynamics, time, groove and articulation which andy totally is a master of. just great!
Well this is Don Ross' song so I'd argue it doesn't lack anything. While Andy's cover is definitely more articulate and dynamic than the original, I imagine that was his intention.
Watched this guy play at the Cactus Room in Austin. I was sitting 15 feet away, and I could still not believe my eyes. He never missed a note all evening. Simply incredible. I would love to see him and Monte Montgomery collaborate on something.
Just gotta watch andy's body movements to this song. He's really feeling the music. its great to watch him physically expressing himself in perfect step with his fantastic guitar playing. Funky tune, no doubt.
Agreed! All the percussive sounds he throws in make the song. I don't even know how he does it - I can play a lot of his songs but this one is just so daunting because I don't even know what's going on in it.
My body feels like responding every single note... The way you make it sound... the sounds variation to low/high (meaning soft or strong) when played... beggining in 3:05 ... is just how perfection sounds.
