Dave Angel had this out as a bootleg/pirate release, then Eurythmics, themselves, got a hold of a copy, loved it! and released it officially! (handled with maturity & respect, from one artist to another! much props to everyone that keeps thier ears open for good music!)
Dave Angel, his musical career started when he borrowed an old electronic keyboard from a friend and, using a double tape deck, assembled a bassline and drum track, over which he laid "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by Eurythmics. He called the result his Nightmare mix and borrowed money from a friend to press 500 copies. When BMG, and thus the Eurythmics, learnt of this, Annie Lennox wanted to prevent the sale of what was in effect an unlicensed version of their song; however, her partner Dave Stewart liked the mix, and persuaded her to allow Angel to go ahead. The track, involving elements of jazz, Detroit techno, and breakbeat hardcore, was successful, reaching number 23 in the UK Singles Chart.
The track had humble beginnings indeed and yet it is and was just a sublime, dark thing. I still have the promo 12” before it was properly released. I heard Angel talking about the remix in the early 90s (he was a guest on a NYC broadcast) and that Stewart really enjoyed it - loved the Eurythmics anyhow but that little tidbit made me very happy!
I was in waterloo in Austin when i stumbled across this eurythmics 12 inch many years ago i never heard before and was like fk it ill give it a listen. I put it on and instantly everyone in the store was staring at me. They all realized the same thing I did. I just stumbled upon one of the best remixes ever made. Might be the best $10 I ever spent. That bassline with that 808 state sax...amazing.
Love how this completely encompasses the complete hardcore rave sound of every decent track in 1991, a whole cunting year aerly! DAVE + DAVE = 42. YES!
I played this in my car few months back & my 16yo asked if this was a new remix.... I have played it shitloads but it's now registering mums got a record collection he badly desires..... 😚 1987-1994 Generation Rave
Used to hear this at The Kitchen Club in South Beach in the late 80's. Still have the mix tape the DJ would make for $5 with this in it. Look up Tainted Cash, mixes great with this.

My all-time favorite Industrial Jam... I can remember going to the Clubs on Miami Beach and hoping they would play it. Got a lot of play time for many years. Takes me back...
This was one of the first tracks that really put me on . This and don't hold back the feeling. First time I saw flyers ashwell, above the decks on bedroom wall.......AFTER THAT ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.love you all stay safe.
Never knew anyone else who had this - or was even into it. Loved that 'haunting' sound - but was jus learning to mix back then, +found this well tricky? Couldnt just slip it in anywhere, was always a challenge! Worth it tho, still does it for me :-D My mates didn't seem so into it? They were more rigid about genres tho'. Used to make a point of pouring all kinda sounds into their narrow minds. Sundays were great, they were messy +couldnt escape me lol. . . Thems were the days ;-)
