I love every animal crossing game. From the gamecube, through wild world for the ds, city folk for the wii, and new leaf for the 3ds. I really enjoyed New Horizons for the Switch too. But what about the worst parts? / rocketelijah
dont remind me of that and my wasted 200€ on buying a second switch just to have another island... sigh... nintendo is always more greedy than before :(
Biggest gripe with New Leaf was having no control on where new villagers built their house. Can't count how many gardens and trees got bulldozed when someone moved in
Not so honorable mentions : ACNH taking what feels like 69 billion years to load, being forced to take duplicate DIY/cooking recipes from villagers, GOLDEN TOOLS BREAKING, the inability to bulk buy Nook Miles tickets or whatever you want, Kapp'n not letting you go on mystery islands more than once a day, the Dodo Airlines dialogue when hunting for villagers.
the dodo airlines just k1ll me every time lol I feel like acnh has so much dialogue (repetition), I mean, im playing this for 3 years I THINK I know some things 🙃
I can’t believe they took the most unpopular feature of the new Zelda games (tools and weapons breaking) and applied it to AC… it’s impossible for them not to be aware of player feedback in this. But sort of typical of Nintendo tbf. They just double down on awful features that ruin the gaming experience. It’s been like this for decades and there are many over examples of that happening
FINALLY someone mentions the insane time nh takes to load every time, like new leaf took 10 seconds and nh feels like a minute or 2, plus the stupid trash unskipable isabelle announcements
@@MiguelLand-de5vg it’s so unbearably long. I try to avoid entering any building when I play. I just leave all my tools laid on the floor of the main map. The worse aspects of this is in the museum. It has so many separate rooms for each category and you have the long waiting time in between each room; as a result, you never check out the exhibits which reduces your motivation to fish, look for bugs or fossils because you never actually go through the museum. I mean, just if you want to look at the whole aquarium section of the museum you have to go through 5 successive loading screens
I think my biggest issue with ACNH is you can't terraform the mouths of the rivers so you can't put them where you want and you can't move the plaza. So if you don't like your options in the beginning, you have to keep resetting until you get something you liked.
@@Hamter_mental_counselingimma be real with you, I don't mind the dialogue in NH. There's a lot of fun things I never read before popping up all the time. I've been playing nearly daily since the game came out and I STILL see new dialogue. Yeah, if you have multiple of the same personality it's repetitive on some days (especially happy home score day), but honestly it doesn't detract from the game as much as everyone whines about. Even over 1400+ hours there is still fresh dialogue. Yeah they aren't as realistic as the OG AC but they're still fun to talk to when you have tons of different personalities.
rapidly pressing through sooooo many unnecessary dialogue trees to do ANYTHING is so frustrating. #1 feature I wish we had was the ability to build more npc shops instead of having them separate on harvs island
It was the terraforming / decorating that did me in for ac:nh. I still play it but I don't do much in terms of decorating or terraforming these days. There was so much focus on just that alone and I understand allowing that freedom to do whatever you want to your island but man, I missed the very slow, stress free grind of New Leaf. I hope whatever happens with the future of the series, they get a better balance between the two.
Unlikely given the new player base that seems to be more interested in customization than actually understanding what made this game great in the first place. Now it’s just another sandbox game a la Minecraft.
New leaf is more stressful compared to new horizons for me. Basically I'm not playing to only have fun, I'm playing to make sure no one leaves without me knowing. I'm playing so I don't lose my perfect fruit trees due to someone wanting to move on them.
City folk is my favorite ac game! Its so nostalgic but also has so much character lore, random content, and the city was always fealt special to visit.the city theme song is so nostalgic and was so happy to see the song animal city in nh.the cover art for that album is so precious!i literally have it hanging up on my wall lol
Me too! I’m one of the weird few who likes City Folk too! I know a lot of people say it’s just a DS port of Wild World, but it did have more. The city was so fun, emotes, kicks, Redd having a secret shady shop, CREDIT CARDS, and the list goes on. I just loved it so much!
I didn't own DS so Let's Go To The City (PAL version of City Folk) was a great game for me. I really don't understand the haters but I refuse to play Wild World so it does't ruin my Wii experience of Animal Crossing. 😅
There are some other shortcomings with ACNH. 1. Crafting one item at a time is SO frustrating, especially when mass crafting bait, medicine, etc. 2. Friends not being able to help terraform or move things on your island. There should be separate levels of permission to your island: you can make someone a visitor, where they can’t interact with anything on your island except for picking up and dropping loose items that weren’t originally placed before they got there, or they can be a member, where they can move items, etc, or they can be an operator, where as long as they have unlocked the terraform option on their own world, they can terraform with you.
when i played wild world as a kid my mom would sometimes play ONLY to pull the many many weeds in my town, the occasional surprise to a weed-free town was so nice
The worst part about New Horizons, to me, is the complete missed opportunity to have been able to terraform together, and allow friends to move things to speed up projects.
I will probably never understand why so many people are nostalgic for Wild World. I started with the original and played it excessively for 2 years and when WW came out I remember being bored so fast. I bought it again before the WiiU Shop shut down but got bored after a month. Anyway, I agree that City Folk deserves way more love. Personally, I think that it's a wonderful game, the biggest issue I had next to being worried about grass deterioration was the motion controls itself. Those are the reason I barely go back 😅
I prefer City Folk over Wild World in my opinion for similar reasons. Yes the grass deterioration is an issue at times but that hasn’t been as bad for me since I use paths throughout my town and try to regularly plant flowers and trees to manage it. And the controls I’ve gotten used to, I use my nunchuk most of the time instead of pointing at the screen. Definitely a very underrated AC game
For me WW was my first game and the only one I had for years. Once I finally got City Folk, I wasn’t impressed because it was too similar to WW besides the city
@@PhoenixRoseYT To be honest, I agree. I tried going back to the game just to see the amount of dialogue in it but the reason I end up not playing it much is because there is barely anything to do in the game.
@@PhoenixRoseYT That‘s my issue, too. No holidays, nothing. It gets so boring so fast and there’s nothing really to look forward to. When I first got the game I expected all the holidays and events from the original and then it’s all flea markets and compliment days.
Resetti reminds me of that one time that I was trying to swat a wasp dead and it came after me and the 3DS slid off the arm of the recliner and reset my game and then I incurred the wrath of resetti who didn't believe me that the console fell while trying to swat a wasp that was trying to come after me. Still, resetti on the gamecube version was on a whole new level though. Like I'm sure gamecube resetti had little kids legit terrified. The disconnect during multiplayer in new horizons, there was one time that really haunted me back in 2020 or 2021, I had 8 people over and someone's power went out and disconnected them and reset everything and we all came out of the airport confused to find that Celeste (who people were over to get recipes from) had just... disappeared, I literally had everyone leave, shut my gates, find her and then reopen with warp pipes leading to her in addition to checking the items that people left on the plaza.
My sister threw my DS against a chair when I was about 8 or 9. The top half tore completely off. That was probably my worst Animal Crossing experience.
We had a full town of four on City Folk back in the day on the family Wii, and the grass situation was so bad that it was difficult to make snowmen in the Winter.
I would always leave my DS in the sleep mode without saving or whatever it's called (Where it just turns the screen off) and I wouldn't save but it would die while in the sleep mode Then I wasn't even scared of Mr. Resetis behavior, I was just scared of the way he would pop out the ground, so I would start the game and cover my eyes and ears till I was sure that he was already out of the ground.
When I was a kid I got grounded off my DS and forced my parents to log in to Wild World for me to pick the weeds until I got it back. Shoutout to them fr. The OGs will never forget the pain of picking a town full of weeds 🤝🏼
What I don't like in NL: Grass deterioration. I have so many ugly patches in my town. I never run, hardly even walk, I actually make my character sneak in order to lessen the impact... The update I'm dying for the most, is for NL, to remove that feature altogether or at least lessen it. Yeah, I know that will never happen, but that was the one thing I didn't like about ACNL. Well, that and that villagers could just pop in if they wanted to, and they only did so if I was doing something, like decorating. What I don't like in ACNH: that we can't make bulk purchases at the Able sister's shop. If I want 3 different shirts I have to enter the booth 3 times, and that's unnecessarily annoying and time consuming. That we can't bulk craft. Villagers just popping by. I wish we could lock the door. As it is, I often make a bee line for one of the rooms not adjacent to the door and just play not at home if I'd rather continue doing what I'm doing instead. It's nice they come by when I'm not busy, but I wish we had a choice. What I miss in NH: I wish we could do more with the villagers, like play hide and seek, I always liked that in NL. Other games have disappeared as well. Visitors at the camp site in NL would sometimes suggest a game where you had to buy one of five items from them and the price would rise for each item you rejected. it was rare they had anything particularly interesting, but it was still fun. And I miss Tortimer's island with its mini games and the possibility of making a small fortune on the valuable fish and bugs. I miss the sign outside the museum in NL that lists all the donations. Especially helpful when Redd visits.
0:48 okay, no, we can all agree that the whole autosave feature is not something that we can specifically use to say "game = bad" because ALL games used to not use autosave for the longest time, (hence, "autosave not being invented yet") and that doesn't take away from the actual game itself. Any old game (and honestly some new games still) can and will have progress wiped if you forgot to save (as is the whole existence and necessity of saving the game in the first place). Game is still good even if you have to manually save the game, it's just a pain in the ass for us adhd gamers who forget to charge devices or just saving the game in general if distracted enough lmao 😂😅 /Lh
I still remember back in the days in Wild World.. people did SELL services like removing the weeds from your town for you for bells. It was so annoying, that it created jobs for kids who then were ripping out weeds from random town for bells as payment lol. It was so wild back in the days seeing this.
8:54 back when we played ww, my friends and i used to help each other out with the chore. one would invite the other and chill at the same time. If it was through online connection, we would talk on the phone while weeding everything out, but sometimes we would even have hangouts irl. the rule was that whoever had called for help would give the other a gift. my friends used to gain bells exceptionally well (and fast) and they always treated me to something nice or rare. we were just kids! good times
I remember getting my cider for New Year in ACNL and my character immediately tripped and spilled it. I waited a whole year to see what it actually did
I use treasure island in ANCH and the amount of time i've been kicked from islands because someone disconnected or didn't leave properly is insane. Having to go back and get everything again is so tedious.
17:00 a way they could fix this is for the Menu to be a ‘form’ you fill out. He has a clipboard *right there* that he could pick up and hold out to you, causing you to ‘think’ and then pull up the menu.
I've played every animal crossing mainline game (Except GCN because despite owning a Wii my parents never got it for me. Also the game is older then me.) I grew up with both Wild World and City Folk at the same time. I was very young at the time, like 6-8 when I played both those games. Even as a little kid I recognized how similar these two games were, and actually HIGHLY preferred City Folk because 1. It had the City. And 2. It was prettier. I want to make a note, I didn't even know grass deteration was a thing in this game until long after I stopped playing regularly. Granted I didn't even know you could press a button to run faster for a very long time. Listen hyper accessible internet acess in your pocket was just not a common thing in the 2000s. If I wanted to go online I had to ask permission to go on the shitty windows vista family desktop. I had absolutely no idea of serveal basic features of animal crossing let alone the gerneral consensus of the games. Even if I had known about grass deteroration I don't think I would've cared at that age. I didn't care about having my town be pretty. I was playing because I loved hunting down rare bugs and fish, and paying off my debt for a bigger house, as well as talking to villagers. I didnt give a shit about how pretty my town was, at all. I didn't even know that was a thing people cared about. To give you an idea of just how little I knew about the online AC community, I didn't know tarantulas were a bug that 1. Existed. 2. Could harm you. I got so freaked out when one bit me for the first time I developed a legitimate phobia of playing the game at night. Plus, When my parents told me you could catch sharks in this game I thought it was a rumor, because in the little time I had been online, I had already fallen for online rumors before. (Webkinz killer, Waluigi in SM64DS, Nintendogs can have puppies etc.) I think a combination of childhood ignorance, lack of easily accessible internet, and maybe even rose tinted nostalgia goggles is why as a kid I growing up with both WW and CF I highly preferred CF.
they could have easily fixed the "someone left" situation during online play, by makibg them listen to Resetti four hours.. could have been a perfect scenario to bring back his original features, fould have taught obnoxious players a lesson, could ha e save everyone from frustration.
I remember going to other people's towns online in the old games to pull their weeds for them, and they'd pay me for it 😆 I liked picking them though, it was kinda zen
it's always so curious seeing both the perspective for those who are used to AC New Horizons VS for those who are used to the older games. like, there are possibilities of one side complaining about something that the other side like or vice versa.
Not going to go through all the comments here, so if it's repetitive I apologize. CF's grass deterioration was applied on *every single log-in*, so if you had a family island the grass took a hit with EACH player logging in to do daily play. We had four active people on our island and it turned into a sandy wasteland on large parts of it because of the daily compounded deterioration. It was a mess.
9:11 I think New Horizons deserves way more hate than City Folk. It turned the franchise into a customization game, when it’s supposed to be a life sim. It also cut tons of features.
I don’t usually use the new horizons online because wean online is on Wasps tarantulas scorpions are disabled and they’re very good source of money There is like 75% or 50% less fish and bugs And balloons coming to your island are disabled And you can’t redecorate your island or change your house when people are in your village
New Horizons- No in game clock and auto save. When I start a game for the first time the clock gets set 4 hours behind and the date stays the same. Late night player that doesn't like missing late afternoon things. Changing the clock on the console doesn't work for someone that doesn't time travel and plays games that will mess up your game. Disney Dreamlight Valley time travel is a huge issue. Auto save has caused issues with players closing their game and having to download the game again. I prefer to save after catching a hard to get bug or having the host save after trading. The only reason for duping and time traveling didn't stop players. There are Treasure Islands that have duped items. Tools breaking in New Horizons was time consuming to craft. I think early game I spent more time crafting than playing the game. No rental tools on the island tours was a big disappointment. Gold tools are suppose to be something special that you get after completing bug, fish, perfect town, and slingshot. With crafting added those are no longer special. Breaking gold tools what were the Devs thinking.
With New horizons my only big issue is actually more about how the switch deals with multiplayer. Like id love to do online only activities without paying a subscription 😭
When I was a kid and playing Wild World I would time travel so I could get a ton of Bells into my account and pay off all my debts. But I also, understandably, got overrun with weeds. I dealt with it for a while but then got sick of it and eventually plucked all the weeds! I don't know why weed plucking was so tedious in that game in comparison to like, New Leaf or New Horizons.
Can u Please give me advice so I never backed up my animal crossing world and I lost my animal crossing disc for a month I got it back and I lost all my items and my furniture and my money and all my clothes so I was yeah please help me get it
20:30 solution: let hosts manually save and continue the online play normally as it has ALWAYS BEEN A FEATURE IN EVERY OTHER ANIMAL CROSSING GAME. Im not kidding, before autosave was a thing, hosts could manually do a save and continue while playing online, even back in city folk, but now that there is autosave we cant do that anymore and instead depend on the shitty autosave and pray that it doesnt autosave in the worst possible moment? how hard would have it been to implement manual host saving like in older games? It was a really cool feature back when new leaf had online (R.I.P) but now theres nothing. Great nintendo, you always taking the worst possible decisions. P.D. Nintendo Switch Online is trash :P
The worst part of new horizons for me is new horizons. Its my least favorite animal crossing game 😢 and i hate that i hate it but i dont like how different it is from the other games. I want to like it tho i really do
I think the worst thing about new leaf is the lack of character customisation. If you’re not white you really have no way to make your character look like you except for using miis or tanning in the sun for hours
New Horizons Online Play was horrible. I didn't like how the game forces you to wait 1 or 2 mins for someone to come to the island or leave. I prefer the online system of the older Animal Crossing games. I enjoyed playing online in New Leaf before the 3DS online servers shut down. I wish Nintendo would upgrade the online system in New Horizons. I do like Wild World too but I easily get bored of it since there isnt that much to do in the game. I'm looking foward to playing the Original Animal Crossing and City Folk. I've only played Wild World, New Leaf and New Horizons.
I want them to bring back the dump police station and Sahara car wash from the original gullivers space ship from wild world shampoodles kicks the retail shop and Brewsters from a few other games the wishing well gifts the raffle at Tom nooks Gracie grace fashion shop Leif’s shop and the mini games on the islands from new leaf
Hello Rocket Elijah my name is Isaiah and I have something important to say to you. God loves you and like any father he wants to help you and keep you safe especially from the devil. But I am not just speaking to you about this I am also talking to your fans about this. God loves you all and the Lord wants us to put our trust in him. Do not be afraid to come to the Lord. For his love is for evreyone. Shalom Shalom.
Wisp does NOT take up the slot of one of the visiting characters in Hew Horizons. So he's completely optional and does not negatively impact your game in any way. Stop spreading misinformation! 👻
Hot take! I smell the boo’s already. I think acnh is my least favorite. Here is why. I play animal crossing for the goofiness of the villagers, and I also play just for certain special characters. ACNL takes the gold for me always It wasn’t my first animal crossing which is shocking to a lot of people despite my age. But acnl wins just because villagers are so goofy to me there
The worst part about new leaf is when villagers leave without telling you. Sometimes they can even stay/leave despite what you say to them. Or when they can can crush your perfect fruit by moving in. How is this game relaxing? Also i remember when playing wild world for the first time and saw how bare the town looked. So i restarted fresh and there was hardly any grass... I do miss the microphone though because my villagers love to hide in new horizons. Also he seems to give me stuff I thought I already had. And wisp seems to be annoying in both games. Especially when he kept bugging me about a feature that I could use at that time.
