Andy is one my most favorite players alive and one of the most genuine and nicest guys in the industry. That guitar is a beauty, I'm definitely interested in it!
Facts. There's a video floating around called "Andy Timmons hands me my ass with my own guitar", or something like that. It's Andy at a guitar clinic, playing someone else's Tele through a Boss Katana and he sounds tremendous.
The reason the tremolo is missing the two center mounting screws is because that particular model of tremolo (the Gotoh/Wilkinson VSVG) was originally designed to be a direct drop-in replacement for a vintage 6 mounting hole Fender tremolo. Vintage Fenders typically have a very curved 7 1/4” fingerboard radius (modern Fenders are around 9 1/2”-10”). If you adjust the bridge saddles to match, it’s not a problem with 6 mounting screws because the fingerboard is so curved. However, Ibanez guitars on the other hand typically have very flat fingerboards (usually 14”-16”). If you adjust the bridge saddles to match that radius, there’s a chance the D and G strings will be so low that they could come into contact with the heads of the two center mounting screws so Ibanez’s solution was to simply omit them.
Nice guitar. The tremolo system is not my thing, but I'm sure that this guitar sounds awesome. The playability will be great as usual for Ibanez guitars. This guitar looks great.
