Been doing these for a couple years now sith a slightly different technique. Using 2 or 3 strands of worsted weight yarn and size J hook & start with 6 rather than 8 sc into ring, increases are done the same. When reaching required diameter we build up the sides until twice as tall as needed, then roll sides down to make it more sturdy. My Stitch Group friends and I donate these in various sizes to animal rescue centers in Florida. They line them with paper toweling for bird, kitten, puppy, squirrel, etc rescues
I have a suggestion to make the sides of the bed stand up better: On the first row of the side, work sc into the front loop (the side of the "v" of the stitch that is facing you as you work). That way the sides will lean inward more quickly. Then do a sc into each stitch for the rest of the side.
Thank you so much for this pattern. All your tutorials are wonderful! I have some yarn that I ended up not liking for the project I wanted to do, and it will be perfect for this. I don't have a dog or cat either, so will make a couple for the animal shelter near me for the upcoming winter. Cats will be cozy!
thank you for the pattern to follow but I did a little something different.. When I was ready to start the row where you go up to make the basket.. I did only the front loop.. or the one closet to me all around with SC and then continued up 4 inches.. then I did the front loop only and started the last 4 inches of the bed.. doing the front loops only on these two round really helps for it to stand up straight and bend over.
I'm making this right now for my two cats!! I can't wait to show you the finished project! Your tutorials are so easy to follow! Thank you for teaching me how to crochet!!
Thanks for this..I have just about completed my girlie's bed. Mine's about 15" across the bottom, I just kept increasing until about 19 sc then 2sc together....you tutorial inspired me to go a little bigger..
My cat is like jello, but he's big. He's 16 pounds and as long as a twin bed is wide. He could probably curl up and melt into that size. Anyhow, I still would like to make him one. Great tutorial!
hi, you can make the bed as large or small as you like. all you need to do is keep increasing the base until it is the size you need and then start working on the sides
This video is AMAZING. Thank you!!! Question! Could you do the base as you did (single stitch) but do double stitches on the sides? Would it go up as normal? I like the sides higher up but it's taking a long time to finish and thought it would be easier to do double stitch instead!
G'day audreybieber1 THANK YOU and thank you for your comment. You can d it that way but the double crochet is such a tall stitch that it will offer no stablitliy, the only way to help it would be to have tight tension with the double crochet by having a smaller hook Have you joined our group yet? G'day Cameryn George thank you for your comment. How many rounds have you done after your last increase round ? Have you joined our group yet? You can share all of your bobwilson123 projects here. facebook.com/groups/338449986970915/
hi there. Just wondering if you noticed the orb in your video you were posting on the pet bed? Look at l:08 and then there it is. By the way I love your videos. I was wondering if you had a missed pet that was visiting you?? Hugs from CANADA
Are your pattern's available on "Ravelry"? I just started trying to keep track of my projects on my "Ravelry" Account. I hope it works.. anyway I am working on this bed now. It is a "Barter" with my Dog groomer. I'm making a bed for her pup that is expecting her first litter. I have always wanted to make a bed for my pets. So this is my first attempt. I linked to this YT and to your Website Page. I'd like to link it to your Ravelry if you have that also.... I added one row of BP SC To make a "Ridge" once I had the base area completed, I just started on the walls now.... I think it will help it to stand up more? I hope anyway. We shall see.....
I use Patons yarn so i have no idea what is considered 8 ply or 10 ply considering im in Canada...the yarns i have are Patons Canadiana which is a number 4 yarn according to the the label...not sure if it would work for this project or not
10ply is the same as worsted in america and most other countries like red heart super saver, patons worsted, and 8ply is the same as double knitting yarn or dk yarn. 4ply would be fingering or sock weight. I know the US will have worsted weight with the number 4 on it and it will say that on some other worsted weight yarns as well
OMGosh I am so sorry ! The video is correct but the pattern was not I though I saved the corrections, obviously not. Thank you for letting e know and sorry for the confusion Happy crochet
yes you could use super bulky. you can use basically whatever yarn you have as long as it ends up being thick enough. use a hook that will make it a stiffer project
Not a big deal , After youve`done the 8 SC into the circle,You say 1CH Pattern say 2 Ch, Also states in pattern Notes after 6 rounds ,"each row will have 1 more SC in between the HDC`s". is that saying Half Double Crochets?
I did make a dog bed of sorts from your Granny Square Bottom Bag. No handles and I crocheted more rounds to make it very long. I used 2 strands of cotton yarn but it's floppy. They lay on it doubled, or I open it out and flatten the bottom and then puddle the sides to make a nest. They can also crawl inside it. They are Doxies, so they like to tunnel and be covered up.
I explain that when you get to the size you want, you just stop increasing and then work one stitch into each stitch. you just keep doing that until the sides are as high as you like. the end of the video explains the height that you need to make it sturdy as wll
