As Andy Schnell and other angels have explained, this song is more than appropriate considering who was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize this year and where the laureate is currently located and why. This video is an excerpt from the official Nobel Peace Prize Concert 2023. Since redesigning the concert after the COVID-related break, the Nobel Committee has been trying to find artists who have connections to both Norway (as host country) and the laureate's country (this year Iran). This is the 2023 line up: #1 is Amanda Delara Nikman (born 1997 in Sweden), a Norwegian pop / R&B artist. Her parents emmigrated from Iran to Sweden and moved to Lillehammer, Norway when Delara was 1yo. Delara released her debut singe “Paper Paper” at the age of 19. In November 2018, she released the EP Running Deep and was nominated for the prestigious Spellemannprisen 2018 (Norwegian equivalent of the Grammys) in the category pop artist of the year for the EP and the single "Soldiers". Delara's lyrics often deal with political and social topics. Her debut single Paper Paper was about class differences, New Generation was about her mother's war experiences. The song We Don't Run From Anyone was inspired by Saudi women who were driving before they were allowed to. #2 is Angelina Jordan Astar (born 2006 in Oslo, Norway), a Norwegian multi genre singer with deep roots in Jazz. She broke through in 2014 on the TV show “Norske talenter” where she sang cover versions of various classic jazz songs at the age of 8. Since then she has worked to raise money on behalf of environmental causes and children's charities around the world. Angelina Jordan has released multiple digital singles, two EPs (most recent: “Old Enough” in 2023), and one album called “It's Magic”. Angelina Jordan was born in Oslo, Norway, and has lived for extended periods both there and in Los Angeles. She also lived for a time in the Middle East. Her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar, is the daughter of Iranian painter and poet Mery Zamani and a Japanese father. #3 is Mahsa Vahdat (born 1973 in Tehran, Iran), a singer and musician with a bachelor's degree from the Art University in Tehran. She has toured and performed in the West since 1995. Mahsa Vahdat's music style is contemporary expression inspired by old traditional and folk and regional music of Persia/Iran. In her music she also developed dialogue between other cultures in a high artistic quality and she got a huge response internationally. As women are not allowed to sing in public as a solo singer after 1979 Islamic Revolution, most of Mahsa Vahdat's albums were recorded outside Iran where she enjoys great fame with the Iranian diaspora and in world music circles. To get her work published, she works among others with Kirkelig Kulturverksted, a Norwegian record label. Mahsa also had the honor of performing at the official 2023 Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony. #4 is chosen to represent Norway as host country to the Nobel peace prize through a typical Norwegian piece. This year it is performed by Tine Thing Helseth, a Norwegian trumpeter from Oslo. She started playing the trumpet at the age of seven, and is considered today as one of the leading trumpet players of her generation. Tine won second prize at the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition and just a year later, at the age of 20, her debut album earned her the 2007 Spellemannprisen as Newcomer of the Year. As #5 the renowned Norwegian radio symphony orchestra KORK plays “Knell”, an orchestral piece composed by Niloufar Nourbakhsh in 2018. Niloufar is a composer known for her contemporary classical compositions for piano, orchestra, chamber groups, voice, electronics, and mixed media. She was born in Iran and began her musical studies at the piano at the Sarang Institute of Music in Karaj, Iran. She won the 2nd prize of Iran's national piano biennale competition at the age of fifteen. Niloufar then left Iran for studying piano and composing abroad, first at the University of Oxford, England. She then moved to the US to get her bachelor's degree, receiving a B.A. from Goucher College, Maryland in 2014 and is now a doctoral student in composing at New York’s State University at Stony Brook. Niloufar is co-founder of the Iranian Female Composers Association.

Narges Mohammadi, the Nobel laureate was imprisoned one day nine years ago. Her son said it started as an ordinary day. But his mother didn’t come home in the afternoon like she used to because Iranian authorities has imprisoned her. Her son and daughter haven’t seen their mother for nine years, and she hasn’t seen her children. Or her husband for those same nine years. I think Angelina chose this song with their love for each other in her mind.

BPD, this is the perfect song for this tribute to the Nobel Peace Prize winner. Her name is Narges Mohammadi, and she is a woman imprisoned in Iran for speaking out for women's rights. The song "Unchained Melody" is the theme song from the 1955 movie "Unchained" which is a movie about prisons, so it makes perfect sense. Angelina does this with such beauty and understated elegance, I couldn't help but cry. She has performed this song at many ages, but this one is for the ages.

Recipient t of this prize has been imprisoned for a long time. Angelina always does things for a reason I believe she chose this song for the children who accepted the prize for their mother . They are in exile and haven't seen her for a long time. Song is very appropriate for them.

The two children, 17 years old twin-siblings, of Narges Mohammadi (arrested for the second time some 8 years ago) read their mothers speach and written answers to journalists qestions. The daughter also stated that as she was a bit pessimistic, she did not expect to ever see her mother again. Her brother had still hope though. They both new their mother was fighting for a better reality in their country, with fridom and democrathy for all. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8LAMPz57Aqw.html - link for the full event on desember 11th.

The lady was put to jail by the mullas, simply because she asked for women to be treated equal to men and education for all. What a horrendous thing to ask. She was honore with the peace prize and her children came to receive it.

I thought "Unchained Melody" was a odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later. Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. Angelina is the FIRST musical artist to perform a second time at a Nobel Peace Prize event. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

Andy, I also felt that Unchained Melody was out of place until I did the research and found that: Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist who received the prestigious award, and remains incarcerated today in Iran, and that made Unchained Melody very appropriate. (Something you might find interesting; RU-vid keep removing my statement until I changed prison to incarcerated.)

I thought is was a odd choice for a song until I understood what the tribute was for then it all made perfect sense. Angelia always chooses her songs very carefully and this was perfect. A song about a person in prison missing her family waiting for their release to be reunited. The Iranian lady this tribute is for is in prison for standing up for womens rights in Iran so the song is very fitting for the occasian. Angelina toned the song down so it wasnt all about her she wanted to honor Narges the woman in prison. Angelina looked like an angel might I add. Great reaction PaPa D

Hi BPD 👋Angelina sings this tribute to Nargens Mohomadis because she is an Iranian women's rights activist and has been in prison for a long time because she stands up for the rights and freedom of Iranian women!! The song choice is actually very fitting for the occasion. The Nobel Peace prize winner Narge Mohammadi, from Iran (like Angelina's grandmother) was imprisoned because of her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight for human rights and freedom for all. She has been in and out of jail the last two decades and she has been imprisoned 13 times and sentenced 5 times. In total, she has been sentenced to 31 years in prison and 154 lashes. She is imprisoned in Iran's most notorious prison. She is married to a journalist and has two children. The twins have not seen their mother since leaving Iran to live in exile in France in 2015, and have not been able to speak to her for around 2 years. Her twins, aged 17, received the peace prize on behalf of their mother. The song "Unchained Melody" is from the film "Unchained", and is about a prison. The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or finishing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. Zaret who wrote the lyrics to the song, focused the lyrics on the prisoner who pines for his love he has not seen in a "long, lonely time». In the movie he sang this song on his prison-bed. It was a declaration of undying, everlasting love where two people are separated preventing them to be together…. just like The Peace Prize winner and her family. The song is very fitting and Angelina always has a thought behind everything she does.

Some ask why Angelina Jordan would pick Unchained Melody for this event, Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist who received the prestigious award remains incarcerated today in Iran. One of the most popular and enduring love songs of all time, Unchained Melody, has a surprising origin. It was composed for a 1955 film called Unchained, which tells the story of a man who is incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. He yearns to be free and reunite with his wife and children, who are waiting for him outside. The song captures his emotions of loneliness, hope and longing, and has been covered by many artists over the years.

We all know Bobby Hadfield's 'Gold Standard ' for the song, and Angelina has covered it a few times in the past, including on stage at her concert in New Hampshire earlier this year. In all those performances she stays pretty much 'spot on' with Bobby's arrangement and delivered what I felt was 2nd only to Bobby's rendition. But here, she does an arrangement that goes deep into a jazz mode with more emotion laden penetration than anyone's recording of the song can match. It is the perfect tribute for the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize who is a remarkable woman. If Bobby listened to it in the 'far beyond', I'm sure he would have tears in his eyes as I did.

Unchained Melody Nobel Peace Prize 2023 (the charity work of Angelina Jordan is only one of the many things that makes her so special.) Angelina Jordan's historical journey is captivating, as she showcases her talent at the age of17 with a voice that transcends time and space, Angelina Jordan mesmerized the world with her rendition of "Unchained Melody" at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in 2023. Accompanied by the KORK orchestra, the 17-year-old singer paid tribute to Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist who received the prestigious award, and remains incarcerated today in Iran. Angelina Jordan's performance was a testament to her artistic maturity and versatility, as well as a promise of more musical wonders to come. © Larry D. Pifer

After considerable thought, I came to the conclusion that this song is totally fitting for this event. The livestream that this performance was recorded from also included an interview with Narges Mohammadi’s twin children (a son and daughter) who are both seventeen. They had indicated in the interview that they haven’t seen their mother since they were both nine years old. Given that context, if you consider the lyrics of the song as it relates to Narges and her longing to see her children again one day, I think the song works. Nice reaction Papa D. Thank you for a great reaction. Interesting choice? Agree. AJ’s choice of melody was not accidential, I don’t think so! Wikipedia: Unchained Melody is a song written by Alex North (music) and Hy Zaret (lyrics), and it was first released in 1955 as the soundtrack and theme song for the film Unchained, hence the name. The film is about an inmate in a prison who is in the dilemma of whether he should escape or serve out his sentence so that he can be reunited with his loved one. And…her grandma is an iranien woman!

SheShe picks. Songs because of the emotion that she sees in the lyrics She can sing any genre, any style ,any range, anybody. She only sings songs that have depth ,meaning and serve a purpose.Unless she's just playing around on Tik Tok .Even then she can bring a good Adele song up a notch or two in a few seconds on Tik Tok.Ivthink she has the greatest ability to bring emotion into any version, cover,or original in this generation She is the best female vocalist around. Those famiuse artists from the past taught Angelina.Shes just that good in my opinion

I think when your talking about contained... Yes I think she sang in a way that allowed the orchestra to shine as brightly as her. And if you think about it, an large orchestrated peace like that is doesn't really give much room for free styling other then changing things up within the alotted time slots. But, yes she sang it as part of the whole group, and she didn't put herself above her band mates. *although I do look forward to the day she says the hell with it and shows off. lol*

Most of the time Angelina gets it her way, and she gets what she wants. What she wants is to sing, to perform. Other than that I don`t think she craves a lot. She knows this orcestra very well, and they know her. I`m sure they fully collaborated to get this performance the way they wanted, and found the way it should be to fit the occation. The respect Angelina always have towards the originals of songs is well known, and loved. I guess Angelina also has THIS way to "show off". Then, as it comes to her originals, she clearly has found her place to really release the music she carries in her heart and soul. That is for sure something to love and admire as well.
