When he said ‘it was created in Ayutthaya’s image’ ... my heart shed a tear, because as a Bangkok native I was raised to remember how each part of Rattanakosin Island (old Bangkok) was a reminder in miniature of the glory of Ayutthaya. Every neighborhood in old Bangkok had its exact place in Ayutthaya, so the survivors of the sack of Ayutthaya would never forget the beauty of their former home...and the original temples and palaces of Bangkok were built from those same bricks in Ayutthaya transported specifically so that Ayutthaya lives on in Bangkok.

I have a huge fascination with Thailand. When I was a child growing up in the Philippines, I didn't know much about the country. But I have those dreams about a place where there were so many temples, colourful food/delicacies, and beautiful culture. Years later I have almost forgotten about it. When I was in 5th grade we had a school program to celebrate the United Nations Day. Our teacher told me to represent Thailand, I have to make a speech and presentation wearing a traditional Thai costume. So, I have to make a research. While reading books and seeing photos of Thailand. I thought it was really familiar. I asked my parents if we have traveled to Thailand as a child. My mom said no, she hadn't traveled to another country at that time. Suddenly, I remembered seeing them in my dreams when I was much younger. As a grown-up, before moving to Canada, I went to Dubai to work for a little over 2 years. And guess what? I worked in an internationally known hotel chain owned by the Thai Royal Family and of course, there were so many Thais employed at the hotel in different departments but most of them were chefs. Because of the language barrier, they tend to hang out among themselves but one day, one of the Thais approached me. Apparently, he wanted us to be friends. He told me that I look like Thai from the Chang Mai region. I thought that was really awesome because I was interested I just didn't know how to approach them. He invited me to their place for dinner. I remember there were about 6 of them sitting on the floor surrounding the food. That was my first experience with authentic Thai food and culture. Eventually, I became friends with everyone and I learned so much about their culture. My admiration for the Thai culture just grown on me. Several months later I visited Thailand and it was amazing. It's was like walking to a place you are familiar with. Fast forward, 11 years later I have traveled to many beautiful countries but Thailand is still my favourite. I was planning to visit again this year but due to the pandemic, all travel plans got canceled. Hopefully, I could still travel this year if it is already safe to travel. If not, early next year to reconnect with the culture and see some friends I am still in touch with today. Sawasdee Khap Thailand! Khub Khun Kap!

But my heart is Thai culture i know a little bit culture/history of Thai because of the Thai lakorn named Neung Dao fah diew i learned a little bit of Thai culture and currently learning Thai right now. I Love Thailand. Ayuthaya named after Ayodhya, the Capital of Bhagwan Ram. Thailand was of Hindu Dharma and the King's name has suffix of Rama, reflects it. The samudramandhana well crafted at Bangkok Airport is there for everyone to see. After Buddhism spread around from India, one of its tradition shown influence on Thai people.

I think the golden age of Ayutthaya was during the reign of King Narai as Ayutthya had a diplomatic relation with court of French. For the collapse of Ayutthaya, I also realize that the past is past , Thai and Myanmar in present day are good friends and support each other . I hope friendship between 2 countries continues forever.

I watched the drama Love Destiny and it makes me want to try wearing Thailand traditional clothes and visit the country while learning about the cultures. I wish that Indonesia can be like this, wearing traditional clothing without being embarrassed and proud of the cultures that had been there for thousands of years without any judgment from the people that know about history but choose to be blind about it.

I come from Vietnam a neighboring country with Thailand. I can partly understand the era of King Narai the Great, the happenings in the imperial court, the important events of Ayutthaya through the Thai TV series "Love Destiny". I feel very cherished this place because This place has a rich history and huge architectural works. If I have the opportunity to visit, Ayutthaya is the first place I want to visit when I come to Thailand.

whenever i see that old Temple of Ayutthaya Empire, i feel the spirit of those who lives in there comes in alive, it is fascinating experience & looks like i was once live with them from the past.

I Believe Thailand is One of The Most Beautiful, Ancient and Cultural Country in The Southeast Asia and in The World.

Ayutthaya was named after the Indian city of Ayodhya which is believed to be the birthplace of the God Rama. Those traditional outfits look very similar to the Kanchipuram sarees in India. Altho, they never went out of style here

My great-grandfather was from China and my great-grandmother was Thai, and my grandfather was half-Thai, Chinese, and my grandmother came from a Thai-Chinese family.Therefore my father came from the Thai-Chinese family who married a Thai mother.Although my roots came from China, I am proud to say that I am Thai. I'm glad to be born in a country that has a long history for me to remember.

My husband occupation, IBM brought us to Bangkok, Thailand in 2003 and lived there for almost 3 years. My husband's friend took me a trip to Ayutthaya and so glad she did. I can relate the to Peter's documentary about this wonderful city. It does resembled Cambodia's Angkor Wat. Your documentary Peter of Ayutthaya is perfect, that I watched it twice. Thank you, Peter Lee you made me remember how much I love living in Thailand.

George Cœdès (1886 - 1969) the French scholar of Southeast Asian archaeology and history was a person who coined the term "Indianized States" to explain many Kingdoms in Southeast Asia including Ayutthaya which recieved many cultures from India, such as Hinduism and Buddhism. He was the director of National Library of Siam in 1918.

Here in india, my grandma used to make fire pot using the same technique of using mud and rice husk. It is interesting to know that this technique was practiced long time ago.

19:25 This event are in all of Thai history textbook. And also accept by the Myanmar's scholar. In the situation of out numbered and may be defeated, King Naresuan said to prince Mingyi Swa "Instead of just watch our solder killing each other under the shade, We could avoid the unnecessary death if we just fight one on one." This means many things. Both of the king and the prince were value their own solder's life as worth to be save even though that means to risk their own life. And also means they're both confident in their own battling skills. They're also prideful. And there're back story as King Naresuan born as Ayutthaya prince was once captured by Burma when Ayutthaya was defeat the first time, The Burmese king Nanda Bayin raise the prince as one of his own child. So king Naresuan and Prince Mingyi Swa are like brothers who know each other so well. Both of them known to be love to challenge or compete each other since childhood. It's King Nanda Bayin himself who assign prince Naresuan back to Ayutthaya to rule the area under Burmise kingdom. Not knowing that prince Naresuan would liberate Ayutthaya back to it's own state like it was 15 years ago, Which make him become a king. Myanmar might see this action as rebelling instead of liberation. But every one agree that both king Naresuan and prince Mingyi Swa were legendary brave man who fought one on one over an elephant for the last time of the history, And end the battle, safe their men's life from unnecessary death. (That might also end up as a defeat for Ayutthaya)

this was really really cool! I'm very fond of watching documentaries of past empires. it's extremely fascinating. when one day i visit Thailand, I'll be sure to pay Ayutthaya special attention! it's a historical powerhouse. can't wait to try one of those traditional outfits, too. they look lovely.

'Krabi Krabong' - Incredible ! This same fighting form is in the Indian state of Kerala with *same* fighting tools known as 'Kalaripayattu'. Battles and feuds would be settled with this deadly now art form in yester years!! It's found only in Kerala in India.

The characteristics of Thai people according to the view of Prince Damrong Rajanubhab (1862 - 1943) the younger brother of King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn 1853 - 1910 reigned 1868 - 1910) and one of the most important Thai History scholar s. 1.Freedom - Thai people like to live with freedom and will never let any other powers to have the power over them. Even sometimes Thais are under foreign influences, Thai people will fight until they get their freedom back. 2.Tolerance - Any foreigners, despite what their backgrounds, their races, their religions are, as long as they live properly and don't do anything wrong. They can live in Thai society with Thai people peacefully without discrimination. 3.Assimilation - Thai people can adapt other cultures into their own cultures. And, if any foreigners decide to live and settle in Thai society with Thai people, despite what their backgrounds, their races, their religions are, within 2 generations, even they preserve some aspects of their original cultures, they will be assimilated into Thai society and they will think that they are Thai or Thai with their original backgrounds. The Chinese people are the example, nearly all of Thai Chinese people recognize themselves as Thai or Thai Chinese.

Cambodia still slanders Thailand Even though throughout the past 100 years, Cambodian entertainment media and various cultural media have never been shown in Thailand. On the other hand, Cambodia has continued to receive various entertainment media from Thailand until now.

I didn't really understand the overall history of this centuries-old city even though we had our tour guide explaining it to us. Thanks, CNA for an in-depth analysis of the history of this great city. I love visiting Thailand & have met a few memorable good friends there.

Great documentary. However, the establishment of Ayuthaya by King Uthong who you regarded as a Chinese is a myth or even worse a propaganda. Similar to some historical records which proclaimed Chinese as the one who established Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Ayuthaya was a new kingdom and was not established from scratch but a peaceful integration of two ancient great kingdoms: Suphanburi (Buddhist) and Lopburi (Hindu). In ensuing years, Suphanburi lineage took control over the entire Ayuthaya. The internal politics was intense with numerous coups. It is counter intuitive that a simple Chinese merchant came to the area of many predecessor powerful ancient kingdoms and established himself as a king. Especially in a culture that bloodline power succession is a absolute must even today. Ayuthaya stands for an intersection of China as a trading partner and India as a cultural influence eg religion, language, politics, arts etc. It’s therefore one of the many trading ports of ocean Silk Road which is not new to the area since southern Thailand has traded extensively with Japan, China, India, Middle East and Roman Empire long before Ayuthaya was born. Nice piece of work but need to put this in a more comprehensive context in order to demonstrate that humanity has always been interconnected. That is what history should serve for people in a present day.

Btw at 16:47 the word "musth" is actually pronounced "mun" in Thai, the full word is tok-mun, tok means fall and mun I guess it's derived from nam-mun (meaning "oil"), so the whole meaning of tok-mun is oil falling as it's described in the video.

Naive people blinded by equally deceptive history... Ayutthaya’s image is Ayodya. The true place of king Ram. India. Everything comes from there, maybe you forgot, but history can be traced back. Bharat is the true home and King Rama was his heart. Bharat was his younger half brother. Jai Hind Jai Bharat!
