Nobody will ever be able to touch the performance that Williams gave in the original film. But to Dan's credit, he did an amazing job with the character and I think he definitely fits the role well.
@@BrianMarrino236 Do you think if there will be a reboot of the TV series of "Aladdin" on the Disney Channel, or on disneyplus.com, do you think Dan Castellaneta will do Genie?
Robin is the definitive voice but if you ignore the fact that Dan sounds like Homer then he’s still really good. The third guy is a step down from both of them.
"If you ignore the fact that dan sounds like homer" because he did do homers voice i believe, and it's kind of hard to not hear homer...... even half assed paying attention you can hear homer, he wasn't meant to play the genie... EDIT: he also sounds like sideshow mel.
Here's my take on the three Genies: Robin Williams: The definitive Genie. Robin's craziness and over-the-top comedy brought life to a now iconic Disney legend. May he rest forever. Dan Castellaneta: I'd say Dan has Robin's wild personality on the nose. Even if the voice is a bit of a cross between Robin and Homer Simpson, Dan is a worthy successor to Robin's legacy in his own right. Jim Meskimen: Jim sounds closer to Robin than Dan. However, it sounds more like Robin's actual voice than the Genie. His Genie is also good, though. And finally, Will Smith: Quite the polarizing choice, but given Smith's goofiness and bouncy, hip-hop personality, I'd say he'll be just as good at bringing Genie to life as Robin did.
I did know, however, that Dan Castellanata also voiced Doc Brown in the Back to the Future cartoon series as well as Arnold's Grandpa in Hey Arnold. I was amazed when I found that out years later.
Nobody can touch the late Robin Williams, not even in his death. That role of the Genie will always be synonymous with him because that's who Robin was in real life, the dude was a shape-shifting comedic genius RIP.
Robin and Dan tied for me. Dan is Homer Simpson and sounds like him but is an impeccable replacement for Robin Williams as a LOT of people never knew that Robin Williams was replaced at all past the first movie. Granted, Robin created the portrayal, Dan is suitable to continue it because it's exactly the kind of portrayal Dan would do. Dan has also voiced Genie the longest and therefore seems to define the character the most, overall that is.
I think Jim Meskimen sounds closer to Robin Williams as the Genie. Dan's portrayal although I do like, (not as much as Robin Williams however) makes him sound more like Homer Simpson which he's famous for
I love Dan castellanetta but I can only hear homer and the eeeyyesss guy when he does genie robin williams was so dynamic and that's what made his performance special so many references and was almost all adlibbed
Robin will always be the best genie to me even if these one did voice genie longer Robin Williams is what I grew up hearing as the genie so that's how it will always be for me
robin was wonderful as genie dan didnt sound anything like him still sounds like homer while jim does a wonderful job voice matching robins trademark wit
Obviously, Robin Williams leads the way, no doubt. That said, Castellaneta's effort was damn good considering the powerhouse of a talent he had to live up to. Jim does sound a little like Williams but is completely missing the energy of Genie.
Dan’s work is admirable because instead of just imitating Robin Williams, he had his own take on the character which I’ve grown to like. Jim is trying too hard to copy Robin. Robin Williams will of course always be the best Genie (:
Genie rule #1: a genie can’t kill anybody. Genie rule #2: a genie can’t make anybody fall in love with anybody else. And genie rule #3: a genie can’t bring people back from the dead.
I didn’t realize until watching this video just how used to Dan’s voice I was. Having heard Genies voice way more in stuff like kingdom hearts, than actually watching the movie, sometimes I totally forget that Robin Williams didn’t perform for those games.
Robin did voice Genie only twice. But his work was so iconic and amazing, you could basically say that Genie was actually Robin Williams let loose. But Dan did amazingly in this role. And he did it both for The Return of Jafar and the entirety of the Aladdin Series. So technically he did it a lot more than Robin. That being said, I think they both added a lot to the character, and you just can't escape that Genie's face is actually modelled after Robins. The third guy did alright. But Dan was the only choice to fill Genie's boots when Robin wasn't available. So they are both my favourites.
I'm honestly surprised so many people don't like Jim Meskimen's Genie. I've always felt he was quite good - when I first played "Disney Think Fast", I wondered if they'd gotten Robin Williams back.
I love Robin Williams as the voice of the Genie from Disney's Aladdin and Aladdin and the King of Thieves and Dan Castellneta as the voice of the Genie from Disney's The Return of Jafar, Aladdin: The TV Series and House of Mouse.
1. Robin Williams: Williams has the most unique and charismatic voice. 2. Jim Meskimen: The closest thing I have ever heard to Robin Williams. 3. Dan Castellaneta: It kind of sounds like a subdued take on Homer Simpson, like Homer Simpson without the beer.
1- Robin Williams > the true essence of the Genie 2- Castellaneta > Homer Simpson as a Genie 3- Meskimen > An Announcer with a little of William's touch, but you get surprised seeing that Homer makes it better.
#3 Jim Meskimen. Admittedly, he sounds more like Robin Williams than Dan Castellaneta. Hell, he even looks like Robin Williams’ son! 😂😂😂 But he lacks the pizzazz and charisma they both have. #2 Dan Castellaneta. Yes, yes, he sounds like Homer Simpson, blah, blah, blah. But for what’s it’s worth, he still did a good job at filling in for Robin Williams. #1 Robin Williams. Come on! Is it really a contest?! He IS the Genie! His voice, his appearance, his personality, everything translated into the Genie is him! Definitely stole the show in Aladdin, plus, not only that, but most, if not all his dialogue, was improvised, giving us such iconic lines! You know what they say; “Often imitated, but never duplicated!”.
