Those single frames of super stretch in the melee attacks really add a lot, no wonder they all feel so satisfying.

I think Junkrat might have my favorite first person animations. All the stuff bobbing on his gun, the way he smacks his gun when he reloads. So much character.

Stan V I fell in love with the game once I tried Junkrat. the launcher is probably the best thing in the game.

It really shows his unhinged personality! Like how he dosen't even care that he's holding a DETONATOR, he'll just punch with it. And how he simply smacks his gun with GRENADES like it's no big deal.

Stan V lol I got the game because of all the animations. I thought the animations were all so well thought out. i went out a month after overwatches launch to get myself an xbox just to give overwatch a shot. Needless to say i love overwatch.

You can see how much passionate he is when showing his animations, his nervousness just goes away for a moment and it's beautiful!

i love your talks GDC - i really do. its a lovely insight into many things in game dev. but christ, how long have you been doing this to still have very bad audio setups? please work on this a little bit further. please.

Thats really a golden rule for us 3D animators: if you can cheat, why not? No one will see some broken fingers or squashed/streched arms

Things you learn in animation: Only what the view can see on screen matters, screw everything else.

... unless you animate games, and new screen technology emerges, like ultra-wide screens which redefine standard FOVs, and now you see tons of clippings and weird stretches.

The guy seems so nervous, but I hope he knows that he gave a great talk that seriously helped me with completing my essay specifically about the first person animation in Overwatch. This guy saved my ass, this is an amazing resource.

I love how this game expresses character and personality of each hero through first person animation. The calm of zen or the ticks of junkrat. This game and Doom 2016 just nailed it.

That prototype reload animation for Soldier looks neat, I wish I could see it in game. Not like a permanent reload animation but they can make it like rare animation just like rare voicelines or sth

I think Orisa also gets her legs shown on first person when she jumps?

俞達 I think her front legs are in her ult, too, because she rears back before slamming her drum down. Orisa also has really impressive third person animations. Her four legs move so naturally.

10:25 It's not that ridiculous - being future as this is, you'd imagine they'd make guns to be as easily reloadable as possible... Making them so that you can just "slap it in" makes a lot of sense to me if the technology is there to make it work.

The first person animations really DO set Overwatch apart from most other hero shooters. Even to this day. ❤
