Manouche guitarists are simply virtouosos of the steel string acoustic guitar played with plastic pick! Angelo is definitely one of the biggest names to continue on the django reinhard legacy and tradition..... What an incredible musician the man is!
My intention was not to compare the musicians. I am just tired to hear people saying that Rosenberg or Birelli are better than Debarre. I merely tried to give some credit to such a great musician. At their level is impossible to compare the different abilities; it is very subjective.
I say, that everyone, Stochelo,Bireli,Angelo,Tchavolo is very superb at its own tradition. You cannot say that one is better because they represent different styles of the same genre. For me, Bireli went out of Gypsyjazz and incorporated some other ideas, Stochelo made it supersonic, Tchavolo is swinging, but Angelo is my favorite- his sound is making my day much better. His phrasing is closest to my heart and what is genuine, he keeps the melody going at all times.Hope to see Angelo in Poland.
i agree to 100%! i once read a comment: "there is no best guitar player, but there is no one better than Tommy Emmanuel either!" basically implies the same thing. peace
Angelo has the level of Birelli or Stochelo or...anybody in this guitar world! Crossing our path in a live venue when the Rosenbergs started playing, he said:" listen you guys, this is the world's very best!". Another day, I was talking about Birelli, mentioning his amazing phrasing abilities on the archtop guitar, and Angelo said "and you haven't heard him play violin!!!" Having seen them all and jammed with some of them, I wouldn't choose between all these guys...
They are all good and will always be different. As they get better and better its the wonderful music that is coming from the depths of themselves to share and entertain us with that is important . Its not important who is the best...........this is bullshit......its not a schoolyard pissing contest nothing in life is or should be. The one thing they all have that is the same is....they love what they do.......... and god bless them.
Angelois named right he is an angel, because common people could never play like he does!!!! I think ive Django could here him, he would be very proud of him!!!!
Listening this for the first time, sitting smiling from ear to ear, think and laughing about how AMAZING THIS IS. In Total Respect and Admiration From Norway. You help people redefine Greatness, which I personally cant thank you enough for.
Every video I've seen where Angelo has played Le Vieux Tzigane there has been some minor alterations, but I'm guessing he keeps the core of the song intact while he improvises in between the melody. Man, this guy is an amazing guitarist, he plays the same songs, but plays them differently each time.
Birelli and Stochelo certainly play faster (which doesn't mean that Angelo can't play that fast). But Angelo play way way clearer than both of them, his tone is so clear and his his intonation is so perfect that you can give his solo to transcribe even to someone who has never did that before. Master of the tone and clarity.
I love these Gypsy Waltzes, and Angelo truly masters them! Thanks so much for this video. J'adore ces Valses Tziganes dont Angelo est l'un des maîtres incontestés! Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo.
Lots of great shots of his right hand. He seems to have quite a lot of his thumb extended over the pick, I think more than Stochelo does. RU-vid videos like this are very helpful when starting out, cheers! Beautiful playing. Viva la gypsy!!
I disagree with the people who say that angelo is not at the level of stochelo or birelli lagrene. If you watch the majority of the videos in wich they played together you can see how the shows have been plainly organized to put stochelo and lagrene in emphasis. they play for 3 minutes together with huge smiles, and then there is debarre who plays by himself behind the main scene. He is as talentful as them, and he is keeping a kind of gipsy jazz wich is narrow and full of traditional sounds.
What a luck after 2 weeks I´ve found the song! It´s called "Manège" a composition of Angelo Debarre and can be found on the album: "Trio Tout a Cordes "
Django is looking down watching and listening to Angelo, takes a buff in his cigarette and then he goes “huh…intéressent..tres bien” or something along this lines! His rendition of “Troublant Bolero” min 18:20 is simply heavenly!
What I enjoy with Angelo is that he doesnt leave a single tone. Every note is done perfectly, without any false sound, or lack of pressure.. And I enjoy so much the music he can play with just a piece of wood with some strings. Im a big Stochelo fan too, and both are living guitare gods. How could you guy rate gods ? (sorry for my english, I'm French)

you are right. there is no comparison between the "dutch" style and angelos jaw dropping technique, musicality and knowledge of traditional gypsy folk music. Most who even try and compare him with anything...are not educated.....
Angelo ne joue pas que des notes. Il raconte une histoire qui nous touche en plein cœur. Il joue incroyablement vite, clair, propre, et toujours plein de chaleur et d'harmonie. Cela fait de lui le guitariste le plus talentueux.
9.25-9.27 - I could spend the rest of my life just trying to play that 2 second lick and I'm sure I'd never get there. I say that with some confidence because I've already been playing 36 years.
+malarbusto //-))) , perhaps, who knows and with all due respect and polite irony, you've been playing that "moment" all together wrong, but who am I to speak ?-) ...you made me come back to check the lick you mentioned...four times, until now, mind you...I didn't take notice of it, bless you for that crazy bookmark !...but, then again, come to think of it, these People are one lick after the other, a golden string suffering from a pearljam...it's only human that humans miss a pearl there...back to do-mi-sol-do now :-DD
@@harrykuheim6107 Knowledgde of generations of musicians stands in the background of good performing. Some sofisticated exercises can take you far away from the place where you tought your borders are.
When I see the technique Angelo I'm just breathless with excitement, he does a magician, and his fingers are true magical. I think that the comparison of the greatest guitarists of the world - at least it's silly, because each of them is very nice and unique! I'm sure Django from heaven is proud of each of them - Angelo Debarre, Stochelo Rosenberg, Joscho Stephan, Birelli Lagrene, Romane, Dennis Chang, Yaakov Hoter, John Jorgenson, Wawau Adler, and all of guys who are playing great Jazz Manouche
funny how people always compare everything ..this is art not olympic competition.. best is always relative to your taste and technicality alone is nothing in arts .. its just the basis... my fav is jimmy rosenberg people seem to forget about him !!!!but angelo debarre definitely has some touch !!! to those who compare everything .. do you believe ferrari or porsche would exist without the invention of the weel of metalcasting of advanced mecanics of diesel combustion engines and such ???? everything is born out of something .. its music an ancestral tradition that always reinvents itself but never out of nothing
