Most people still don't realize the MAPPA took over Attack on Titan cause nobody else wanted to do season 4 in the time frame that was given, that is why MAPPA did cgi titans cause it was less time consuming, not cause they thought it would look better.

Violet Evergarden, or anything made by the studio Kyoto Animation. They went through some heartbreaking stuff after what happened to their studio and deserve some love.

Violet Evergarden has incredible detail in every frame of animation. Each scene feels like a painting that took hours upon hours to draw. It's beautiful and the emotions in it are just as intense

10:12 In here, Eren transformed for the second time in a row after he sealed the wall. Transformation consumes a lot of energy and when he does, his titan form gets smaller. They actually mentioned it on the show before. Idk if the animators thought of that, but it might be the reason.

If it wasn't for Mappa, we wouldn't get a final season of attack on titan. No other studio wanted it, because they didn't want to ruin the final season. Too much pressure. For Mappa, it was easier to CG the titans than to draw them with the talent they had at their studio and the time they had. That's why the final arc will be delayed so they can draw the titans this time. I truly appreciate what Mappa has done.

Mob psycho is worth a react video, it’s visuals are stunning, the foil effect on the psychic powers is incredible

My favorite perspective shot in AOT is when Armin is helping Eren climb out of the underground crystal ceremony catacombs. Armin is above ground and reaches down to grab Eren’s arm. He looks gigantic in this split second which I totally believe it’s foreshadowing him to become the Colossal Titan.

Redline (2009) is absolute masterpiece that took like 8 years to make. I really think you guys should do it justice

Redline's intesity and sense of speed in some scenes made me literally hold my breath, it was also ENTIRELY hand drawn and was probably one of the last anime movie ever to be made that way because it took 7 years and nearly sunk the studio

Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori and Todo vs Hanami This fight shows the distorted zoom perspectives of each member(how Levi's face can be a 30mm lens, and his foot is an 8mm lens), how energy is used for transportation when todo claps or uses his ability (the effects for it are amazing), and how Hinami uses its cursed energy attacks, Hinami's attacks are spread throughout the entirerty of the screen using a lot of detail in "Pencil Mileage". Plus when Saturo Gojo uses hollow purple at the end, shows how eastern culture uses energy and the intensity from it to really pull the viewer in.

Let's appreciate the camera man who track Levi during that chase scene

Mob Psycho 100 has beautiful and incredibly fluid animation. It’s truly unique, even features Paint-on-Glass animation in many episodes and in the first season ED (which took months to complete!)

Any show made by Ufotable studios (Fate Series, Kimetsu no Yaiba) is just a blessing. They're probably the only studio as of now that can blend 3dcg with their spectacular 2d animation smoothly not to mention how great their art direction is

Demon Slayer: the way the artistically blend CGI to help visualize combat with 2D is crazy good (Also won an award for best animation of the year 2019)

Something that really hit me was the way they did eyes in Violet Evergarden during the more emotion felt moments. You could actually see the emotion in their eyes and I feel as though capturing something like that is so hard for animators and artists to do.

Anything Satoshi Kon has done is groundbreaking. The man’s mind was incredible, and he’s the reason we have movies like Black Swan and Inception.

Land of the Lustrous is quite groundbreaking for basically changing the world's opinion on the use of CGI in anime

I feel that Mob Psycho 100 was a groundbreaking anime because they used so many different styles of art and animation. Also Yu Yu Hakusho had the greatest tournament arc of all time.

It actually took me ages to realize the titans had actually become CGI. if only they used the same stuff for the berserk anime instead of the horrible butchering they did.

Eren’s attack titan looked small because that episode eren transformed countless times and i remember them mentioning that once a titan shifter transforms too many times, the titan would look a bit smaller than it would usually do.

Asuka vs the mass-production Evas in End of Evangelion. Actually, almost any of End of Evangelion is groundbreaking, but that fight has such incredible animation

Akira was groundbreaking because it was one of the first animes that actively animated entire face movements instead of just mouths and eyes. They had a very low amount of freeze frames beyond landscapes of the city.

A ground breaking anime is demon slayer in the sense that it can blend 2d and 3d anime seamlessly. An example is the chase down with Tanjiro and Rui in episode 19 as well as the first episode where Tanjiro is running through the forest

The fight scene between Azula and Zuko in AtLA is legitimately fantastic in my opinion. The animation AND choreography are so fluid and interesting. Unlike any other fight scene I've seen in animation.

Redline is probably the most influential but underrated anime film. It’s animation was completely ahead of it’s time. Just perfect animation and mind blowing perspective and breathtaking fluidity

Houseki no Kuni/Land of the Lustrous must be one of the groundbreaking anime. I don't know much about CGI, but that's one of the most unique drawing and a complete masterpiece. I think they integrate a lot of CGI with drawings, but-- I just want to hear more from professional animators standpoint!

Fate Series by ufotable the way how they use CGI, shadow, colour, steam and light effects is just incredible.

Guys please show redline some love! It was made by madhouse over the course of 7 years and included over 100.000 hand drawn frames. This thing is an absolute experience when it comes to animation.

Guys please, everyone's saying Demon Slayer or One Punch but I need you guys to appreciate Violet Evergarden's animation it's BEAUTIFUL

violet evergarden when she jumps over the lake, honestly its actually insane how beautiful it is. I love the show because the things that are happening in it (like the wars and soldiers dying and the soldiers parents getting the news) happen in real life too. every episode hits you with an emotion train

Ghost In The Shell 2 has a three minute scene that took an entire year to animate. EDIT: I’m referring to the GITS 2 Parade Scene

The Violet Evergarden staff literally reinvented how the studio animates using blender. And Beastars pushes the boundaries of cg animation; I don't remember the specifics, but the did something impressive with the facial expressions.

I feel like Redline is one of the most underrated anime ever. Its a movie that took 7 years to draw and animate but it totally paid off. Every scene looks amazing with fluid animation and the changes in perspective are great. Id highly recommend it

The scale of the titan at 10:17 is changing because the japanese animations are mostly done by freelance animator working from their places, so there's little or no control of the actual work until it's delivered to the studio. It's the animation director's role to fix the issues ( bad design, scale, poor timing etc...) but when you're out of time, you just let the cut in without correction because the schedules are so tight. Plus, you can have one single cut drawn by a certain artist and the following one by another one. One of them can read the e conte ( storyboard ) and decide his character has to be tall enough to grab the giant titan at his ankle while the second one will decide that the correct size allows the hero to seize the knee.

They shifted to CGI in season 4 because they had a very tight schedule. They switched studios very suddenly and Mappa had around a year to get everything done. They had a lot of work done in 2d but ultimately had to replace everything (titans and fights) with 3d because they were running out of time. If they had given Mappa 1 more year, it would've been all done in 2d. And if you look up the the storyboard and rough animation on RU-vid, you'll be amazed and kinda pissed because it didn't end up in the final cut. The producers were pushing studio WIT too hard, they weren't giving them enough time and they had to quit the project. Producers did the same with Mappa, they didn't give them enough time.

Death Note was probably the one that really got me into anime. The exageration, intense animation and dramatic music when he's only writing something or just eating a potatochip is pretty darn great

Asuka vs MP Evas in End of Evangelion. How have you not talked about this one yet? It is heralded by many as the very best display of WEIGHT in an animated scene. The way the evas cut into the landscape and how Asuka is thrown around the cockpit. Shit is absolutely insane.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Not only is its one of the landmark Magical Girl anime with a beautiful story. But the animation in the Labyrinths, the way the Witches are drawn. The surreal, patchwork style animation is just incredible and would probably be really fun to get an animators opinion on

Demon Slayer: the entire series is just so aesthetically pleasing. It has beautiful animation and beautiful scenery. Highly recommend to watch it

If Niko lies any lower on that couch, he's going to be drawn by Leo DeCaprio like a French girl.

Almost every ghibli film were ground breaking, nausicaa was probably one of the craziest films ever made at the time.

the Fate series by ufotable is quite groundbreaking, because they were one of the first studios to implement CGI and hand drawn animation in a more natural and seamless way.

Honestly I don’t mind the look of cgi Titans at all it just took an episode or 2 to get used to the movement of them being a little more choppy

Violet Evergarden: Where she walks on the lake, I love the art style and how every frame feels like a painting and has so much meaning behind it Haikyuu: Shiratorizawa vs Karasuno. The feeling of impact with each serve and spike was what hooked me in Demon Slayer: The way they mixed in traditional (?) Japanese art with their animation was so cool

Not only did Alex answered each question with competence, he also consistently added a level of insight that also ended up answering questions that I had as well. I need to commend Niko and Wren for giving our guest the opportunity to flesh out layman terms for viewers. If there is ever a phrase or saying privy to the industry, hosts do not shy away from getting the guests' perspective on what they particularly mean. Whenever I ask myself, "I wonder what they mean by that?" By the time I’m done thinking, our hosts have already had our guest define it in their own thoughts and expertise. Great video, I enjoy it, as it aligned with many thoughts that I’ve had over the years 👍

To be honest, 2D hand drawn animation has something in it that 3D animation can't provide.

Akira and Ghost in the Shell were one of the most ground-breaking pieces of animation ever produced

To be honest, I think Mushoku Tensei would be the most deserving of coverage, because of the effort put into the smallest of scenes. Like in in episode one, where Rudeus first attempts at magic are beautifully animated to a point, where I think it might be the best looking magic ever done in animation(08:33, 13:20, ep.2, 05:38, 18:06), the same applies to Roxys magic(ep. 1, 17:37, ep.2, 16:35), in episode 3 (14:09), as well as to Sylphies magic. And that’s still ignoring all the gorgeous, lively character animation and the stunning background drawings. I also think Mushoku Tenseis training scenes (good examples in episodes 6 (10:18), 7(00:00), 10(00:00),12(07:08) and 21(02:20)), deserve a lot of credit, seeing how they are not really important to the story: You could just have the characters talk about training or show a few still frames instead of actually animating them, yet instead those scenes are better animated than most series finales. That said, those finales do hit hard, although there not really being a final battle, since the stories most integral parts aren’t necessarily it’s fights. Also, showing the fight in episode 21 (later in the episode) would kinda spoil a lot, so it’s probably not to good to review. Hope that helps ^^.

So, demon slayer fight episode 19 is jawdropping. It demonstrates how to perfectly combine 2d drawing, cgi and a gorgeous soundtrack to create a moment that just takes your breath away. All culminating in the stunning final attack. Literally creating a circle and bringing every aspect together for a work of art strengthened by every part of the medium.

It’s a shame mappa was given such a small time window to get it done, since they’ll get more time with part 2 of season 4, I know it’s gonna be incredible

I think some of my favorite bits of cool animation came from Space Dandy. They got different animators for each episode so each one has its own look and feel and they really pushed the style a lot in each episode.

Princess Mononoke has groundbreaking animation and was one of the first anime to be digitally colored. I think it was Miyazaki's first time working with 3D elements, background mapping, etc, and the entire movie holds up well. It's actually my favorite movie and I own a cel from it. Check out the opening fight with Ashitaka vs Demon Nago.

I have a suggestion for an anime themed episode(s). Anime that have been remade with updated and completely different art styles. Some of my favorite animes are remakes of the originals so there are: - Fate/Stay Night (2004) and Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works (2014). The running joke in the anime community is that Ufotable flexes their budget using this anime and you can see why (a personal favorite) - Full Metal Alchemist (2003) and Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood (2009) - Hunter X Hunter (1999) and Hunter X Hunter (2011). Another personal favorite. - Dororo (1969) and Dororo (2019). Because who doesn’t love a good throwback - Beserk (1997) and Beserk (2016)

the end of evangelion's asuka vs eva series fight is absolutely groundbreaking in its way of showing the scale of the fight

I know you've been asked this a million times, but please react to the killing sprees in Death Note. The director takes the mundane act of writing shit in a notebook and turns that into a set piece through perspective, speed, emphasis, and splitting the screen. It's seriously epic.

Mob Psycho 100 has some amazing fight scenes that have really good animation. One of the really cool things about this is when ever Mob uses his psychic powers he gets this really cool affect around him and the only way I can describe is that its like a hollow foil pokemon card. And Thais not even the start of the amazing animation. I really do love this anime and I think it’s a great choice to check out.

Mob Psycho 100 It has a lot of fights where they really go into 'energy feeling' fights. The drawings get very minimalistic but it is still very intense.

Ufotable breakthrough with their mix of 2d and 3d, vfx, ex: fate series and demon slayer Kyoto animation with the way they replicate lenses and more ex:a silent voice, violet evergarden Orange studio breakthrough in best use of 3d, ex:land of the lustrous, beastars, and also Dorohedoro by mappa studio also use CGI better than their subpar work on AOT season 4 due to their limited time

For the next episode I would recommend reviewing mushoku tensei. It has amazing cg that blend and pair perfectly with the hand drawn images. The hand drawn images are also amazing. I think Bind studio did a perfect job and poured their heart in it. It can definitely match up against top tier studios like ufotable, Mappa, madhouse,etc

All of Mob Psycho 100, animation pushes the medium to it's limit and gives some of the most visually bonkers scenes in all of anime

The "energy"-based animation really is the essence of animation. The usage of abstraction and stylization to make still images feel alive is what it's all about.
