Brilliant - as always. No waffle, clear instruction , the right speed to make it as easy as possible and an accurate version of the original tune. Thank you!!!!

This is the most fun I've ever had playing the guitar. Thanks so much for doing this. I've only mastered the first 3 phrases but it's so much fun when you get one down!

Know this is 2 years ago, but dear prudence is another really fun one to master. It'll strain your hands cause ya gotta do that pinky reach but hella fun once you get it down.

Thanks! It truly is a fun piece. Davey Graham's mother, btw, is from Guyana. In a way, this piece is part of the British folk revival, but also the Latin American guitar continuum.

My dad went to see a niel young show about a decade ago. Before the young came on, an old guy came on the stage, my dad thought he was there to clean it or something. Anyways, he sat down with an acoustic guitar and my dad said that it was the greatest guitar player he has ever seen in person. The man was Bert Jansch, only a few months before he died. My dad had never heard of him before then

Hi there....I'll have to back what someone else said,you are the best teacher for fingerstyle on here...and I've tried others n the not half as clear on their style...watched your top 100 fingerstyle songs the other day,god knows how you remember all those songs because I couldn't...but yeah I've learnt everything fingerstyle from u because your the best tutor ie most recently Aril come she will...just finished it,also "feeling groovy" which is the first song i learnt from u and also "the wind" and now this I'm ready to start...which is belter, massive bert fan and pentangle,fan of all of what i mentioned and more Nick drake,Roy harper,john martyn,Crosby stills n nash,so one more thing I would be made up if you could do a Crosby stills and nash song called "helplessly hoping" or any of the first album but really like this song n also Nick drake who i knows he's got a unique style but anything by him,i would be made up because as i said your the best tutor on here hands down and fantastic guitarist...keep up the good work buddy!👍✌

I would agree with so many comments here about the clarity of your video lessons. I downloaded Big Love, which I would say is right at the limit of my fingerpicking and I can't even get close to Lindsey Buckingham's speed...but it is great fun! I was struggling to reconcile the TAB I downloaded from your site with your video, and I just realised that there seem to be two versions there. I think I have bought the Davey Graham arrangement, which explains it I guess. It seems to differ quite a lot. Never mind, I think I will manage it with the help of the videos, as the key is the same and there are other similarities. This is another quite tricky but fun piece, so thank you. Great channel and great tutor, sir!

Question! Do I need to hold down the full F chord in the second part, or can I just put my index finger on fifth string first fret while leaving the other strings open?

Try to keep your fingertips nice and perpendicular to the fretboard, apart from that it's all just practice and being careful!
@phillipgoodin3907
@phillipgoodin3907 3 года назад
If the guitar is tipping toward you..try giving it a more perpendicular to the floor angle..the string might clear...kmg

Great tutorial but i found that switching to the F position is kind of pointless and makes the pattern more complicated than it needs to be. I play it just find leaving my fingers in the Am position because the D string is never even touched through the entire song. What's the purpose of you switching to that shape? Just curious.
@SixStringFingerpicking
@SixStringFingerpicking 4 месяца назад
I tend to hold down the shape of whichever chord I’m playing, I think it tends to lead to all round good technique. That’s all

love berts version of this song and like the video ... but i find it really difficult to follow when every note is explained. i only pick up the tune up when you play sections in slow motion. at this level i dont need my hand holding. for example i dont need to hear third fret second string then second fret first string then forth fret fith string ... it just makes it impossible to pick up the pattern or tune. have a look over at SHUTUPANDPLAY guitar lessons on youtube this being said your video is the only one i found with a bert jansch version of the song and you clearly know your music and i wouldnt have got far in this song without you thank you for the video
