I start by cleaning up my key poses a bit, and refining my arcs and get into the process of inbetweening.
Grab a copy of the rig I use here:

This animating thing is taking a long time, so I'm going to break it up into a few parts. Hopefully you learn a bit more about cut-out animation, and ways to use your network and timeline to save time.
If you have any questions about animation, rigging, or other Toonboom Harmony related stuff, please leave a comment or a message. Always looking for more tutorial ideas.

"..eyes are really darty....pupils don't drift....." Brilliant! Never thought about this. A smooth motion doesn't mean it has to drift. It can dart!

I learn so much just watching/listening to you animate while I rigged stuff...you're my hero!

Thanks again for the tutorials. I wondered whether it is more advisable to design and construct the head or the body of a character first? Do you have a preference? If so, what is it?
@StylusRumble
@StylusRumble 7 лет назад
The design I don't really have a preference. I'm not a character designer professionally, If I am in the design department I'm given something designed by a "Creative" artist, and I'm the "technical" artist, who does the clean up and rotation - if that makes sense. When I'm rigging, I'll start by copying the art into all the drawing modules, then I'll start from the top of the front view, and once it's working I'll move onto the 3/4 views. I don't think there's any big advantage to starting head vs body in the long run.

Thanks Tracey, or is it Tracy? Just to mention that I was watching another tutorial by another person the other day, and they showed how to connect hands to arms that had deformation assigned by using Inverse Kinematic Modules. I know that you said that you didn't prefer this way of designing limbs in a previous tutorial, but it seemed like a good idea for when anybody is using this method, as it snaps the hands directly to the arms.

What do think about to make my own cartoon serie by myself possible? Or it’s a lot of work for only one person?
@StylusRumble
@StylusRumble 5 лет назад
It would be a lot of work, but it's certainly not impossible. If you think about keeping things simple, reusing a lot. Doing short episodes 1-2 minutes will also make it more manageable. I say go for it. Worst case scenario, you have fun practicing stuff.

I don't think I ever did one lol. If you check my playlists I have one for all the character animation stuff.

The other thing I wanted to ask you, is that I have noticed in node or module view, you have a separate map for each part of the body. That looks so useful, how do you do that?
@StylusRumble
@StylusRumble 7 лет назад
If you mean the coloured backdrops, you can just add them from the menu in the node view. Insert - backdrop. I have a pre-made character rig template that I start with, so I don't do all that junk every time from scratch :)
@silverscreen27
@silverscreen27 7 лет назад
Thanks. I shall give it a try. Will that mean that I can separate all my bits of rigging from each other??? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.
@StylusRumble

The more you do it, the easier it gets to keep track of all the pieces. Start with the biggest stuff, torso, limbs, head, then work down to details like shirt collars or buttons. You can use the back drops to keep everything put together. have you downloaded the rig I put on gumroad? That way you can get a closer look at how I set everything up.

@StylusRumble

Not start to finish. The rigging playlist has all the pieces. So How to rig an eye, arm etc. I'm in the process of finishing my line art for my next project and I'm going to document the whole rig from start to finish :). Not sure when but it's on the to-do list.

How do you set the different views in a specific point in the timeline? Do you toggle between groups?

How are you sliding the eye lids? Was that covered in a different video?
@StylusRumble
@StylusRumble 3 года назад
The slidey eyelids were causing more problems then they solved so they were replaced with drawing substitutions. I do have a video on eyes in my rigging playlist to set that kind of thing up :)

hello just wanna ask is this basically what they call "Cut-out animation"?
@StylusRumble
@StylusRumble 5 лет назад
Yep! anything that starts with an articulated puppet is called cut-out. Sometimes there's still a lot of drawing involved, but it really depends on the production. Any time someone says "flash animation" they're usually referring to cut-out as well. That was just the most popular program 10-15 years ago, so the term stuck.
