They are not called cane begonias “because they grow on a cane.” They are called canes begonias because the stems of the begonias swell like joints of bamboo giving it a cane like appearance.
Muhammad Suleman from what I know, the begonia maculata has the deep red colour on the back whereas the angel wing doesn’t. I know my maculata has white flowers but my angel wing has pink ones. That’s all I know :)
Mine have red on the back so what is the actual name of them? I got it three days ago and it was almost gone at lowes so I saved it. It perked back up but now the ends of the leaves are crunchy.
Beautiful plant wold love to order this, thank you for the information it was a must bc. I just got an angel wing Begonia. I did exactly what you recommended. Looking forward to see it bloom soon. Don't know the color but it has a tint to the leaves, so I'm guessing it is pink.
Julie, great videos and care information. I have an Angel Wing as well and it looks pitiful. Very gangly and tall with burnt leaves. It is outside under shade of tree. I know I must prune back significantly. What else can I do to make healthy?
I noticed when you zoomed in the leaves that the silver dots have a tiny little darker dot in the middle of them. I have a baby maculata that is just now developing those small specs within the silver dots, do you know why that happens? thank you for the great content!!
I bought two angel wing begonias from a local grocery store . They were in glass pots with no drainage holes. I love the pots but wondering if they really should be transplanted into a more suitable pot or maybe we could drill holes in the existing pots?
I love your channel and after seeing you beauty I placed an order for my begonia “whimsy” from Logees. I came today in great shape and I named her JuJu :). I looked up your tutorial so I am sure to place JuJu in the right light and water her correctly. Thanks Julie!
Thanks for this video and all the tips and recommendations, I have one of these seems to be doing well, they do love the humidity but as you said, do not overwater this one. I mist mine twice a day. I have mine in regular quality indoor potting mix with extra perlite to promote drainage. Where to prune? Mine is getting tall and I’d like it to grow outward if I can get it to do that. Should I cut the stem right above a leaf or below it? I have mine staked as well. Thanks
My plant has 3 main stems. Each is its own entity. The problem is that they are sort of getting in each other's way with their leaves blocking the others. I am very new to this hobby and very much in love with it. I have no idea how to prune this most beautiful begonias. Help!
I have one of these plants and it’s been dropping it’s leaves. The leaves seem to be completely healthy, with no sign of disease or browning or anything. It’s dropping older leaves and the younger smaller leaves as well. I don’t know why it’s dropping all of its leaves but if anyone could help me out with what could be wrong I would really appreciate it!
How do you get it to produce flowers? I live in a West state close to the ocean, so a lot of moisture in the air. It is several years old and have died off almost completely in a couple years but comes back in the spring. Now it is absolutely huge and beautiful but how do I make it produce flowers?
I live in western Scotland and have a cool and damp climate, humidity is nearly always above 80% here. It seems like ferns do well here due to low intensity light and dampness of this area.
I have two angel wings begonias I like to know what it looks like when it needs to be repotted I have a vision problem so I can’t see the roots is there another way that I can tell that it needs to be reported. I’ve had the plants five months
I feel so fortunate to have come across this and your other Begonia videos. I just received my 2nd angel-wing from Logee's, 'Pinafore', and I'd really like to get the 'My Special Angel' one, too! My 1st one, 'Wightii' is still growing/looking good & I love 'Pinafore' because it's a smaller plant with more reddish tones. Her spots are smaller and fainter, as well. The ever-present humidity of Charlotte is finally doing some good! Yay! Thanks again, Julie, for all of your advice, help, ideas & tips on our beloved houseplants! You're the best! Take care. 🌾💜
FYI, Julie! Can you believe that I now have 33 hoya plants? You truly created a monster when you told me about Logee's & Gardino's! I've been able to get quite a few of them on EBay! Expensive; but, yolo! 🌾💜
hahaha hoyas are the best! Also, Gardino is such a great place to find the more rare ones. I'm glad you have been having a good experience ordering from them as well!
Help Please~ I just planted new rooted starts into soil. I just noticed a fine layer of mold on some of the soil near the cane, and at the base of the cane. How do I treat the mold without hurting the plant?
Quick question. If I have a pot that has a dish for drainage of water attached to the bottom of my pot would putting water with stones under that serve the same purpose as described in your video for humidity purposes?
Very informative, I loved the video! I had a question: I received a cutting of this plant and it rooted just fine and even started to sprout new leaves, but I’ve noticed that there are two “tears” in the leaves but I see no bugs. Any idea what this could be?
its my 4th video and every person gives different tips on watering. From not letting dry at all to keeping ot moist all the time... Im completely lost😢
I have a tiny begonia and one of the stalks started bending over and wouldn’t perk up, I think he just needs support but I was worried about him I’m glad it is normal for them
I'm losing my mind all my leave from my angel wing magognia McDonald fall off and and I don't know what To do they were healthy Leaves I go to sleep and I wake up on all The leaves just falling off 1 by 1 I do not have it in a pebbles full of water but I have a lot of water around my plants so I know they are getting a lot of humidity but I just don't know what else to do
Hi..Thank for sharing! I have this begonia for 2 weeks, I keep it inside room, not far from window. Since 2 days ago, everyday I see he/she drop the leaves (1 or two pcs per day) and it is fresh leaf drop. Whats wrong?
Lovely video! Can you please do an update on your all begonias. Currently i have 4 rex begonia but i have ordered 7 more including 3 cane begonias which i don't have any experince with them.
Hi. I received an Angel Wing Begonia plant when my father passed this year. It is a cane plant and it looks like there are several stalks in the pot. Can I separate the stalks and transplant into another pot?
I'm sorry to hear about your father. As for the begonia I believe you could separate the canes. I would try to maintain as many roots on each cane as possible. I have never tried this myself, but I think it could be done.
I have a cane/angel type begonia coming via mail relatively soon, from logees actually. My question is, will this plant "pup" at all? I have very little begonia experience, but in the description on the web page it states the one i'm getting is vigorous and can easily reach 5' in a 10" pot....but would i have like one 5' stick, or numerous canes from a "mother" cane, so to speak. The variety i ordered is jims cotton candy
Hey Matthew, so begonias will grow brand new canes from the soil sometimes. You can create new branches on your begonia by pruning it, and it will give it a more bushy appearance. However if you leave the canes alone they will just continue to grow straight up and can appear leggy if you don't prune them back
I can tell you this plant is very hardy I live in zone 8 we had a hard freeze into the 20ties thought it was dead as it was outside..it has now produced 3 New leaves and will keep growing into a beautiful plant as it was..Begonias rock..never give up on them🌷🌷
My begonia was in a huge pot when I bought it, so I downsized it,,, 》》》》 dropped over. So I put back in a little bigger pot and I used a terracotta pot. I hope my plant survives. ☹🤞🤞🤞🤞
@@julienicole92 hello and thanks. It is doing better. It also had a new growth now and I am thankful that it is surviving. Thanks for checking up on my Angel Wing Begonia. 🌱🌿🍂
