So how is Animar doing in 2023? What cards do we include in it? Is it up to date with what every other deck is more or less doing in the format? With me I have JMCraig so playes Animar a lot.

Great video! The comments have all been... interesting... didn't realize Animar was so controversial lol. Animar was my first MTG deck and I've been upgrading it and playing it for 2 years and love the big guy! Happy to see such a classic commander getting some time to shine in today's meta.

You're on the decklist included here! I do recommend folks check out your personal one too, since it has more experiential changes that give you an idea where the deck is headed.

Kinnen doesn't increase the amount of mana treasures produce because that is a sac ability. Am I wrong? I am wrong because it's still a "mana ability". This just goes to show drinking beers and playing lawyer don't mix lol

Thanks a lot for the video, very helpful!! I was wondering if cEDH in general is usually 1v1? Respectively if the lists shown are also usable for multiplayer without being much worse? As I would imagine in multiplayer you probably want less counters/cards that trade 1to1?

Not particularly relevant but the idea of overcoming not drawing cards from your commander by just playing a very refined 99 has me stuck thinking about the just revealed Sauron from the lord of the rings set... Might it be viable to play a deck with it as commander where you basically fill the 99 with infinite mana combos and interaction but not really any win con because the second you establish infinite mana you can just cast Sauron and pay enough mana to win. Is a rakdos commander that is almost always just a win con, though I guess sometimes it might also steal a Stax piece and let you combo, bad or is not having to worry about the 99 actually winning the game enough?

That sauron idea is intruiging, and probably all right even in cedh, but still would be decidedly worse than some already established decks. If your goal is to just make infinite mana and combo off with your commander, you're better off with tymna/thrasios or even a b tier deck like kinnan. On the other hand, if you just want to play rakdos, you're much better off with a turbo/storm list, which isn't something sauron enables or helps with at all. That being said, your idea is pretty interesting (especially using sauron to steal a stax piece) and likely playable.

@@__7578 agreed, I don't see the concept even getting close to many current decks if strictly built as a pay off to infinite mana. That being said maybe it's worth putting more consideration into ways of more frequently activating the steal effect? Many mana/treasure combos in rakdos require repeatable sac outlets so it should be possible to prevent opponents getting their creatures back and there are plenty of cards in both black and red to facilitate multiple steals in a turn. I'm sure building heavily into that side of it would result in a more casual deck but perhaps there's a balance point where the deck is both stronger and able to fully make use of both effects?

10:23 - I am thrown off....How does Kinnan increase treasure mana to 2? you are tapping then sacrificing before getting any mana.

You're still tapping the treasure for mana. Sacrificing it is just a part of the cost

Not really a fan of this build, how many of those hands were unplayable? It seems inconsistent based on those examples. I like the last deck tech for animar done on this channel, honestly.

I would say that this is an incorrect statement, previous Animar (dorks ouphe etc) was not viable, but the improved Animar is much more consistent and has a stronger game plan

@@s3rzen983 wrong. I’m the guy telling everyone rograhk thrasios winter orb is the truth. Rograhk thrasios stax control combo the way I have it built makes animar cedh look like a power level 5-7 deck. There isn’t a better early/mid game that can turbo better than Thrasios and Rodger in temur colors. Animar is light years behind me. In this very video it was said there are times where your commander animar is irrelevant. That means your deck sucks. Your commander shouldn’t be capable of being irrelevant due to your own planning and cards. If your commander can be irrelevant your deck is trash. I don’t mean to be offensive, but Thomas Payne rings truer than almost anything else. I’ll never be able to tell the truth without offending some one.

@@s3rzen983 winter orb > static orb in my build even though I run both. I always prefer to see winter orb. You have to remember all I have to do to win a game of edh is break parody on winter or static orb for one of my turns. Just one turn where I untap everything and nobody else did is typically enough to get a dub. In a way it’s far superior to just taking an extra turn. People act like not being able to untap lands isn’t a big deal, it is. It throws off a lot of top tier cedh.

@@s3rzen983 people often forget also that any form of infinite mana will yield a W in rograhk and thrasios. No matter what zone thrasios is in and no matter how much thrasios costs, infinity mana = gg
