The Williams Brothers deserved their own television show. They look so happy to be singing together it makes the viewer feel happy too! Their harmony is so tight and they have great stage presence. The camera especially loves Andy! Loved the song, the wardrobe and the choreography. Would love to see more videos of The Williams Brothers doing popular music of their era. Thank you Sacuya for posting this vintage video.
i like the way the lyrics bring to heart the notions of the film in a way that normally i couldn't descibe the music brings back a sense of nostalgia and without this song, i don't think my life would honestly be the same so thankyou dearly for this precious gift
Andy was just on 1510 the spa talking about his autobiography coming out. They said that his brothers wanted to leave the group so he went his own way. I would have guesssed that he would have just gone off on his own. with scuh a successful solo career. I am 41, and not a big Andy fan, though I like him. ---But I think this is just about the coolest video I've seen on YOutube. There is so much style, expression, class, nostalgia, and talent. They sound great !
I am not the one to try and spoil your enjoyment - what would we do without great music to listen to. They are very good singers - don't get me wrong. I didbn't know they were brothers until I read it here. That is a very musical family :)
Just totally awesome. Haven't listened to this in six years or so and it still totally rocks. I think the vocals still come through and are supported by the hot jazz sound. Though I wouldn't mind hearing their power on their own and I'll look for Kay Thompson era recording and others. This stuff is Impressive if you have even a little bit of an open mind.
I'm curious as to what TV show they were on when they did this. This is classic! There is very little video available of these guys before Andy got his own TV show.
See the black n white. The Williams Brothers are singing on a prime time family style variety show back in a day and time when family values on television meant something. That was their style and their fans would not have wanted an edge to their music or four grizzled Tex Ritter types doing harmony. Several people recorded this and had more radio airplay than the Tex Ritter version. His raw edge version was perfect for the movie and it won an Oscar. High Noon, is a top 10 movie.
I agree, but by the time Andy had his own show, the brothers had established themselves in other careers. They had had a hugely popular nightclub/cabaret act with Kay Thompson in the late '40s/early '50s, and they loved appearing on Andy's Christmas specials during the '60s. The only recordings I've found are their Christmas album from 1970, a Williams family album recorded around 1963, and a few recordings made with Kay Thompson around 1952, which are available on the "Think Pink!" cd set.
Please add "The Willams Brothers" to your tags on this video. I was looking for their music earlier but this never showed up in the SEARCH. I stumbled acorss this treasure and I'm so grateful to you for sharing it. I just want others to be able to find it with ease. Thanks again and Happy 2009!!
Hi Sacuya, thanks for posting this. I'd love to see/hear Andy singing The Exodus song (This land is mine). Do you have this or know where I might find it? Thanks. His voice is amazing, very distinctive and great range and I love the major theme songs he does.
Thank you for the compliment - I must say there is only ONE version that is talented and that is the version by Tex Ritter. The text does not fit a big band uptempo arrangement. The sparse instrumentation of Tex Ritter's version and his voice can carry it much more than this version.
Interesting that Andy and his brothers sing the song from "High Noon", but actually resemble Wyatt Earp and his brothers. Maybe a more appropriate song given their look would have been "The Gunfight at the OK Corral".
