0:48 for all those in 2019 watching this and wondering, you are now able to implement your audio. Step 1. Select frame on the timeline where you want the audio to start (can be tweaked later without removing) Step 2. Go into "file" Step 3. Find "Import" Step 4. Select "Audio" And boom there ya have it, sound in the animation.
I love how this takes the traditional, original concept of animation and modernizes it to make it easier for today's use. This part of the software is so powerful, and it's sad how overlooked it is.
Thank you! Celsys is still polishing their animation pipeline, so I'm waiting for it to stabilize a bit before giving another go at it. They've already made a good amount of changes so I'll likely to a fresh update soon. Thanks for the good word!
Everybody else’s tutorials is filled with all this jargon from RU-vidrs who like to hear themselves talk and although your video is longer, is so much more clear cut and direct. I can’t thank you enough how much this helped me and I hope you other “animation” RU-vidrs take notes
It's really awesome that all three missing features announced at the start of this tutorial (tweening, cameras, audio track) are now in the new CSP version 1.8.4! I'm looking forward to what other cool updates we might get in the future. ^^
DarkThief Darek Wait they added these things?? I just updates a little bit ago, and I had no idea, thanks for letting me know so I can look into that :0
Thank you for including the part about clip studio paint pro maxing at 24 frames!! Every time I searched it nothing helped so now I know. Thanks a lot^^
Reuben, you have such a clear, straightforward and friendly - AND user friendly - style of teaching. Your pace is perfect, so that I can grasp the concepts easily and take notes. You also have a soothing tone of voice. Thank you so much! Thanks for all your tips too.
THIS IS DOPE! it took me maybe 15 -20 minutes to fully understand carefully what your'e doing but I got it ! Thank you so much ! essentially 1 animation folder 2 add a layer 3 add cells 4 enable onion skin 5 then animate !
Wow... fantastic tutorial and fantastic programme with so much functionality! I love the logic/concepts behind how it does animation altho it is different from flash, very interesting and handy! This tutorial is one of the best I've come across for learning this kinda stuff, really clearly structured and well explained. I love how you started by explaining the principles of animation on CSP patiently, pointed out all the handy features and clearly demonstrated them and even went on to show how to make one's experience more user friendly (I never considered mapping functions onto F keys specifically and sticking dots above them to make it easier!)
Just bought the full class yesterday. For those who want to use Clip Studio Paint for traditional animation, it's a great lesson for sure. I'm more into illustration than animation, and when I take a job, usually I use a mix of CSP for draw the stuff and flash to animate it and don't have made use of tweening a lot more than frame by frame animation, but this class is an incentive to try it more. It's worth of every cent paid for the tutorial and will still recommend it for everyone I know and it's going into traditional animation as I recommend CSP for those who want a nice software for illustration. 10/10
Thanks... :) I'm not sure that I am the right type of person with guts to make animation, cause it's too much hard work and I have not so much patience for this kind of work, but anyway I appreciate knowing that the software I use have this functionality if I need them. Also, is there a place where I can find your animation portfolio? Would love to see something you've made. Thanks and the best wishes for you too.
It is a bit tedious to get the hang of at first. But this video helps understand a lot of the things here for a beginner animator just like me. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for making some of the best animation for clip studio support out there currently. Supporting you on gumroad as well for the rest of this. Incredibly helpful and well paced.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST TUTORIALS ON RU-vid. I just got clip studio paint today and I can't wait to try it out after watching this, everything you said here was extremely helpful and I was able to follow along easily! I'm honestly so grateful for this video and I really can't thank you enough :))) Definitely subbed!!
Okay thank you for this amazing tutorial! It's so clear and thorough, I've been using CSP for years but still have yet to try animating in it (despite being an animation student). I made the mistake of trying it out years back by just winging it and found it super confusing/daunting so I never went back. So glad I came back for another shot and found this vid. I feel so motivated now! Can't wait to really start animating in clip studio!
just as a note choosing "real-time playback" will skip drawn frames if it cant render them in time during playback... this usually occurs with frames that are close together and on frames that consist of a lot of layers. so although you might get the correct timing on your frames it will not show all the frames drawn if your system cant keep up... the best option is to check the "pre-render frames" so it pre-renders all the frames before playback to ensure you see the correct timing of all your frames...
I feel like it went over my head (at least the first part, which is all I got through so far...) and I already know how to use CSP for drawing, and the basic concepts of animation... oh well, I'll just watch it again and try to not be dumb this time. :P
A big thank you for the best tutorial I've found on animating with Clip Studio Paint. You really explain it well, carefully. Can't stand all those rude people complaining, but I guess they help us understand life. Congratulations ✌
This is a really amazing, useful video for Clip Studio. I've looked at a lot of others and always ended up really confused on the layer versus cel structure and how to add in cels after getting keyframe cels and how to get things to show up when and where I wanted them. This video I understood it the first go, but also it was just really streamlined in the presented information and MUCH easier to follow. So a big thank you for that! Great vid. Will definitely check out the site and buy the other vid.
I love how you walk through and break down the tools and practices, and as far as the finished sequence, I think Rex is gonna have to find a sturdier stick for fetch~!
Thank you so much for the helpful tutorial Reuben! When I first got the program, I was so frustrated because I didn't know how to use multiple layers on a single frame. Thanks to you I now know how simple it is. You've earned a subscriber and a like!
Thank you so much for this man! Clear and straight forward presentation. You got yourself another subscriber! If you happen to have an iPad Pro, the iOS version of this seems similar, if not exactly the same, in terms of functionality and features. Such a great software specifically for traditional animation
Thanks for the good word! And yes i'm already loving the ipad version. The subscription price point will scare a lot of people away, i hope they make an adjustment...
Reuben Lara same! Like many here and on Twitter are stating, I’d gladly pay the same price I did for the desktop version, because honestly, this is exactly like the desktop version but on iPad, which is still amazing to me
I found this video extremely helpful!! Thank you! But I also want to add that already have previous knowledge in animation with after effects and photoshop and in drawing with clip studio paint. For me, it really helped me to get to know the specifics for clip studio paint animation!
WHAAAAT!!!! This blow my mind!!! I didn't knew that you can make the layer groups! I Usually would made another animation folder on the timeline!!! THANKS A LOT FOR THIS TUTORIAL!!! A GAME CHANGER!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Hope you don't mind, but I share this video with Clip Studio profile on twitter asking to they to call you for maybe make some video with they on their official channel cause I think all the CSP should know your work and lessons. Even their official videos I think that doesn't explain it so good as you. Sorry if I'm Fanboying a bit LOL
Dude, you're a fucking godsend. I got clip studio paint recently and your basic tutorials immideately made me not to give up on the program. Now it's sky rocketing into becoming my favorite drawing app in both desk and ipad. Thanks a lot mate!
Just went through both your Animation Basics and Intro to Graphic Novel Coloring course on Gumroad, I've learned so much about the Workflow, as someone who's new to the digital medium coming from pen & paper, this is a huge step for me. Thank you, the course is definitely worth it. > w
Very helpful. I wanted to animate this artwork I made a bit ago and wasn't sure how I could with clip. You've got a sub man, now i can use my artwork as a background for one of my videos
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I wrote out a long comment about how much I appreciate this tutorial (and how much this software triumphs over the EDUCATIONAL edition of TVP), but my freaking browser deleted it. So I'mma just say THANK YOU and say you've got another subscriber. XDDD Cheers!
Okay I have to thank you. I wanted to use squarespace for learning how to animate in csp but all their lessons were pretty ... Difficult to understand when you are a beginner. Also the one I tryed never mentioned that you have to specify the layers, so I was stuck and you could Not ask them to help 😱 i almost cryed and then I found your Video and understood the concept in minutes. Thanks a Lot
Well, actually it's two different beasts. Flash is purely vector based and Clip Studio is completely raster based, and so the workflow needs to adjust accordingly. In CSP, you can add things like adjustment layers and soft raster masks to any frame (not possible in Flash), which means you need to go toward a more layer based approach to assigning drawings to frames. This is closer to TVPaint in terms of workflow.
Man, i just got a drawing tablet and with it a license for clip studio pro. What i was looking most forward to do with it was animating, and i just now discover that i cant make anymore than 24 frames with that version :(. Guess i will make do with it until i can afford the EX version or another animation program.
You can a lot in 24 frames! A walk cycle, a facial expression change, a body attitude... Set your frame rate to 12 or even 8, and you'll have a full 2 - 3 seconds of animation to work with.
Thank you a lot! I stuggled a lot with ClipStudio Paint only few days before, but your tutorial helps me to understand more even some parts are quite hard!!! 👍🏻👏🏻😛
photoshop is good, but im officially uninstalling it, same with flash, Gonna buy clip studio EX next time its on sale, Love this program so far! its everything Photoshop is ,but better! PS: Good video as always! :) PS: ONLY downside with PRO version of Clip studio is that you can ONLY use 24 frames compared to EX version where its unlimited. But that means i can use PRO to learn animation better in this program and get better at drawing, then perfect it in EX ! :)
This tutorial is fantastic! Now i have a better understanding of how to animate in Clip Studio Paint. Is there a way to do the backgrounds and the camera movement in Adobe Animate, then export it into Clip Studio and do the frame by frame characters over the top?
Thanks for watching so quickly! Yes you can. At the moment, the easiest way would be to export your Adobe Animate files as a .mov or .avi, then importing that as a track into CS. You could then animate frame by frame in a separate animation folder. Just make sure to export your Adobe Animate movie in the same frame rate you'll be animating in CS.
Oh that makes a lot of sense! I think it didn't work for me since i exported it as a .mp4, not a .mov or .ari, so it only appeared as 1 frame on the timeline. Thank you!
No problem! Although it's better to think of CS as an ingredient-maker, not a final compositor. Consider planning your shot in Adobe Animate (likely at 30 FPS), calculating your frame rate and timing for animating in CS at a reasonable frame rate (like 12 or 15), then importing your CS files into Animate for compositing. You may find that workflow more sustainable in the long run. At the moment at least, CS animation isn't built as a compositor (as is After Effects, Flash, Toon Boom, or even Animate if you are using it that way). It's main function is to churn out discreet animation sequences you can use to build something larger. Of course, you could push the boundaries and output a final composition in CS, but you may run into some snags with frame rate discrepancies. Just food for thought... hope your animation goes well!
Great tutorial, but your screen resolution is very high, even on a 27 inch I have to put it on 1080 to see the very small letters, I normally have no problem watching in 720.
You talk so fast! I had to listen to the playback at half speed to hear everything being said and to try and see where the mouse pointer was. Maybe a highlighted mouse pointer in the future would help for us to follow what you are doing. Thanks for this awesome breakdown of the features though. :D
