Only one who does not sing every day can say ugly words about a singer like Angela, if you don't know what singing is about don't comment. The voice is a living energy, from the body of the singer, the body, mind and every day life influences the performance of each day...
Take a little time to think about this wonderful performance, just for a moment ... It's from an opera about a JAPANESE prince, married to an AMERICAN, written in ITALIAN, performed by a ROMANIAN while in BRITAIN, and here I am, in AUSTRALIA listening to it ... WOW
I am Singaporean living in Indonesia listening to a recording taken in Britain of an opera singer who is a Romanian, singing about a Japanese princess who married an American , in an Italian opera.
Superbă, sublimă, made in Romania! Brrrraaaaavvvooooo! Nu sutem deloc lăsați in pace!
I 've got tremendously lucky and heard her singing LIVE this aria last night! Beautiful is very weak word to describe her singing. During "Un bel di vedremo" I was crying like a baby.
Admirable as always! I found this interpretation slightly less satisfying than other ones I've heard with Gheorghiu, because some notes and excerpts of the aria were sung here with too much "chest resonation", forcing a bit in the low notes... In other occasions the vocal performance was smoother, more delicate. That said, the phrasing is attentive, expressive and creative, and that is where artistry lies mainly. And, of course, the timbre is extremely pure and beautiful, full of chiaroscuro.
There is a guy in the orchestra at about 0:55 who is totally verklempt. Don't blame him for swooning one bit. The best fiction writer or movie producer could not create a fictional character who more perfectly fits the term "diva" in the best sense of the term.
