I saw this episode of Angie Harmon on Who Do You Think You Are. It turns out that the farm she went to visit, where she met her distant cousin, has been kept in the Harmon family for 300 years! So, she’s actually walking on the same land as her 5 times great grandfather! Amazing!

One thing I've noticed about famous people that live outside of California, either back in their home states or elsewhere tend to be alot more connected with reality and just more relatable and down to earth and at peace.

The original name "Harman" actually translates to "army-man" (= soldier) in German. And there's something about the first name at 2:47 It's stated as "Mich'l", not "Michael". Now, "Mich(e)l" is nowadays seen as a short or alternative form of "Michael", but it used to be a hidden name. Here's the short version for those, who only want to learn about the meaning and don't care about the backstory: While "Michael" is a biblical name (-> Hebrew), "michel" is an adjective in Middle High German (a historical form of German, that is not spoken anymore). It means "big". Most originally German names consist of two words in Middle High German. That includes names, that still exist in English, like Richard ("rich + strong"), Robert ("tall + bright"), Baldwin ("brave friend"), Belinda (from Bertlinda = "bright + tender") etc. Even Amerigo Vespucci's first name (after which the continent of America was named) has this German root. It's the Italian version of "Amelrich". Now, the first part, "amel", means "hardworking" or "industrious". The second part, "rich" is trickier, because it has multiple meanings as an adjective and a noun. Like in the name Richard, the adjective "rich" means "rich" or "powerful". But used as a noun it can also mean "monarch" or "kingdom". So you can translate Amelrich as "hardworking + rich" or metaphorically as "someone, who has earned his wealth". But you can also translate America as "powerful kingdom". Now, back to Mich'l: I called this a hidden name for a reason. Germans weren't too enthusiastic about being christianised for quite a long while. Although from the 4th century AD on considerable efforts were made to destroy paganism in Europe and make Europeans good little members of the church, many groups like the German tribes fought it. When it became apparent, that they would have to submit to the church's rule, because their aristocrats had accepted Christianity, they found other ways to preserve their cultural heritage. The church showed its supremacy by renaming their holy places, for example, to extinguish traces of the pagan gods. They tried to put Christian names on them, and were surprised when the stubborn locals suddenly took action and named many of the holy mountains and hills "St. Michael's mountain/hill". To missionaries (who were usually foreigners and knew little to nothing about the local culture) this seemed like a success, but it wasn't. People only pretended to comply, by using their own words (like michel = big), that resembled biblical names (Michael), to satisfy the church and still preserve the original meaning. Many St. Michael's mountains used to be called Wotansberg (= Odin's mountain) before christianisation. They coded them as "the BIG god's mountain". Similarly they started using the female biblical name "Anna"/"Hannah" very early on, because it resembled "Arna", the short form of several female German names starting with "arn" = "eagle", like Arnhild (female "eagle warrior"). But was this still a common thing in the 18th century, when Michael Harman was born? Yes. As long as people spoke Middle High German, they were aware of the true meaning of the hidden names, and even after that time this was passed on as secret knowledge in groups, that tried to evade the church's rule. To understand how long opposition to the church existed in Germany, you need to know, that in 1284 AD a whole town was punished for engaging in a pagan summer solstice celebration. Those people's children were lured away by authorities and buried alive in a mountain cave. You know this town as Hamelin and the story as the story of the Pied Piper. There is a real historical background to it, that has been preserved in chronicles, even with an eyewitness, who saw the piper lead the children out of the town. So 900 years after Christian missionaries had begun to wipe out paganism, there were still people in Germany, who remembered their pagan traditions and followed them. I personally know of a German village, whose inhabitants were resettled into a swamp in the 18th century, because they refused to attend church. The local bishop was made aware of their unruly behaviour, had their original village destroyed and made them build a church on the only rock in the swamp, so he could install a priest there and make them attend. It's absolutely possible, that Michael Harman came from a very poor and remote corner of Germany, where the church didn't have as much influence as it would have liked to have, and was given a hidden name, because his people still - after 1400 years of persecution - rejected Christianity.

It is very odd that some people who are assisted with their genealogy are made to wear gloves when handling original documents, and some aren't. Personally, I would wear gloves. The oil in your hands will not hurt the original documents that way. The originals are extremely fragile, and should always be treated that way.
