Gee thanks shug! Thought my wife was sleeping as I watch this, she rolls over giving me the stink eye and says "yeah why don't you ever bring me something back from your trips" lol. Epic trip though!
From the orbiting moose turds to the lakes and loons. The handmade music to those heavenly backwood’s treats. The reminder to occasionally “just be” and beautiful advice for the ones at home. Thank you Shug for always taking us along. Peace ✌🏼
Hard to explain to non-solo campers why I love to be alone in the wilderness but Shug is one of those who certainly shares that passion. Just to be able to lay in the hammock, enjoy the solitude that the wilderness provides (feeling the wind and sun on your face, listening to the lap of the waves, the rustle of the leaves in the trees, the call of the loon and spring peepers as the sun sets) Ahhhhhhh...to be able turn off that one part of your brain that allows you to just "BE" instead of "do". Love that video Shug!!! GORGEOUS.
Top of the morning to ya, Shug. Thx for sharing your two part video. If there is a person more in touch with his surroundings, embraces the outdoors and enjoys the wilderness experience more than you, I have yet to find him. A while back someone posted on one of your YT videos that they come here to get their Shug fix. For your followers, no further explanation is necessary. Watching your videos convinced me, a life long tent camper, to give hammock camping a try. So, I did and for the last two yrs now, I have refined my hammock camping technique, embraced it and now love it. Until your videos, I had no idea what I was missing. My goodness, I just cannot imagine a Mn trail without the Shug on it. Thx for bringing us along.
11:45 man that sound personifies a crisp morning in the boundary waters. I'm not an expert in bird calls so I don't know what bird it is, but that takes me back to nice, crisp mornings on Fishdance lake watching the sunrise and mist out on the water of the lake. Haven't been up to the BWCA since 2016 and recently moved out to Wyoming to enjoy some mountains for a bit. But the BWCA is beautiful. Thank you for making these videos so I can relive the solitude of northern Minnesota.
I spit out my water at, " ...inside they're bitter." Somedays, I don't need a laugh but watch you anyway. Other times, at the end of the day, I look forward to your videos. Its a sign of intelligence and adaptability for a person to go from Circus Clown to Hanger and Minnesota State Fair Extraordinaire. But most important to me, is that you are a mentor. A person doesn't even need to use a hammock to learn from you. Thank you. You are real class through and through.
Thankyou so much. I needed solitude in the boundary waters, i always wanted to go, & now injuries keep me close to home. You are thee best hammocker/ bushcrafter of the us👀👂👌🖒👏✊😎😊😍🏄🐱🐮🏇🏋☺🌱 & bluegrass picker, happy birthday tommy emmanuel😍😍😍👏👏👏👌👂👂👂
PAPTART,URRLEY,Pretty boil & 10hr sleep are common sayings I enjoy plus use in my everyday life that none of my friends or family understand! Haha...nothing but love Shug!
Thanks for another great trip. Went backpacking with my daughter over Memorial weekend as well. Postholing in snow in the White Mtns. Nothing zen about it . Oh well, we will look back fondly some day. Thanks for reminding me about taking care of the wife. That's what matters most !!!
Uff da! Made me a little bit home sick. Grew up in northern Minnesota and I haven't had a chance to be back in a while. Need to get back and hike some of those trails up in the BWCA. Thank You!
Shug, you and your musician friends should get together and record some music. I know I would LOVE to listen to you all play. And thank you so much for sharing so much: backpacking, music, planes, circus, instructional ... You are so talented! You are loved by so many. God bless you and your family.
Love your thoughts on being solo and enjoying the peace of nature alone. I am absolutely the same. One gets to know themselves deeply this way. Love it
At 11:06, THIS is the sound I dream about in the looooong winter nights in Québec! Probably my favorite nature sound of them all! Merci and Whooooooooo buddy!
Professor Shug. In your beautiful home state of Minnesota chilling in the twin cities on my way to Lollygag in Green Bay. I’m sure you get stuff like-a-so all the time. Thank you and ALL of the people who chills in the mock of hamm.
Well , shugs these two videos made me hang my hammock in the man cave and put your video on pause so I can enjoy the rest of my day in my man cave 😎 looking at the beautiful scenery . Once again thanks .
Perhaps my favorite pair of videos from you...you articulated many of the virtues of just “being” in nature. I’m dreaming of my June thru-hike of the Foothills Trail (SC-NC) for similar reasons, hoping I can find spots to hang near water where I, too, can be alone in the woods. The wonders Mother Nature offers us when slow down to let it all in! Your own trip looks like a soul-restoring lollygag in a beautiful locale! Glad you got away solo; thanks for sharing it from afar.
11:50 that white- throated sparrow made me laugh! I can't wait till spring to hear that "Canada" . Also, I've looked everywhere for those mosquito sticks.
I had to go back and find which brand they were. I ordered the wrong brand last time and they didn't work. I ordered the Coughlan (sp) ones last night.
Such a great follow up to your last video. Lovely scenery and solitude. Good hubs (& wives) bring home goodies! Can't get enough of Shug Vlogs when out on an adventure or just at home with the duck lol 😁 Good stuff!
What a delight. One of my favorites. Loved the music at the end, and the thoughts throughout. Wishing you good health and many more Zen moments. Cheers!
One of your best video series! Spent most of my life as a "human doing" - the past 5 years I'm practicing as a "human being." Glad to see you "being" in such a beautiful setting, Shug!
Thanks for sharing. That was an awesome camp spot. Your dinner 😘 I’m going to look them up. For my morning tea/coffee I like good old fashion gram crackers or ginger snaps.
Always love watching your videos, nice camp spot by the lake, recognize it from your trip with wandering fool. Happy belated 61 Birthday, just a year behind you. Also love Bean and the crawl, we have two Chihuahua's Mr. Mojo and Diamond, love them both. Well my wife thinks I am nuts, which I am, I got her walking around the house say all secure in sector 7 and with that have a great day and look forward to the next video. :-)
Always enjoy the BWCA- 70 here and I still don't want yme disease - I like that you give the 360* view of your campsite. Good idea with the socks. Love watching Loon's wish I could see one with a baby on it's back..now that would be special. You are doing the thing I love most.... in the woods just listening and watching ... watching clouds... that buff made me laugh... stick m up ... never been to Jordy's High-Hat... always just drove on by ... I'll have to stop by sometime. May have to delay mowing the lawn in that area till eggs hatched. Nice way to wrap up an enjoyable video with the sounds of music 🎵🎵 🎸
“Less time doing, and more time being...” It’s the very principle that guides me while canoe-tripping in the BW. I see so many people on a mission to gobble up the miles, as many miles as possible, breaking camp in the dark and setting up camp at sunset, like that’s the point. In my mind, the point of going to the wilderness is to dissipate the accumulated tensions and nonsense; to re-calibrate my vibe, as it were. So, for me, there is a balance to be struck; sometimes, I paddle; sometimes, I sit by the water’s edge and just watch.
Shug, you make us all feel like we're right there next to you by that beautiful lake... After all the snow look how beautiful everything is... Hope you have an amazing summer 🏞️🏞️🤗🤗!!
Hej Shug; I really can feel you, sitting in tihs great Spot, just BEEING. You really do it right! I try to copy your way in this case, because it is just RIGHT! Also just laying on the ground, just feeling the ground, the nature and also the fauna... Just so RIGHT. And enjoying a Knoppers, one of my favorite (local, german) Snacks, is just so pleasing. (Bitte, gerne!*) *since it is german and not italian (prego[italian]) Since I don't plan on going on a Trip to the US (Minnessota) it's not goining to happen, neither going on a planned hike with you, nor an accidential meetup... But sure enough, I would love to do both! ;-) Thank you so much to take us (me) with you on this trip! And even more thank you for pointing out the fact to don't forget the ones you left behind on a trip on your own, and appriciate it by bringing a little gift back to your love'd ones. So appriciatable! Best regards from Germany, Sascha
When initially planned my BWCA trip this year...I intended on getting out and covering some miles in the canoe....but instead I too just enjoyed "being" on lake two, watching groups of people navigate the portage- it was quite entertaining in many cases. I sat under my CCS tarp, read a paperback, and listened to the loons as they circled the little island I was camped on:-).
Sean, I can't say enough of how much you've enriched my experience in MN. We're headed to Seattle in a couple months. Just couldn't hang with this weather anymore. Your remarks about doing vs. being are so nice right now. Come over to Como and say hi during a show. I'm doing sound. Last time I saw you was at your fair show a few years back. Cheers, broseph!
Great presentation Shug. I’ve got several family photos from that “ sitting Rock”. My uncle was a MD in Eli most of his life. Great fishing around their also. Thanks much Terry&ThePirates
That looks like a blast. It's awesome that you like that Eldorado hammock because I just bought it with the Superfly during the Memorial Day sale. Gonna spend a week in it during a Fergus Falls family reunion!
