I found this when i search the meaning of the song title "The name "Batonga" stems from a word Angelique made up as a response to taunts when she was going to school -- the boys didn't know what the word meant, but to her it was an assertion of the rights of girls to education." -wordnik
Great legacy for the unborn generation to enjoy. African Music and culture displayed in million folds in one song which hits differently in an aesthetic style. ❤️😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I am so happy I found this video. Remember being so intrigue with it back in my twenties. Her voice, the beats, the visuals, timeless. After all these years I have now realize my Ancestors have been calling on me. Must visit my Africa Continent homeland of my Ancestors.
I grew up in the nineties listening to Angelique Kidjo, her signature songs Wombo Lombo and Agolo left me wondering how Africa has such unique talent that you compare to none anywhere else. I don't even understand her Benin language but the percussion resonate with African mystic. Now Batonga, you got to salute Mother Kidjo Angelique.
I still do the mmmnn hmm mmm hmmm mmmhmmn, I guess I never grew from this song, every kid in Ghana born in my that's 20th century generation knows this song.
