Aneurysms are abnormal vascular dilations. There are three types of aneurysms, True Aneurysms, False Aneurysms and Dissecting Aneurysms.
There are many complications of Aneurysm formation such as rupture, dissection, thrombosis, embolism, infection, inflammation and pressure effects.
The Pathogenesis includes poor vessel quality, imbalance of matrix synthesis and degradation and loss of Smooth Muscle Media.
The etiologies include atherosclerosis, hypertension, syphilis, trauma, vasculitis, congenital defects and septoc microembolization of the vasa vasorum.
Investigations include ultrasound and CT scan plus MRI.
Treatment is open surgical repair.
Lastly we have described the two important aneurysms namely Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms and Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms.
