In my opinion, that role was Brenda Fricker's best and most iconic role. Probably because I, too was in a foster home and was looking for an angel, and like Roger and JP, I also found my Angels. Roger and JP had George Knox, I had two sisters who adopted me into their family and loved me as their baby brother. They didn't take any crap from anyone, especially me, but they were my family, my Angels. Rest in Peace, Colleen and Georgia. YOU were my Angels
Disney hasn't lost a thing. Americans have lost perspective of what it means to show love and acceptance to those who are different, to those who have different beliefs.
@@davidsbraga9472 I agree with you that America has lost our sense of empathy and concern. We're more concerned about our personal rights, real or imagined, than we are about our neighbors. It is more important now that everyone is tolerant of everyone's pronouns, feelings, lifestyles, and life choices. To those who can't, we are all over them, demanding they be canceled from our culture. We are tolerantly intolerant. But I also agree that Disney has lost something too. CEO Chapek, affectionately known as Cheapek by many, believes in the power of the dollar over the importance of family. This is evident in his personal style of company management, charging more for less, implementing pricing and practices at the parks that Walt abandoned. Disney's cast members should never be homeless. They should make enough to have a roof and three meals a day. Yes, Walt could play hardball when he had to, but he also knew that without the family, his business wouldn't survive. Chapek sees families as open wallets instead of guests. When he can guide the company back to a family first plan, Disney will be back on track, imho.
Although, I will say that a lot of the comedy in this movie still holds up. It's not gut-busting hilarious, but it's still got a comedic charm to it. That all being said, Angels in the Outfield is still a masterpiece.
It's really amazing at how much of a transformation Knox goes through in this movie. In the beginning he was someone who just wanted to trade every single one of his players. And in turn it gave everyone a negative opinion about him, possibly not wanting him to be in charge. Yet showing everyone supporting Knox truly shows how much he had changed, and in turn changed the opinions of every single player. They went from being a dysfunctional team, to becoming a family.
Never realized how big a deal the Actress who played Aunt Maggie was at the time. Four years prior to this, she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
@@Frankie-O yes, they stood by him. In beginning of the movie Knox was a total jerk, after winning most of the season, and changing his management style he soften towards them made him believe in his team, and them vice versa. That's a mark of a true leader he was Down for them and they were down for him
It’s 2024 and I’m 40 now. Still tear up at this scene everytime i see it. So much more than what is said. I don’t know how to describe it but you feel it as you watch it.
It feels like the very memory and legacy and love of Walt Disney is fading away but it will never fade away from true fans of his legacy. I will always cherish Walt Disney forever.
@@eaglefang8656 I will not stand for this so called agenda but I will not hate anyone who comes out of the closet as long as they have faith in God and love their family they are the ones I will stand by because it's my own heart even my soul that knows that we can bring people together through unity and equality because it would mean so much to God that we see more love than hate. Love is equally superior and far mightier than any man made hatred. Even those who don't have faith I will still stand for them because even if I can't save them they have to find peace with God in order to be saved. Standing up for someone is like standing up for a friend.
Only nut jobs think Disney doesn't do this anymore. You people are the problem not them. You're too busy hurting people and blaming others for your issues instead of figuring things out for yourself.
It wasn't that they were laughing at what she said. It was more that the point itself was funny. A simple and at the same time outraugeour reason why they won, but it still happened.
My absolute favorite movie growing up. I used to watch this film all the time on VHS and when it used to come on Disney. I hope they bring it to streaming apps soon.
I will stand for George Knox out of my deepest love for God I will stand with George Knox. I need to believe more than ever because even if it's sports or coming home from work or school or even a vacation or church I know that everyday I'm alive and living and breathing because God wants me to live to change for the rest of my life because I won't give up on God
The look on the owner’s face when he knew he got outplayed was priceless. Sure he could’ve still pulled Knox and called up from AAA for anyone that actually did walk, but who in their right mind would try to call that potential bluff? Especially in full view of the press
I'm a Dodgers fan and I stand for George Knox too!! I went to 4 D-Backs games when I lived in Phoenix for 2 years while I was going to school at ASU from 2019 to 2021. During those 2 years in Phoenix, I had some of the best days of my life. I sure had Angels on my side when I succeeded at ASU by making the Dean's List 3 of the 4 semesters and graduating with high honors with a 3.75 GPA!! I never caught COVID while in Arizona too! I'm proud to say that Phoenix, Arizona was my home for 2 years!!
To be fair, this movie was already a remake. If Disney wants to attempt a second one, they’ll really have to bring their A game and find a truly magnificent cast to to even achieve this kind of magic again.
@@marckempe2143 I would rather current Disney not even try…., making a good movie that isn’t an attempt to push an ideology just isn’t something they can do anymore. Plus even a tacit acknowledgment of Christianity that isn’t mocking isn’t going to happen in todays Hollywood
@@flyingdutchman8093 that’s not entirely accurate, but I get what you’re saying. Honestly, Disney isn’t even trying to do anything daring nowadays, I mean even ‘The Avengers’ wasn’t much of a risk because of ‘Iron Man’ which wasn’t even a movie from Marvel Studios in the first place.
@@flyingdutchman8093 I’ve watched it so far, and I definitely don’t agree on some aspects. In the comics, the accident that Walters was in was so bad that she needed a transfusion and Bruce was the only ready source available with her blood type. That makes a hell of a lot more sense than a few drops in an open wound causing the mutation, I mean the Hulk isn’t Godzilla.
Loved this movie as a kid, its still fun today! I remember the vhs. It was a Disney film, so it had that soft book-like cover that you opened. I loved those cases! I'm still pissed that i lost all of them when i moved.
It's sad that nowadays people do get mocked and laughed at for crediting God. The same people trying to push freedom of belief are the ones who badger religious people.
So Knox punching a guy in the face and starting a fight with his own players isn't a big deal but saying he believes in Angels is almost a cause for dismissal?
Baseball especially in the Majors can be difficult & weird. To them they thought he was going loony & considered his mental health unstable hence he was unfit to manage the team
That was Ranch’s plan he hated Knox and was gonna do anything to get him fired he also knew J.P. was the weaker one. Why do you think Ranch got fired at the end
@@darrendoyle568 Ranch thought that this would make Knox look like a crazy person, and he would fired and his legacy tarnish. He thought this make his career n make him more popular than Knox but actually it did the opposite. His plan just made the people love Knox more. His over confidence was his weakness.
Maggie the goat for interrupting once she knew Knox was backed into a corner and there was no answer he could give that would both help him keep his job and tell the truth
That goes for me too cuz I believe in angels and why do you think our baseball team won the World Series in the same way with the st. Louis Blues when they won the first Stanley Cup. Witches I believe in God And I think this movie was a good film talks about faith and believing. To fight for what we have. That goes for every sport in his organization. It is passion for what these players have done from the very start to play hard and to work hard as a team.
I've been that little boy every year of my life. But only the part before he saw angels. Then I met someone who saw. And I lost her. I'm never ever getting over it. I liked the music.
Ranch: 0:59 Me: Well it is the 90s: 1. Last year A 13 year old pitched for the Chicago Cubs l, but nobody talks about that. 2. This year we have a 12 year old managing the Minnesota Twins, but once again, nodbody talks about that 3. Also this year we have a New York Yankee throwing 125 MPH fastballs with no steroid's found in his body and God forbids the Media talks about the Yankees 4. Next thing you know, a chimp or a dog will play for the Angels. Hell we may have a shot signing Rick Vaughan in the offseason. So yeah. There's a chance that there could be Angels helping the team cheat...I mean win.
3:07. I've seen this actor as a District Attorney on Boomtown, a ruthless businessman on Justified... ...but he was willing to wear THAT on camera? With a smile on his face? That's acting.
No matter what anyone says or judges when an athlete scores in hockey, football, or baseball or whatever... whether they genuflect, or get on their knees and pray to Allah, God, or Buddha that's not something to laugh at or judge...an athlete humbling themselves to thank a higher power for their skill is beautiful.
They’re having a press conference about questioning why the team is winning so much? I’d be like “yo, we’re winning and in first place. What exactly is the problem?”
I think she was talking about the team; not the spiritual angels. The team was doing terrible before the All Star Break in July. Then after that break, the Angels arrived and the team was doing better.
Sad but true. This was a time where writers were writers. They weren't afraid to use their imagination, they had heart and spirit back then. These days all we have are activists
I hate when religious shit is in movies. I used to love this movie when I was kid but as I have grown up I hate religion and am sick of how much praise god gets.
