Wow, James Thiel says below that Toby told him “Bad Valentine” was one of the eight songs he had recorded with her last year! Now I’m even more curious about what went down. Maybe they saw it was so good that it needed to be saved for later?

I would assume that it would be under Republic. If the songs they were recording were meant to be part of an EP/album the rights probably belong to UMG/Republic..

We had all wondered how a studio version of Bad Valentine would sound but as it turns out it seems that it’s been completed for almost 1-1/2 years. Many have commented about the subject/lyrics of the song. How now that she’s older the perspective has changed and unlike Now I’m the Fool, she is the bad valentine. But it turns out the songs are basically from the same time.

@@BigAngieFan808 If not Written by BOTH of them, Why would Toby introduce BV by stating "Angelina and I, we are working on new material, and there's one song we're going to release in a few months...". I guess it is possible that they did not write it, but given the language, one would typically expect that Toby was insinuating that BV was a product of both of them, Right ? 😇Jim

I am no psychologist, but one thing that I gather from looking at all of the little snippets of her life on TikTok etc. (alone or with various family members), is that she usually seems happy, and not like someone worried or stressed about her career. I know that that may be just a presumption on my part. However, my greatest wish for her is that she finds joy and fulfillment in whatever she does, wherever her path takes her. I, like all her angels, would be ecstatic if she blossoms onto the world stage. Unfortunately, sheer genius-level talent and an intricately, heart-meltingly beautiful voice, both of which flow majestically from her every atom, don't seem to be the criteria used to determine the success of an artist or their output. One only has to compare the rubbish that regularly flies high on the major charts with the beautiful, brilliant work that Angelina puts out to see this bewildering paradox. E.g., every song on "Old Enough" was number one quality. So whatever happens next, I pray that everything turns out exactly the way that Angelina wants.

I find it upsetting to see a few "fans" in Angelina's fan group criticize Toby based on idle speculation alone.It's obvious that he and AJ have a mutual respect,both are emotional and they would never have written so much music together otherwise.Angelina's family are very protective and the fact that Toby is back working with her speaks clearly to the relationship.Let's just pour out the positive energy that their synergistic genius finds a way through the industrie's lack of support.Thanks Chris for always searching for answers while being supportive also.

I saw an interview where they quoted Micheal,That Angelina wants it now but the family wants it slower. I know for me,selfishly I want it slower because what superstar can you get tickets for easily up close to the stage. For me she's the best thats ever been so I want to continue seeing her in concert before thousands of screaming fans take over! Thank you.

One scenario I see playing out is that AJ’s album breaks out huge in much the same way Adele’s “21” did. There was the monster hit “Rolling in the Deep” which introduced me to her. Similar in feel to “Bad Valentine” with the r&b-ish feel and huge belts. and when I first heard it I thought she was black! “Bad Valentine” is like an even better version of that, so could be the first big hit getting everyone excited about the “new” singer, just like with Adele. Then the second biggest hit was the tearjerking ballad “Someone Like You,” which made me and many others cry. And we all know that Angelina can definitely outdo Adele in that department, so she could have a monumental ballad co-written and produced by Toby. With that one-two punch of blistering power and soulful emotion as the two anchoring hits, the sky’s the limit!

At the Vibrato, I asked Toby if he was planning on doing more with Angelina, a show with just him and her at the Vibrato, perhaps? And he said, that’s a possibility, but he would like to have a larger venue. He went to say that Republic isn’t actively promoting her. I asked why not? He shrugged his shoulders, and replied, “Maybe they have too many artists?” He also said that the original plan was for Angelina to be at the Vibrato, but “she was stuck in Norway”. I think the reason she was stuck in Norway was the passing of her Great GrandMother. Anyway, Toby appeared to be very interesting in helping to promote Angelina. We shall see.

I absolutely love Toby Gad, the Dude is beyond awesome, Angelina Jordan and Tody Gad make a fabulous musical duo, they did an extraordinary job on if I were a boy and a beyond mind blowing job on bad valintine, I hope and pray things work out for great success for the both of them separately and as a team, in surfing, the surfer keeps trying to catch the perfect wave, sometimes they miss waves and sometimes they caught waves, but catching the perfect wave is rare, but when they do, they ride it as long as they can, enjoying the moment for as long as possible, so just keep at it, making beyond beautiful music with passion and love and let the fates bring you the perfect wave that you are waiting for, I smile brightly 🌞

Please don't look at negative people. Toby did a lot of promotions for her last release, 4 life and 3 Studio videos. It really happened and he showed how excited he is with her. Hope we will see all 8 songs in the future ❤ she's always amazing 😍 we all know. At her Norwegian TV interview she said she will start in Norway in the fall and a lot of concerts will follow. That's the plan for the future 🙏 and Toby is an independent producer 😎🪄

I keep one thing in mind and Toby might not realize, Michael ant the rest of the family aren't ready for Angelina to go on the Super Star Status. Think about it, to be eligible for Grammys, song must be out by end of August, they are releasing in September. I predict 2025 will be the year, us Angels need to stay Positive and Patient for Our favorite Singing Barefoot Angel. Hi Chris my friend 👋 Most people have no idea about Toby's human side! I knew him from before in Germany! I followed his music 🎶 for a few years! And I can say one thing with 💯% certainty: Toby is anything but a "misogynist". He has been happily married to his wife Li since 2005, so for almost 20 years, and now lives on his farm in Los Angeles!! and he gets on really well with his two daughters. The older daughter also plays instruments and sings 😲 too! And is about Angelina's age or a bit younger! The second daughter is even younger! Toby doesn't reveal anything more about his family life! A very clever move on his part! Remember the saying: everything that is known about you can be used against you! That's why I don't tell you everything about my music 🎶🎸🎹🎺 and singer 😲 experiences in my life!! Toby was a juror in the 2022 season of DSDS "Deutschland 🇩🇪 sucht den Superstar" with Florian Silbereisen and Ilse Lang as a replacement for Dieter Bohlen at the jury desk! He was always honest 👍 diplomatic 👌 to all the singing 😲 candidates and very loyal! and human 🙏! So anything but a "misogynist" Angelina and Toby are a musical 🎶 dream 😊 songwriter📝 team; magical 💫 music is created as a result! We've already experienced a taste with "If I were a Boy" and with the powerful 💥 sassy song "Bad Valentine"! And it will continue like this 👍👌! What I also didn't know is that Toby wrote songs 📝 with Angelina last February, but they didn't make it onto the EP in the summer 🤷‍♂️! I think there will be an LP with 16-18 new original songs on it, which Angelina will choose from the 💯 songs that AJ has already written 📝 together with Toby! I have a really good feeling about how Gad is going to help Angelina's career. I say that because he knows how to write monster hit songs, and beyond that I think his particular style of writing and producing fits Angelina perfectly. Gad's melodies are more simple than the other song-writers Angelina has worked with, and that is good for appealing to a broad public. And he writes the sort of slow ballads that Angelina is best at. I think with Gad Angelina has finally found the right partner to help her become a superstar.

I agree with this. Angelina and Toby have a magic for collaborative music-making that has the feel of popular success, a lane that Toby knows well. Many reactors to both of the new songs have immediately said something along the lines of "This is the breakout song!"

Regarding people Angelina has worked with, we don’t know if the melodies are from the cowriters, Angelina or both. Having admitted she has written over 100 songs and having written songs since she was a little girl, you have to assume that these songs all don’t have cowriters, at least not from the start and she must already have a melody in mind. In her 10 Years In the Making video said that she reads through her journals while she is at the piano so that seems to be her writing process.From what Ive read it seems like when she wants to record a song she’ll meet with others to help her finalize the song. A lot of her cowriters are the producers so they probably work together to flesh out the song.

It may vary from song to song. Some may be basically complete but may need some fine tuning, others may be outlines that need more refinements or structure. There’s no way of knowing for sure unless we hear directly from Angelina.

Chris, Mahalo for keeping us updated. On one of Toby's IG posts, I thanked him for the work he has done promoting Angelina. I then asked that he would produce Princess of Ruins, giving a short synopsis of the background story. Toby replied that he would ask Angelina about it. You said that it seems that it should be easier for her to break out, but she hasn't yet. Has she tried to "break out"? The Toby connection is a start, but that's mostly because of HIS promotion. You can't break out if you're not trying to break out. Maybe the elusive album will be the true start. We just dont know what Angelina wants. Here's to hoping we hear those 8 songs and many more very soon. The "waitening" is difficult.

I think breaking out is more difficult these days, particularly because of the way music is consumed now. It may be a lot easier to release music because of the digital age but that only makes the competition so much tougher. I’ve read that over new 100,000 songs are released per day! It would be impossible for all that music to be heard. Who knows how many great songs or great new artists are included in those 100,000 songs that will never see the light of day because they just get lost in the enormous amount of content out there. Gone are the days of a DJ finding a new song they like and promoting it themselves and getting the ball rolling. Radio is just not that influential or important anymore. It’s more a reflection of what people want to hear or what they think people want to hear. A new artist needs promotion and exposure and even then there are no guarantees.

I can see that Angelina keep her journey somewhat hidden from fans. That is what she does. I've been a fan long enough to know that everything we see and everything we know, is exactly as much as needed. She is so good, that no matter what she does, she will at one point eventually reach her goal. And it seems like no one in her team or family is in a hurry. Those 7 or 8 new original songs must be a part of something bigger. Who knows? Being a fan, also includes some speculation. When it's time for it, we will know and get the story behind this. Maybe in September?

Hi Chris! I think the songs that Toby and Angelina worked on for her EP that didn't make it will definitely show up in the near future. As many of us have noticed, the songs on Old Enough are in a way linked and tell a story as a whole. My personal guess is that the songs they worked on didn't exactly fit. Since we know an EP can have from 6 to 8 songs, the powers that be decided to not use Toby's songs. I think either they will be included on a full album or they could even release another EP with these 8 songs. James Thiel has actually sent a message to Toby about the article and is hoping for response. He said Toby usually answers him. I even got him to ask IF Bad Valentine was one of the 8 songs or not. Now, we'll just wait and see.....

From what Angelina said after its release, she picked the songs for the EP. Now if it was totally her decision we don’t know. From what we’ve heard her contract with Republic is supposed to give her creative control. Exactly what that means, again we don’t know

An interesting question is: Why did Angelina decide to make her collaboration with Toby public in May 2024? Since it now seems they have been working together for at least 1 1/2 years. At least from the most recent interview, it had appeared they have recently been writing music together - but perhaps that is referring back to the 8-song period. In which case the collaboration announcement was mainly about: IIWAB, and the release of Bad Valentine?

Two things come to mind: 1- Toby said he was depressed for not having any of his songs on the EP, so that probably created a "not so warm" situation with R&R. 2- The Old Enough EP probably didn't do as well as hoped, so maybe R&R decided to give Toby chance to turn things around for AJ. Pure speculation on my part of course.

Now you’ve got to wonder how many other songs may have been recorded for the album(with other producers) that didn’t make the cut when it was decided to release an EP instead of an album. Angelina said that she selected the songs for the EP so could it have been her that decided to not include Bad Valentine at this time? Maybe Our Time was a song originally recorded for the album. When it wasn’t used, then it was used for the SoFi commercial. Now how that deal came about is another thing we don’t know.

Thanks Chris. What I think most of us find most interesting and surprising is how long ago Angelina and Toby started working together. I saw interviews with Toby from November last year and February this year about his Piano Diaries project. He mentioned artists that he was working with on the album. No mention of Angelina. Not sure, but I think he hadn’t yet found someone for If I Were a Boy. Maybe he hadn’t yet gotten permissions from Republic for her to appear on the album? Not sure where, but sometime after the release I thought I heard him say or her say that she was suggested to him. I assumed it meant for Piano Diaries but maybe she was just suggested to him a little while back as a young artist he might like to work with and that’s how they started working together? Now about the songs he said they completed by February last year, that I find fascinating. We had been hearing that she was working on an album for a while. In March last year she announced that her album was complete and just waiting for the label to wrap things up. Not sure what that meant. Then in May, Love Don’t Let Me Go was released as the first song off the “album”. Shortly alter there was suddenly talk of an EP, not an album. The EP was finally released over two months later. So what happened to the album? Why an EP instead? In about September last year, in a live chat, she mentioned that her “album” was coming out soon, it would be all originals and would be followed by a tour. Now obviously there has been a change in plans. Maybe she, or her family or Republic felt the time wasn’t right. Was the EP release actually originally to be a full album? Were the songs she worked on with Toby supposed to be included? Why was an EP released instead of an album? Was that her decision? Uncle Mike? Republic? She said she picked the songs for the EP so when it was decided to release an EP instead was it her that decided to leave off songs she had done with Toby? A lot of questions that may be answered some day There always seems to be a lot of mystery and surprises around Angelina

Yes it does seem like there was a change in plans. I mainly want her to be happy, and the main reason I would like her to be a star known by the masses is because she seems to want that, and, she could change the world for the better. But if she remains relatively unknown, hey, better for us fans in some ways! Small, intimate concerts.. I’m just enjoying the journey, although the “waitening” can be hard..

At one point the album was supposed to be finished. Lately she was saying she's working on the album again. If both statements are true, the only conclusion can be that somewhere along the line the song choices were scrapped and she had to restart from scratch.

I thinkAngelina said in her live interview that she reached out to Toby and studied the music before meeting up with him I heard her say in the interview in London that she wanted to make a song about her grandpa.I recall a RU-vid video made by Merry where she was singing part of the million miles to someone I believe was Toby Gad But I could be mistaken.

Good to hear. What about the US? Radio airplay seems to be picking up around the world but not in the US. I wonder if Uncle Mike has tried to get her on the talk shows. Will they even book a relatively unknown.

I think Toby is lovely with Angelina, and their brains would meet at a level most of us will never know. He's like a bit of a "peter pan" to me, but we are unaccustomed to hearing "child-like" delight and excitement in his voice. One thing we know is Angelina has her shield. In this case, I feel confident, at least on a personal level, she doesn't need protecting from him.

Since she was a young girl she has said that she wants to be a superstar and sing for the whole world. Now that may be the words of a little girl and “superstar” is relative. I don’t think she necessarily needs to be on the level of Taylor Swift in regards to popularity, and that may be too much anyway, but I think she wants wide recognition so she can spread her message of positivity. I also think she deserves recognition from more than just us core fans. Nothing would make me happier to see her breakout at least to the point that the general public knows who she is and appreciates her music.

Thanks, that's great news. I'm sure she'll be very successful she has all the right ingredients, and except for some occasional r n r in Norway she seems to be constantly working. It may be a while before she gets any awards from the music industry, though, because once she gets well known and starts winning grammys, I'm not sure who will be able to compete with her So there may delay it as long as they can.

But yes we dont know what happens in record company offices or even Mikael and AJ career management ... so as you say : wait and enjoy every second of AJ performing ! 😍

When Angelina write she had to choose 6 songs für the EP out of a hundred she had written, I didn't think she would have all those 100 readily recorded. But when I read that she had 8 with Toby alone, I come to think, well maybe, they were all already recorded. Exciting thought, but on the sad side, I'm quite sure we would not hear them all, and many likely only much later.

I think there’s no way they are all recorded. Who would have recorded them and when. I think she has songs in waiting and when she plans to do some recording she’ll select songs as needed. Many artists that write songs have a backlog of songs that they’ve never gotten around to recording , especially if they continue to write. So as you say, we may never hear many of the songs. Also, as she gets older and she has more experience and her songwriting skills continue to improve, some of the early songs she has already written may not be up to her standards anymore.

@@pjg58x Well, as said it wasn't my first guess either, but I think it's possible. When React-to-The-World met her pre-AGT, Sara already mentioned a planned album. So I guess she had some even back then recorded already. Then we know that Stargate did Million Miles and 7th Heaven "and a few more" with her, after AGT was aired, and prior to her signing with Republic. "A few more" sounds like at least 3 to me, but maybe it was 6, for also a total 8? Tor Eric Hermansen told Boris Palenovski how all of that came about: they met initially, and then set up for "a few weeks". The songwriters often are also producers, they have their own studios, and Angelina has her own studio. It should serve a purpose, shouldn't it? We don't know who else she worked with, and most names of co-writers/producers of her EP came as a surprise. If she did 5-8 songs with each, she only needed like 15 people/groups to work with. From post-AGT in early 2020 to Feb. 2023, it's been 3 years, so maybe 30 songs per year, makes 2.5 per month on average. As said, it seems possible. Do I think it is certain? Of course not!

Based on what I’ve read in articles and interviews, when Toby Gad and BC Jean worked on If I Were a Boy, they were writing songs for Jean’s debut album. They recorded a demo IIWAB but the record company rejected it. Eventually the record deal fell through all together for some reason. Toby then decided to take the songs they had written together and market them to established artists. That’s how it came to be that Beyoncé recorded the song. BC Jean was not initially happy about that because she saw herself as an artist, not just a songwriter for other artists. I suppose it was possible that ecause of how Toby felt after the songs he and Angelina had worked on were left off the EP/Album, he could have taken the songs and also presented them to established artists, assuming he was a cowriter. Fortunately it seems that hasn’t happened.

Thanks for the heads-up Chris. The music industry is an arcane, arbitrary and at times, cruel affair. UMG don't have a particularly great reputation so it will be interesting to see what transpires with Angelina. Do hope she stays the course but that is for her to decide who she collaborates with. This is purely personal and anecdotal but I've given up attempting to get friends and relatives to give her a listen. They are either not interested or if they do give her a chance, don't say anything. (Her hair has got some attention though!) Have also made many mentions of AJ on the various Reddit music sub-threads and The Guardian Newspaper Culture site and have had next to no response. Starting to feel Angelina is one of those artists you either get or you don't. That being said Daneliya Tuleshova and Diana Ankudinova and other big YT names are also largely anonymous. And remember, Lana Del Rey, Sabrina Carpenter et al had to wait until their mid 20's before cracking it. Not everyone is a Britney or Ariana. Ah well. All we can do is just keep Angie's name out there. Stay well everybody.🤓

I think European people in general handle association with others quite different from us in the US No one knows,at least at this time that anything like that is going on.I watch particular show on You tube and he talks about the differences between Norwiegen people and US.For one thing they seem to be big huggers. We can't say what hasn't happened so best to think the best of people.And the songs RR opted out on probably could not be poppy enough for their taste It's a low but Toby pulled himself up and did it himself with permission from them to use Angelina without stepping on toes.They are going to be on the album that RR was promising I think they let Toby take on most of the work and still share in the glory and there's going to be enough glory to go around😂❤

Toby told me One of the 8 is BAD VALENTINE, so there were 7 more that Angelina and Toby recorded prior to the EP release. They could do a separate EP and use those 8 songs and promote the whole thing as a Angelina Jordan/Toby Gad collaboration. When they officially release BV and if it does very well with the listening audience, I think it will make it an easier decision to release the rest of the other songs. Fingers crossed!

I have a feeling that disturbs me in this video and that has nothing to do with Angelina Jordan's vocal performance but rather that here she seems to be stressed about something. When she chooses a cover she likes she taps her foot which indicates that the emotion of the song totally absorbs her but not in this case. Where it's just my perception. Do you see a difference in his many covers like me?
