One thing to note is that when Angelina says "surround me with angels" she is referring to her fans.

The colourful figure represents her family and fire amidst danger and desolation . She realised at a very young age the impact her singing has had on her family. She asks them not to give up on her and to continue giving her protection. The angels she mentions are us, her fans! At least that’s how I interpret it. A remarkable composition, a great tune, and a brilliant video by Grandma Meri. Love it, love it, love it!

Zack, Angelina wrote this song as a tribute to her wonderful family’s being very vigilant and protective of her well being. The proof of what Angelina is saying in this song is when Angelina’s family refused to let Simon Cowell, Disney and several other recording companies who wanted to sign Angelina following her A.G.T. performances. Angelina still maintains to this day that she greatly appreciates her family’s dedication and commitment to protecting her from the dark side of the music industry.

They never gave up on her thankfully, I think the white dress is because she always wore a white dress when she performed, NGT, Feelin Good, her Norway concerts and so on. I just love her.

This music video, can have numerous interpretations. Angelina is in her colorful outfit, then after walking through the culvert, is in a white dress. Angelina wore a white dress in the vast majority of her early videos. I think the theme for this video, is coming of age, and Angelina's desire to keep her family and angels close to shield her against any harm. Angelina was 12 years old when this song was released, so her transition to her teen years is a likely message. I like to think, Angelina when waving to the train, is waving goodbye to her preteen years. The money around the fire. I like to think is a message that love and being true to yourself is more important than money.

Note that at the beginning she is wearing the colors but she comes put of the culvert and is now in white and her tattered colors are on the cross. You can always count on everything she does has meaning, just can be interpreted in different ways

Thanks for this reaction. This is a great song that often gets overlooked. Shield is Angelina’s 3rd released original . She was 12 at the time of release. Written about her family whom she calls her shield. She said she wanted the song to have a James Bond theme vibe In an interview prior to a live performance on TV the host said that people say she doesn’t seem like a 12 year old. He asked her if she felt like a 12 year old. She answered “I feel like a 12 year old when I look at my passport “

As you have heard, this is about her family. I think maybe the burning money signifies that it doesn't matter if you have love, support, protection, etc.

You know what’s interesting about her phrase surround me with angels and don’t let them go… What’s interesting is that her fans which I’m one of them and hopefully there’s a lot of us that are her fans. The song is directed primarily to her family who she thanks for being her shield - she refers explicitly to her family as "her shield" in the new documentary "10 years in the making" - and asks them to forgive her for the effect on their lives of following her dream.... the visuals are a bit more cryptic... note she starts off wearing a multi-colour outfit, the colours matching those on the ribbons attached to the cross, and then enters a tunnel and leaves in a plain white dress... There may be a religious element I am not sure... no doubt Grandma Mery is the main creative force behind the video.

The audio is from her released single, so she was maximum 12 when recording that.

She sang this also on a show where she did an interview before singing this song. In it, she said she music was influenced by the James Bond movies. Some of her favorite songs from the movies are Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever, both by Shirley Bassey. From different interviews/articles, and even in her 10 Years In the Making documentary , she mentions that her family is her Shield. The family is quite religious as well. The symbols and meanings of the things in the video are abstract and subject what you get from it. Mery being a famous poet and painter, you kind of wonder what she herself was trying to convey. The song itself is crazy good and to think she wrote this!

Actually Zack...the clothes she was wearing at the beginning, multi colored (think AGT, Bohemian Rhapsody) created by Grandma and Angelina is now on the cross and she is dressed in White after that...this one has been a mystery that only Angelina and Mery know as to the meaning...never has been explained. The song itself is pretty straight forward, her family and we fans are her shield from all the less than stellar people in the industry..."Surround me with Angels"....as the lyrics say...and we do. She gave us all a shout out in this one...brilliant for a 12 year old. Cheers brother, stay well. Notice she is burning Money (maybe Krone) at the end in the fire....interesting.

Yeah it's universal, a lot of her message and her lyrics are. Like here we think it's mostly about her close family. That's the only hint we got. But for sure this vid suggest god too, fits perfectly, there is us fans, or people in general around her. "don't leave me too soon" doesn't fit god too well. That's in her control. But overall it's supposed to be universal for all 3 options, or as you said, it could be a single person that you value and need that much. Great lyrics though. Shadows they whisper, stare at my soul. Already at 12 must have known plenty of people who speak freely to artists, even her as a kid, and often in weakness, sadness, anger. The money thing is just about what matters most when you're all alone in a see of dessert like that I guess. Kind of like her big dream, and us, her, family, and god. The money will be nice, but on her darkest days her shield is what matters.

If you notice the colors on her outfit she and her grandmother made for her to wear on AGT Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Champions, as she runs down the tracks with flowers in her hands which she later puts on the cross, and the pieces on the cross are the same bright colors as her outfit , they are very representative of her leaving her wordily things at the cross. When she comes out of the culvert she now has on just a humble white garment tied with a ordinary rope sash . Later she shown by a fire burning what looks like piles of money , a symbol of the unimportance of money as it relates to our final destiny. The biblical symbolisms are all through this video . Her line 'be my shelter for evermore' , family and fans are not a shelter for evermore, only God can be for evermore . Wordily people not versed in the scripture probably can not see these symbolisms ,that is understandable. You seem to understand the biblical implications in this video and these lyrics , great comments.

imho, Angelina’s original lyrics are normally pretty on the nose, by which I mean,there’s often an obvious, simplest, interpretation of the story she’s telling with her exquisite phrasing(musical) and way with words. But she tells the story in such a way that applies to more universal truths and experiences of the human condition 🤷🏻‍♂️ anyway, I think Shield is explicitly about her mother, note the longish blonde hair and face on the stick figure. At the same time, speaking as a Christian, the spiritual themes fit perfectly well within, I think, pretty standard Christian world view, especially considering how she approaches the cross aka stick figure, and says “forgive me for all that I am” This song may likely also resonate with other world views, but I can only speak to what I know ✌🏼

I think the colorful flag has something to do with her Nordic roots?
