Merriweather Post Pavilion is one of my favorite albums of all time, and My girls is one of my favorite songs of all time, been a fan of AC since at least 2006 and finally got to see them live a couple years ago and it was amazing.
You understood Also Frightened perfectly! This album on psychedelics is mind altering ngl If you wanna try another Animal Collective album, do Strawberry Jam next.
Hey, thanks for listening!! Glad to see you enjoyed some of the songs here. I'd have to agree with you that the album is a bit front-loaded, but don't give up on the second half; while it is definitely more exotic sounding, the songwriting is still top notch. Thanks again for checking it out :)
wow the part where he sings 'why' on the chorus of Bluish is actually what makes the track for me, imo best part of the entire album. funny how different opinions on art can be
I knew plenty of people from high school who dug this one. It was kind of the millennial “Sgt. Pepper’s”. Trust me when I say that I’m not the first one to make this comparison. While I do kinda agree with you on the repetition, this was done with the vibe of hippie electronic dance festivals in mind. Also, if you’ve actually ever done a deep dive into Daft Punk’s albums (who were a big influence on Animal Collective, and one of the members Panda Bear even did a collab track with them), then you’d find them using repetition even more extreme than what Animal Collective employ here. I always saw the ending of “Brothersport” as kind of a nod to the ending of “Too Long” by Daft Punk, which was also the last song on their album “Discovery”. As for the acid, well, they’re a psychedelic band. This is actually one of their most accessible albums. And artists in the 60’s were making all kinds of weird music, so this isn’t much different than that.
If you want a very similarly psychedelic, but also very folky album, I would suggest trying out Crumbling by Mid-Air Thief. They're an artist from South Korea and this album of theirs had gotten a lot of attention from Bandcamp and other music sites when it dropped. Highly suggest it! :)
I'm really enjoying all the music you are reacting to. Some recommendations: Sufjan Stevens - Come on Feel the Illinoise! A really good indie album from the 2000s Since you listened to Sigur Ros I would definitely recommend Takk. In my opinion it's their most accessible album. Bjork - Homogenic or Vespertine. Probably my favorite female artist. From Iceland just like Sigur Ros is.
Awesome animal collective reaction! I think you should give Guys Eyes and Taste a couple more listens. They have a lot of layers and the hooks and catchy parts occur in how the layers overlap. A big part of what makes animal collective great is songs that didn‘t resonate initially revealing themselves to be absolute earworms upon further listening. I‘d recommend you check out the album Black Up by Shabazz Palaces. It‘s like if Animal Collective was hip hop and a little more accessible to the modern hip hop sounds pallet.
Hi!! I love your videos and I was wondering if you could react to Lsd and the search for god, it’s a Shoegaze album. My personal favorite song on the album is starting over!
Taste is not about whats physically around you shaping what you are, psychedelics show you that reality is a mirror, its always reshaping from the inside out. Synchronicity. Mind and the world agreeing.
Nice video! If you're looking for more recommendations, check out Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Cheers!
Throw both of my recommendations out the window, M83’s Dead cities, Red seas and Lost Ghosts. And then you should check out a manwolves or laundromat record! There stuff is really good!
