My dad grew up like this, he grew up to make 6 figures and when we went to school, he would give us enough lunch money for ourselves and some extra in case we were still hungry, because he didn’t want us to ever have an empty stomach and if we didn’t need it, he wanted us to use the rest for some other kid in need.

i can relate with the teacher bit, i was diagnosed with autism (high functioning)when i was in kindergarten, however once grade 1 came around with a teacher who was not trained to deal with a young child on the spectrum it went to hell, i fully remember not being picked for anything even when my hand was raised, then we got to reading my favorite book for halloween, "a tiger called Thomas" by 6 i was already reading grade 3 books so i could easily read the entire thing,+ we had the book at home, however she picked the kid next to me, i got mad so i stood up with the book looked her dead in the eyes and read the entire thing

Amen brother i have a story too. When i was in kindergarten, i acted autisticly towards other kids which made them think i was mentally ill. I had almost no friends until school came around and i was in 1st grade, and i had no friends. Until i met a kid, a kid that does my actions. He was hyperactive just like me. When we met, we became friends forever, he changed my life and showed me what it's like to be weak, so instead of being weak, i became strong. I was also a prodigy at math, but no could care less. They thought i was a shadow of thilfyness and disgust, that i was just an autistic kid. And that made me angry. I wanted to beat them up, but my soul said no, i tried clinching my fists as hard as i could, but my mom and dad said no, they said that releasing your anger at everyone would make you a bad person. I listened, but i was still with one true friend and hundreds of fake friends. I wanted to be loved, until i made it to another school. And when the kids looked at me, they loved me at first sight and we became best friends forever.

I can relate to not having enough to eat as a child. Except as a child of 8-12 years old my dad was remarried to his 2nd wife & she would deliberately feed me poorly, cause we weren't poor at all. I'd get rations worse than a jail inmate. Had to survive by any means necessary! I want to see this movie. I wonder were I can stream this movie?

Horrible job by the teacher. If you see a kid from a economically struggling family, you have to embrace them whenever want to participate and protect them from bullying since they are more exposed to it than the others. I know it's a movie, but some teachers really are blind and don't see (or want to see) what happens on the schoolyard. Which is as important as what happens in the classroom (if not more).

George had part native American lineage, some European too which is evident in his features and skin tone yet they get a kid who looks like a young Sonny Liston to play his younger self and an actor who looks more like Ron Lyle to play him as an adult. The Ali choice of actor in this film was equally cack handed.
