God loves you and all sinners. Look at john 4 parable on the Samaritan woman who were a a pagan and an adulterer. Jesus offered her a drink AND asked her for a drink. This drink represents prayer, the spiritual water that lead us to eternal life. Holy Spirit is the master of prayer and He is often symbolized as a water. He invites you to pray! He literally thirsts for your soul, just like when He was on the cross saying "I thirst"

Don’t believe the lie that we are capable to struggle with our sinful nature and prevail. We need Christ because by his righteousness we are granted access to God’s presence once more but also it is his victory on the cross that destroys the sinful nature in our life. Our faith in Christ doesn’t mean we wont struggle with sin as we still live in a world corrupted by sin, but because of our new nature in Christ we can be empowered by the presence of God (Holy Spirit) to overcome, we must find peace in him. I say these things with love! I struggled many years with what you are describing. There is hope, don’t stop pursuing God’s presence and truth, he will be made known to you in the depth of your being. Once that occurs nothing can rock you or remove you from his presence, only by his will and strength not your own.

I became a believer after looking for truth for a time and that is a LONG story itself. I went to bible college for a time and left after meeting my wife, getting married, and having kids. Then, I decided to get a science degree in petroleum and everything pointed to God and a creator, order from chaos. After graduating with that it was decided to go back to bible college and graduate with a biblical studies degree. I feel they go hand in hand and only streghtened my belief in God and everything in the scriptures. I've had some amazing experiances with God and have met some phenominal people through the years.

Genuine question (I am completely uneducated on Christianity): God created the universe. His explanation is that the universe couldn't have created the universe because that just doesn't make sense (correct me if I'm wrong), so it must have been some higher entity, aka God. But did something create God? Was there something before God? Why was God there? Why is God here? Can someone educated please answer these questions for me? Like I said, I am genuinely curious to know if there is an answer for this.

Great questions. To answer your questions you have to return to what Aristotle called First Principles. First Principles are truths which are so true you have to use them to deny them. Each of the Academic disciples are built upon a First Principle. For instance, Logic which in essence means to put you words in correct order is a negative test for truth. it proves error but is insufficient in itself to prove truth. You can have something that is logical but is not true, but you cannot have something true that is not logical. Therefore, we start with the first principle of logic which is the Law of Opposites. Two opposing truths cannot both be true at the same time and in same sense. The universe had a beginning or it did not have a beginning. These are the only two possible options. Then we must combine with the Law of Opposites, the Law of Identity - the fact that words have meaning and refer (i.e. must refer to reality). You see, reality must exist to make philosophical inquiry valid. If we assert that everything is illusion then any attempt to talk about it in a coherent way that corresponds to reality would be absurd. There can be things that appear to be illusion - a misperception of reality; but everything cannot be an illusion. Therefore, if we are going to talk about the universe we need to use terms that refer, that are broken into categories, and segments so as to describe that which we see. This leads me to the other First Principles which we must include in our test for truth: coherence (each individual truth must sum to the whole), and then correspondence (it must correspond to reality). so when we invite these witnesses into the cosmological court room for debate we see that the Universe has a beginning (this is confirmed by Eistein's Theory of Relativity, and by Arno Penzias Background radiation discovery. Both point to an expanding universe and decreasing levels of background radiation which corresponds to what would be expected by an point of singularity related to the creation event). Then we add to these two the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. we see that the Universe had a beginning, it is expanding, and useable energy is running down. We can reasonably conclude that the Universe had a beginning. Then we must look at what type of universe we live in. Ludwig Wittgenstein said of the universe "you cannot say of an illogical universe what it would be". this is precisely the fact. The fact that you can use terms, language, categories, etc... to describe our universe means that is the kind of universe in which you live. Then we come to your other point which is science. When we look at the Principle of Causality - the basis of science - the study of cause and effect. we find that this principle applies to a physical universe which has boundary conditions placed upon it. Then we look into the universe we see and we see that there exists specified complexity. This is the inverse of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. Natural law can posit DNA that is specified. it might even be able to explain through natural law the development of DNA that is complex. But we find in living creatures DNA that is both specified and complex. This only exists where there is an intelligent first cause. Therefore, we need to go back further. Until you can understand and apply these principles correctly it is a waste of time to discuss the Creator. Now, if you are going to bring anything into judgment (book or person, or even "God"), you must have a standard by which you judge. That standard to be valid must be transcendent (apply to everyone everywhere to be fair), it must be unchanging (as it would have to apply across time), and it has to be true. What standard are you using to judge the Bible? what standard are you using to judge Jesus? If you have a standard, where did it come from? Is your standard based on truth? A naturalistic worldview has no logical base for truth. This can be seen in Richard Dawkins own writings who states this point blank. In his worldview you are simply dancing to your DNA which doesn't know and doesn't care. There is no ontic referent, no touchstone, no benchmark that is transcendent, unchanging and true. Because a naturalist worldview is self-constructed, it is relativistic in nature. If your worldview is pantheist, then you run into a problem because pantheistic religions hold that everything is an illusion. if they are not true on their primary principle then how can they be true in the details? If you reject the Bible, you are free to do so. If you reject Jesus, you are free to do so. That is the beauty of what is captured in the jurisprudential definition of personhood. But you must realize that even though the agreed-to jurisprudential definition of personhood may outline your right to conceptual thought, and it may articulate your ability to act and make decisions as a person who has the freedom to act against instinct; we need to remember it also states we have the ability to know the difference between good and evil, and that we have an obligation to choose the good and reject the evil. This is basis of international law. so if you say that a person is evil, you are also implying that another person acting differently can and is most likely good. If there is a person who is evil and another person is good, then there must be a standard by which you are judging it. if there is a standard then there must be an author to that standard. Can you outline your standard? Can that standard change? if it can change, how do we know it needs to change? and if it changes, can it ever change back? And after we outline the landscape of this beacon of light which stands as a standard for all humanity to judge between right and wrong both in and out of time, both in the physical and also metaphysical realms... the question still remains: who authored this standard? So you have called into question the logic, the arguments, the statements of John Lennox. You have outlined the malicious and capricious nature of a so-called-god that you do not know and agnostically deny; and you seem to be labeling Jesus as a fraud bordering on schizophrenia. I find this truly and literally incredible.

You were aliar and still are, you may not have believed in any god but you were certainly not an atheist, an atheist is one that disbelieves not that gods exist, or can exist, but has no reason to believe unevidenced gods do, to become a theist from an atheist one would have had to discovered irrefutable, undeniable, indisputable, empirical, unfalsifiable, conclusive evidence that a god actually exists,and no one has ever been able to do that.

@@AM_o2000 so exactly what is not true, one under a delusion is not an atheist and only technically a atheist if an unbeliever, and one can be an unbeliever for any reason, not so an atheist. Many unbelievers quite rightly claim not to be atheists and dislike being described as atheist, though it's generally recognised if one does not believe in gods they are atheist.
