Andy Harper IS mainstream media. It's just that not all football media around the world is as shite as Scotland and down south. Because it is a minority game here, and as Harper and Ange have both said, you need to be a little obsessed with the game, our media are knowledgeable about the game. As opposed to rugby league and aussie rules media which is filled with meat heads just like UK football media. Back to your point though, content is second to none, 67 Hail Hail are top of the pops!

If the Celtic fans liked the interview with Andy Harper, get a hold of the book he co-authored with Australia’s most iconic footballer, Johnny Warren - Sheilas, Wogs and Poofters. It tells the history of Australian football through Johnny’s eyes and it will give you inside perspective on the fabric of people like Ange who came through the great clubs like South Melbourne Hellas. I kid you not, that is the title, if you played or loved football that’s what you were called in Australia.

When Ange was announced, I thought initially "Ange who?" as did most fans. Then, my mind turned. I'm not European, either. I'm just an American layman, who happens to love and know a little about football. Even I get prickly when a European assumes that I don't understand or appreciate the game... So, I thought, let's give him a chance. Then, I heard him discuss his philosophy and the way he wanted to play. Suddenly, I was more interested. Then, I listened to him speak to the media. I knew then, that he was the man. Ange has the gifts which all truly great leaders possess. From least important to most: A.) He knows his craft. B.) He's a gifted, effective communicator and does not struggle to make his vision clear. C.) He's ruthlessly competitive, but he understands that everything is a process which requires discipline from within to realize. Hail hail Hail Ange COYBIG

Do you see any parallels (or differences) between the career trajectories of Ange and Jesse Marsch?
@kentgrady9226
@kentgrady9226 2 года назад
@@kristansiri8942 On the parallel side: both come from countries which are not traditional footballing powers. They both know what it means to follow a sporting passion in a game which is unlikely to be front page news at home. Both had success in domestic leagues which operate under a salary cap - making sustained success difficult. MLS have had 11 champions in the last 13 years. No league in Europe has that level of parity. Both are well known and respected at home, but unknown values in Europe. Both had brief, unsuccessful first experiences in Europe. on the other hand: Ange is older and has more coaching/management experience. Ange has international experience - Marsch does not - at the senior level, at least. First blush, I would say that Ange is both more and less polished. Perhaps it comes with age, but Ange just strikes me as less compromising. I'm rooting for Jesse, as are most Americans who follow the game. We very much feel our time as a world footballing power is nigh.

@@kristansiri8942 A better American comparison to Ange is probably Bruce Arena - more specifically, Bruce Arena, if he had managed in Europe 14-16 years ago. Like Ange, Arena had domestic success. In fact, Arena has more victories and MLS cups than any other manager. Like Ange, Arena took the national team to new heights. In his case, it was a quarterfinal run in the WC. Like Ange, Arena is "the face of the game" in his own country and is now considered an elder statesman. Unlike Ange, Arena never sought, or got, the chance to manage on a larger stage. Unlike Ange, I personally find Arena deeply unlikable. For numerous reasons, I am a harsh detractor. Mine is a minority sentiment, RE Arena. And even I, despite my misgivings, must acknowledge that he knows football. In fact, he is the only American I know of to be enshrined in the American Halls of Fame of 2 sports - football/soccer and lacrosse. I'm nothing if not fair, even with those who rub me the wrong way.

@@danielhyde8041 I’ve commented this on 67 before now. Hamish reminds me of Michael Parkinson. Not a copy. But he has an ability to ask good questions, listen to answers without interrupting often, and his interviewees are relaxed and confident, they clearly either instinctively trust him, or trust him because of what they’ve heard about Hamish; that he won’t be trying to trip them up. Journos are often such cynics. Hamish also reminds me of an interviewer by named Andrew Denton in Australia. No carbon copy either. These folks just have an ability to make guests feel at home. And they ask questions that evince interesting answers. He also shows his guests, no matter who, genuine respect. You can tell impressed. His self deprecating humour and tendency to tease a little without malice is another endearing quality. You can tell I’m impressed by this young man. 👍

@@glennmaillard5972 some of Andy Harpers responses were long winded for the listener, but articulate and interesting it must be said. Andy Harper has been a long term quality commentator on football in Australia, one I like many others in Australia, have a very high regard for. He is insightful, honest and down to earth. Andy was a very successful striker in the NPL, the competition that preceded the A-League. Wikipedia suggests he scored 100 goals in 321 appearances. Because it was not full-time professional, teams trained most nights during the week and most players held normal jobs during the day. My understanding is that Andy studied and qualified to be a schoolteacher (which is maybe why, at times, some of his more enthusiastic match comments can sound like he has swallowed a dictionary), although I'm not sure if he actually worked as a teacher. Wiki also suggests he has done some postgraduate study to do with football. This all means that Andy’s writings and comments have the great value that he was a serious player and sees things through the eyes of someone who has actually been in the thick of things. Always worth listening to.

As an Oztralian following Ange but with a soft spot for Celtic anyway I love Andy highlighting Ange's ability to think outside of orthodoxy which I think only a few percent of the population are truly able to. That then leads to the conclusion that the sometimes maligned Celtic management must also be capable of it to take the plunge and choose Ange with his possible huge downside risk for them. Perhaps it's time Hamish for some kind of positive focus on them...

An eloquent and informative insight into Ange. I can see what Ange saw in him in bringing him on board into his life. Andy Harper to me is a very articulate and insightful individual who has done Ange proud. Good on him.

Excellent discussion, Andy Harper very smart guy, Hamish equally as smart in your appreciation of what’s being said, Ange is a top man and had that feeling from day one. Great interview! Great insight.

Aussie Celtic fan here, great interview with Andy. I can vouch ( as can most Aussie football fans ) for everything Andy said about Ange. He has been a success everywhere he’s been, and is here at our Celtic. A great decision by the Board to hire him. Hail Hail ☘️

Not everyone was like who?? And after even the first few views of his achievements his philosophy and his goals of what celtic can be again after a nightmare season he has said and done everything from day one what I don't like is the idea that celtic didn't want him or didn't understand how good he is?? WE do... WE DID.. WE ARE THE CLUB WHO SAID YES ANGE YOU ARE THE ONE... THE ones who believed in him to deliver everything he thinks about as a football club. Celtic are born as a world winning team of attacking football we are world famous for our type of football and it just so happens anges type of style suits us too. He to me personally is our new jock stein now I don't say this easy but to me his mindset and work ethic surpasses Rogers and he did OK I hope ange knows he has a family here and a place where he can make a legacy for many many years to come we appreciate him we understand who he was where he struggled and where he wants to go we are a giant of football with yeah not the same money as the English who does that doesn't make them great!!! Doing what he wants to do with celtic in Europe that will make him greater than any other in this modern age and he can do all that and more he gets us we get him we are up against it every day its a constant battle to prove ourselves he was born to be here bless you ange go get it all we are here with you all the way !!! HH

Now someone who understands what Ange is after. He won't not go anywhere until he has achieved the unachievable and that is European glory. He might not win it but guaranteed he will give it is all to try.

Hamish Bhoy! Fabulous interview. What an insight us Celtic fans got with the articulated Andy Harper. When Celtic went for Ange, last Northern Hemisphere summer, I really thought it'd be positive step. It was a brave move by Celtic but we needed a change and we've certainly got that. The era of Ange keeps getting better and better. Hail, Hail 🍀

Hamish - this interview with Andy Harper was absolutely captivating and informative. I'm an Aussie and delighted to see Ange doing so well at Celtic (I'm now a Celtic fan!). I suggest you give the Celtic FC board members each a copy of this interview and tell them to watch it. They will get a true insight into the mind of Ange and hopefully make all the right decisions to make Celtic a world-class football club. Enjoy the ride!

This was a brilliant interview Hamish the best I've watched on the channel thus far. Andy knows Ange inside out and he spoke very intelligently about the man as Ange does himself in his role as the Celtic manager. I've said on a number of occasions this season that if we win the treble that it would be a minor miracle from what he inherited when he took the job. The club was at a low ebb and the Eddie Howe debacle hadn't even calmed down and most of us were wondering who's Ange Postecoglou? I admitted that I thought he could be our Pedro appointment but I was totally and unequivocally wrong and once I did my homework on the man and saw how he conducted himself and the way he spoke and subsequently the brand of football he's brought to the club has made me eat humble pie. Now listening to a man who knows what makes Ange tick and the respect he has for him is incredible and we're blessed to have him at our club. Not only is Ange a special manager but more importantly he's a special human being, he's got an aura about him that not many people have, when he speaks you listen but not only that you hang on his every word. I thought when Andy said that Ange is "acutely intelligent" you couldn't describe the man any better, I think he's going to bring a lot of success to our club if he's given the backing. As inept as our board are at times they're the only obstacle that lies between us having real European success or the manager walking away because they won't match his ambition. In Ange we trust let's hope the board trust him as much as we do HH
