Needed to get back to the woods so headed up to do the Snowbank Trail to Disappointment Loop in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. A challenge of a walk. Whooooooo Buddy)))))) Shug www.gordys-hihat.com
You have an AMAZING outlook and example!! I appreciate that you seem to live who you are. good guy!!!!!!!!! Keep on keepin on!!!!!!!!!! Love your passion!! You express it in all you show!! Inspiring!! Thanks Shug!!! Music is Soul touching!!!
Every time I hear the word early, I immediately repeat EARLY!!! Shug I've been following you for so many years. You're a light to the world. Woooooo Buddy!
Shug...i really really enjoyed this hike and video...so calm and beautiful....love to see you out there alone but enjoying yourself...although i will say...i was swatting at the flies and skeeters around ya buddy! You are awesome! Just a big thank you.
Shug really like the pictures of the flowers , flora , & wildlife! Keep it up really enjoy all of the green & color you video , I live in the southwest desert!!🤓😵💫😎
Your ok shug, your sillyer than me. You still flying your planes. Man when I was younger I had so much fun flying those planes in the school yard and my grampas field. When I see you flying, it brings back good memories.❤❤
Big change in temperature from hot and humid to cooler and rain shows how prepared you are with clothing and kit. Thanks Shug for allowing us to tag along. 👍
Watched your hammock vids years ago and was reunited w/ your jovial persona on the Backpacking Radio podcast. So, totally had to watch your circus vid - impressive life story and it was great to hear you talk about it so openly on the podcast. Have had a few friends paddle the BWCA and my take was, I might like to backpack around those lakes if that's a thing. So now I know! Nice "real" backpacking video. Big thanks to you Shug, I bought a Warbonnet Blackbird after watching your videos (circa 2011) and still use it when trail conditions are right. I have been singing the Blackbird praises for year- sweet hanging hammock and yes, great to sit back and sip a cup of Joe in the morning. Hope to hang in the BWCA one day. Side note, also a Sean here and mother's maiden name is Shaughnessy ("O" was dropped at Ellis Island). Highland Way is on the bucket list! Ok, now on to part two.
Shug, your adventures take me to my most favorite state and places! Your passion for the outdoors is contagious! God bless you for making these videos! I can’t wait to get back to the north woods soon! Be safe! Best wishes!😀🙏🏻
Sweet shot of those Loons! Man I think the Carribou Rock Trail is calling my name! Don't know why , this video just made me think of it. Thanks brother!
When you spoke about the punk sticks and the bugs, I saw your Aura. It was like a Bob Ross painting, Prussian Blue, Yellow Ochre, Cyan, and Magic White (could be Zinc Oxide). gonnaseemaplekingnowokbye
I hiked that loop 50+ years ago. The only thing that didn’t change was the rock. All the big trees are gone. Time.... thanks for sharing. Terry&ThePirates
Shug, just driving away from Ely. We camped on Ensign just north of Snowbank. R&R weekend trip. We had a blast, rocked the Eno and Chrysalis. I also brought that Off fan and it kept the skeeters at bay! Be good Shug and thanks!
This was a very nice and calming video Shug, I just finally upgraded to the Dutchware Chameleon with the Warbonnet Underquilt and it has completely transformed a good nights sleep after 7 years of sleeping in a Hennessy Hammock. I added a Tensa4 stand as well for my motorcycle trips and it's just pure bliss when I get to set up camp anywhere. Thanks to you for all the great videos explaining everything.
Love seeing this Shug! I spent half the summer on Snowbank in 1999 working at Jackpine Lodge (no longer there). I cleaned many many lake trout that summer. Took a few canoe campers over to Disappointment portage. Amazing country in them parts 😀
That 1st foggy morning at the lake I was hoping to see Nessie swimming around. Maybe she did and you're keeping the secret safe ; ) Wooo Buddy 40 degree mornings are far off for me. Good stuff
Nice one Mr E. IMO that black BB cap is you ! Hate losing trail while solo . After one scary night lost off trail, I always carry 5 bright fluorescent, shocking pink ribbons. I do not use them everytime I lose the trail , but if I have tried a couple of directions and still not found it , especially in a area that all looks the same I do !!! I tie them on 4 corners of a tree that is on the trail , and circle around looking for the trail ALWAYS keeping at least one ribbon in sight . When I find the trail I tie a 5th one to a tree there . They weigh nothing and having made my lost trail times much less stressful !! In a group , always leave one person ON the trail while others look !! Been many places where there have been lost hiker(s) , Whites , LVG , Pictured Rocks , MNF, RMNP etc etc . It is very easy to do . May take the kids advice and get one of them newfangled Garmin things .Stay safe , now let me C.O maple King :D bg
Shug, your video has answered one of the most asked questions... Question: Why do loons have such an odd _(some would say haunting)_ call? Answer : If you were swarmed with gnats and mosquitoes, you'd sound like that too.
Just what I needed to watch this morning. I've hiked up in the mountains and it's good your using the zinc - - better safe than sorry - - that's just the look of someone enjoying the outdoors. Thanks for the ride along🎪
@@shugemery your right it does - when I was in the mountain's the only thing that got sunburnt was the part of my scalp that wasn't covered by my scarf - - next time I'll wear a hat
that rock was pretty cool..it looked like a face on the left side..that area looks so cool..great trip report...when low miles are challenging you turn in early..
As always I enjoy your videos Shug and as a fellow introvert it makes it easier to relate to the way you see things. I've been meaning to thank you for a while now for entertaining me twice when you were with the circus, there's nothing like the circus in the world these days.😔
I attempted that loop about 15 years ago on July 4th. I pulled a few dozen ticks off my shoes and socks in one sitting. The trail was completely overgrown and I lost the trail and fell in a hole. Combined with a log freshly ripped apart by a bear, heavy equipment, and 90° temps, I pulled the cord after night 1. I'm surprised I ever backpacked again.
Nice little adventure happening there. Spreading the gospel a bit. A young man I know is graduating from high school, and will be receiving a tarp/hammock/bug net, and an alcohol stove, to get him pointed in the right direction (out of doors and sleeping properly while camping)… and I'll send him a link to a good RU-vid channel on how to use the stuff.
As the Saying goes here , Be with you in Two Ticks and that means......... Early !!! Another great trip always like the tarp lazy mans water collection delightfully watery :)
@@shugemery Is the chocolate still indecently thick? There was a chocolate mint Club too, might have been called Golf. You just can't beat biscuit based nostalgia.
I thought I'd pass along this recipe since you're the guy that got me into liking PackIt Gourmet. I tried that Poblano Corn Chowder BUT added a small container of the Phillips Crab meat from the store which turns it into the best seafood bisque! Oh man that was so good!
Here in Pennsylvania we dont get those kind of treats. I averaged about 1.74 my last hike and I thought I'd be up around 2 miles an hour lol. You are one entertaining fellow! Cant wait to camp this weekend .
I love everything about this video. Heck of a wolf call. I noticed you also ha e that little insect card hanging above your hammock. Looks like you're using everything lol what a lovely place. And chocolate/orange....winning combination. Gonna check out Hickory's site. Thanks so much!!
Hey shug could you do a video on where you get your food for your trips sometime or a list of your favorite meals to bring with you. Thanks for your great kid friendly content!! My family and I are sending you a big Woo Buddy!!
@@shugemery Shug this is my part 2 of 3 series for my 215 mile SHT hike if you have the time to watch. I loved your Boundary Waters videos that you just did and I'm looking forward to your next adventure :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h5RqF_BGH-E.html
Such a beautiful place 😍😍😍😍 Thanks again for another amazing video 😊! PS: I went back on the video and couldn't see anything on your face, but even if it was there, you're still awesome 👍👍🤘🤘!!
Pocket Bacon? YES!!! I've tried some of the other no refrigeration bacon, but it still wants to be added to a sandwich or cooked up a little. The bacon you brought on this trip looks like ready to eat Pocket Bacon! The wonders never cease. I'll definitely be trying out some maple bacon on my next trip. I'd enjoy a peppered bacon like that, I hope they make that too.
shugemery : I took a look at the Jack Links website and they have a 'Hickory' smoked bacon and an 'EARLY' (AM) 'Maple King' Bacon!! ...How can they not send you a case to promote in your videos?!?! I think you should send them an email and ask for some promotional samplers. I never knew this product existed before seeing it in your video. I think they'd certainly benefit (as would you) from a strategically shipped box of bacon to the Lord of Lolligag to enjoy during breakfast from the hammock. 🥓
Thanks for slipping us into your pouch. I really enjoyed being out in nature, even if it was from my armchair. Don't worry about the zink oxide Shug. We're used to the clown in you showing through. By the way, I don't think you have to worry about attracting any wolves with that wolf call. We've been getting tons of rain here in your old stomping grounds. Some of our trees are looking like they're going to topple over. The good news is we now have lake front property. As always, really enjoyed riding along with you.
hey since ur campin in the heat now ,cmon 2 sc the breeze here keeps the bugs at bay,id luv 2 take u shrimpin shug,ur always welcome at the welty house here in sc,thanks 4 the vid
Another interesting and entertaining video Shug! On one of your interior shots I saw an orange square something hanging from your ridgeline. It had numerous holes shaped like stars in it. What in the blue blazes is that?
Glad you mentioned the bugs, I would have packed up and gone home at the first sight of them, can't handle the bitey little fellas - or ladies to be politically correct. You get extra macho points for sticking it out 👍👍
Beautiful, thank you. On the subject of the Club biscuit I have to say I am disappointed. When they were made by Jacob's their slogan was "If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit, join our Club!" - accompanied by a bouncy tune in the adverts. Now they are owned by McVities the "lot of chocolate" part seems to have gone out of the window. Shameful! Phew, glad I got that off my chest 😊👍
