+Zodiac7649 dudes in the front heard it before it was released:) and actually I liked the song much better without the MGMG-like drop tho this is hardly a flawless version. I absolutely loved it when I heard it live and then they made it too dancey for me on the album. the part from 4:57 is pretty much flawless.
Yeah I know (since this concert was like 2 years[?] before that album released). I was just referring to how their jumping kinda looked like they were expecting that build-up to lead into a huge drop, but once it mellowed out, they stopped like "Oooookay, nevermind." lol. That's just how it appeared though. And yeah, I agree. Although I love the album version, I like how this version keeps that steady orchestral kind of vibe; its relaxing as fuck lol.
This kind of music you have to feel inside. When u not feeling it, u think it sucks. The people in the audience feel it, you can see it on their faces, and they start to dance a little with it. I love this kind of music, because I feel it inside me :)
New to Animal Collective but their work is growing on me as I listen to them more. Love so much this performance, these mans have such a strong passion for music and a unique musical langage, this is a work of art !!
I have a particular fondness for these videos. The first time I ever heard these songs back 07. Still sing the old set of lyrics sometimes too. If you want to hear the album live put on your headphones, if you want to see something different and mindblowing see them live. This is when the material was fresh and new to them, Panda is still using 303s there, no lightshow either. I love hearing the barebones of their songs, fuckin amazes me how they build them in studio.
No, man they kept it like this, I saw them on the tour for Merryweather Post Pavillion and they just don't drop the bass. I don't know why, but they don't drop the bass for live versions of my girls.
@@krusher181 I think the sound of that album has a lot to do with the co-producer they brought in, Ben H. Allen, who had a background in hip hop. The band said they brought him in specifically to help with the low end. So that probably had an influence on the discrepancies between the studio and live versions.
i think people's comments are too harsh on the crowd. this was a new song at the time, no one had heard it before. it's hard to get into a song and just start dancing and shit when it's the first time you've ever heard it and don't know the structure, especially with a band like this.
honestly, it sounds great, having listened to the studio version first, i can sing to it and it sounds like them and they are putting feeling into it so whats the problem lol
I'm gonna have to disagree with all people saying they aren't good at playing this live, or it sounds shitty live. I think it sounds good. It doesn't sound as energetic, but it's still good. REAL damn good. REAL FUCKING GOOD.
@MillaHead The album was released in 2009, but the album was recorded a year before it came out. Plus, bands tend to play new songs live before they come out on disc
Everyone enjoys a show in their own way. I've been crazy as shit and as calm as shit on different shows, it just depends of the moment, doesn't mean i'm not having fun or i'm trying to get attention. Just enjoy the music.
I think it sounds good. Their songs aren't easily recreated live, for one...two, why would you want to hear a band play the song exactly the way they do on an album? I like when bands bring something else to it or perform a song in a different way.
man thats the second time i got a cool reply from someone under this video. thanks for the perspective. im usually impressed with the europeans i meet. they seem to have their feet planted. that could explain the vibe in this crowd here. plant footed.
@Rael0505 The group have not done drugs since recording Strawberry Jam, and that album was completed before this show. As for "the guy with the drumsticks", he's just good ol' eccentric Avey, who never played high since 2004. It's easy to see why many would call this a poor performance but I got so familiar with this version of the song that I was initially disappointed by its MPP re-working. The instrumentals here are minimal and you sort of mentally implant your own block-rocking beat.
@midouespeon they wouldn't have been able to hear the "studio" version of the song because this concert predated MPP, so this was honestly probably the first time any of them had ever heard it.
They’re awesome. But most of the crowd is just lame. I’m impressed. This is an amazing live performance. But maybe I’m just biased bc I love them 😍 & this song!
He is playing drums in a literal sense but he is hardly laying down a rhythm. It's two hits and a cymbal crash. No reason to sit down without a kick drum.
yeah knuckleheads. well put. i do need to broaden my scope with wide travel. i have seen all of america but only have montreal and toronto to compare it to, but i gotta say, those are the two best north american cities.
smshah232 there's a bunch of stuff they don't add until later when they come to recording. This was about a year before they recorded the song in the studio. They added the bass line at that point I guess.
I thought I'd wait a year before replying, to signify the year gap between this video and the recording of the song. it's very deep and meaningful of me.
@Rael0505 If you wanna know what AC look like when on drugs then just look up a few of their pre-2004 concerts on RU-vid, most notably a hilarious rendition of "Essplode" that was done in 2001. And I don't know if they do "heavy" drugs. Salvia and a few psychedelic meds were their poison and Panda was experimenting with morphine back in 2004 or so but otherwise, they've grown up. And this set would be a mess when not played with a sober mind.
OK I've seen enough vids of my girls and i see the same thing. The vocals on the studio version are way to processed to reproduce live and most importantly there is a lack of bass and depth which are the main things that bring the songs to life. I'll love the lyrics no matter what.
wow, like if i took an acordian a triangle and some drums down to the basement with two buddies, i could have 75,000 views on youtube I guess. this was crummy, yo!
@WheresPoochie Haha I made a mistake of calling psychedelics heavy, for that I apologize. I'd honestly say this set was a mess whether they're on drugs or not, though. Love their studio stuff, not so much their live stuff. Sorry man, but I just can't believe they're not on anything for this show.
