Just rewatching old episodes and i have to say : 2021 and still i think the english dub is what made Trigun and Cowboy Bebop work so good. They actually enhance the respective anime. Both casts do superb work. Also : Cowboy Bebop is a rare occasion in which i think the German dub is actually really good, which for a German myself, is just amazing as this is rare as hell.

Cowboy BeBop and the original run of Berserk are tied in terms of story and characters for me, but over all BeBop had the better music, even if I liked some of the tracks in Berserk more.

It should also be noted that Cowboy Bebop came out 2001, just barely out of the horrible dubs we were accustom that permiated the 80s and 90s. And it's dub was fan-freaking-tastic. Yeah, we still get a lot of shitty dubs, look no further than Toradora, but Cowboy Bebop still set the gold standard. A gold standard that has remained nearly unchallenged. With that said, Dragonball Z's uncut Funamation dub ranks a close second for me and remains the best voice and cut we got. Fuck you Nickalodian.
@Bowiiihowdy
@Bowiiihowdy 4 года назад
It took DBZ a long time and alot of dubs to get to that point. Bebop has one and only one english dub. They knocked it out of the park so well they have never bothered to re dub it or try a different cast

Its an anime that appeals to both anime watchers and you're average person. Most anime no matter how good have something that would alienate the average viewer. Whether it be weird aliens/creatures, to magic or just blatant fan service. Bebop has none of that. Its set in the future yet nothing outlandish in terms of aliens or technology exists and the concept of space travel isn't that farfetched for the average viewer.

Ahh, my true favorite anime of all time. I've been a fan of the series for going on 13 yrs now. Hell the 1st episode I watched was the very last episode of the series. I've loved Spike since that 'bang' at the end. It took me a full year to actually fully watch the show. This was where I was introduced to Steve Blum and followed him still to this day. I can still watch the series and listen to the music continuously. I have to say that I can hand this series off to anyone who's never watched anime and go "watch this" and they loved it.

This anime is really great in other places, not only in the United States. In Mexico it is also one of the most popular animes in history, one that everyone saw at a given moment. I can safely say that Cowboy Bebop is one of the most influential animes of all time, even though multiple ethnicity and American style help a lot, it is the development of the story and the characters that makes a good anime with many references to one of the best anime series of all time.

gundam wing pulled me into anime, I think that bebop could continue its run with a mock series like an OVA about andy running around pretending to be spike and all the characters trying to run him down thinking it's spike and then discover more about themselves and the andy reveal at the end saying see you later space cowboys and a shadow of spike to play out with the real folk blues...gives me goose bumps thinking about it...

First time, I watch Cowboy Bebop, from start to finish, I was 18, it was on Adult swim. Sometimes, I reminisce, about that, and I still miss it, a lot, now. I was still in High School at that time, I started watching Cowboy Bebop in February of 2010, and then Bebop ended in late April of 2010. The only crappie part about my experience with Bebop, was after, I finish watching it. And, at that time, I didn't have any friends or family, I could share or relate with my experiences about Bebop. On a side note, Cowboy Bebop conuited to play from the beginning on Adult swim, each time, it would end, very rinse and repeat process. But, anyways, I remember taking such joy from watching Cowboy Bebop, and looking forward to seeing it, on Saturday night, or, Sunday morning, thanks to Dish network, DVR. And, it didn't matter if, I had a good week or bad week at School, Cowboy Bebop made life Awesome!!! And, yes it, is still one of the best anime, I have ever seen "You're gonna carry that weight"

He was one of, if not the very first person who believed that martial arts was something everyone had the right to learn, and his teachers where angry at him for wanting to teach martial arts in America back in the 50s, because it would mean that any race, not just Chinese people could learn it. Now if that doesn't sound like a plot to an American movie, the freedom for anyone to teach or learn anything they desire while challenging the norms, I don't know what is!

Sage seems to have done a few mistakes here that he should not have made because they are so easily avoidable: 1) Native Americans were also featured in Dragon Ball with two of them being frequently featured characters early on. Also Native Americans were also the hosts of the Shaman tournament in Shaman King with, again, two of them being main characters. I am sure there are some more, but I can't think of any now. 2) That Spike's last name is "Spiegel" does not imply that he is Jewish. For that he would need to show the respective cultural traits. Also "Spiegel" is not a Jewish name, it is a German, or if you prefer Central European name and the word means in German, Yiddish and Dutch "mirror." And before anyone comes with "but Yiddish etc." Yiddish is a west-germanic language that developed from high-german during the Middle Ages. The only reason Sage probably thinks Spike might be Jewish is because so many Jews in America have German surnames and these are the Jewish examples he is most familiar with. 3) Bruce Lee was born in America, in San Francisco to be precise, which later helped when he moved there at 18, but he grew up in Hong Kong.

Another huge thing for anime on TV (here in Chicago at least) was broadcast channel 62 which from about '93ish-'98ish aired Anime on Tuesday and Friday nights and called it "Japanimation". A *huge* portion of the movies and OVAs Sage has reviewed aired on there, which is where I saw this stuff for the first time and later tracked down VHS copies to rent (or in a few magical cases *buy*). Being born in 83, I was just the right age at the time. Later, they would air ECW wrestling, lol

A great episode Sage, and you are spot on explaining why Bebop found its success in the West. However you overlooked one point, the quality of its localization. Truly the gold standard for anime dubs.

So last October I finally sat down to watch Bebop and have to say, very much worth the full attention. I put on the first episode while unpacking my room and found myself watching more than unpacking. It's a bit off to follow early but picks up quick. All the characters are unique and interesting with their own underlying stories that you get hints of each episode. Eventually each character more or less gets an episode or 2 to give background.

I....am a later fan of the series. I'm quite young but my love for old anime is strong. To be honest, when I was 7 or 8 and my parents would allow me to watch Toonami I'd see Bebop on the schedule block list. Although it was on at 5 A.M. where I lived. So, the most I ever got out of it was reading the description of each episodes. It wasn't until I was 12 (13 now if you are curious) that I saw it on the new Toonami block. So I stayed up drinking soda just to see this odd series I had never heard of. The episode I watched was "Heavy Metal Queen" and I have to disagree with you Sage. The episode itself is quite good. It was after that it didn't have much of an effect besides me finally being happy with what had been messing with me for quite a while. The lost series I always heard of. And I believe what Toonami was smart for still rerunning it. I'm very big into movies either it be Spaghetti Western's like A Fist Full of Dollars so older Zombie films like Dawn of the Dead. So as a fan of the film making experience I really enjoyed. My dad liked the series when I showed it to him and he noticed that most of the city shots remind him of Blade Runner. I belive that if you were to set people down and watch Bebop and have them notice movie elements the list would be quite long. And that's why I think so many people enjoy it. Most everyone can point out one aspect of a certain film in this series and I think that's why everyone loves Bebop. Well, my ramblings here are done. See you, Space Cowboy.

0:11 - 0:13 I know, I'm late to the party on this one, but I can confirm that there is footage from Outlaw Star in this video. 2, maybe 3 frames tops, from the hot springs episode, where we see Aisha throwing a fit because the hot springs aren't hot enough for her physiology.

I remember my first anime was naruto on CN anime block which later introduced me to adult swim and then I saw this show. I can't remember when or where watched it or which episode was my first(I think it was Pierrot le Fou and then I continued from there) I also remember catching the ending quite early and was a little confused but then the whole series started over again and I got to know the characters and slowly realized the weight of the ending and I fell in love with this anime and hold it close to my heart. If there's any anime that could be amazing if rebooted properly it would be this

lol i feel so old!! I was 11 during this shows first airing on adult swim in 2001!!! I loved it from the very first episode but it was ep 5 ballad of fallen angels that really blew my mind. But being old isnt so bad, i was lucky enough to literally watch our culture shift in such a significant way when it came to anime over the years and bebop had a huge part in it

As with "Singin' In The Rain," (the favorite film of folks who don't like musicals), "Cowboy Bebop" is the favorite Anime of people who don't like Anime. I stumbled onto Adult Swim's most interesting Anime in the early 2000s with "Waltz For Venus."

I really loved bebop, one of the first anime adult anime I watched. I say adult because I grew up with horrendous 4kids dubs, and the closest to adult I had gotten was inuyasha when my great uncle purchased me the first season boxset because it was an anime. I watched bebop and trigun within weeks of eachother because my mom's friend was trying to get her into anime. I ended up watching it with her for the most of the series and loved it. Bebop, and trigun are some of the biggest reasons why I came to love anime. As for indians in anime there are an OK amount with the first that comes to mind being Wolfs Rain. That's a series which I am very jealous that my mom's friend has the box set for. It goes for a few hundred dollars now.

Great review I'd have to say. Bebop wasn't the reason I loved anime it's why I still do. First anime I seen was battle of the planets. Then as America caught on by imitating that furthered my curiosity and amazement at a new type of animation. Eg Robotech. I got hooked and I searched where I could. Toonami was a big help, DragonBall series, and anime movies, (wicked city and ninja scroll) thanks again for that rebiew. Whenever cowboy bebop airs I watch it. See ya space cowboy...

This is one of the anime i am aware of but never really sat down and watched it. As for seeing the sub vs dub argument once again. I believe the only reason older anime fans bitch about dubs so much is because the 80's & 90's had such dumpster fire tier dubs that it permanently put them off the idea of dubbing anime forever. For me It's simply a matter of enjoyment i prefer to hear the dialog & understand what's being said without having to look down (or up depending on the sub) & read the dialog/plot. This is what's kept me away from a lot of anime series people tell me are great. And why it kills me that Funamation is going though the bullshit it's currently going through.

first episode I saw was radical edward. hooked me immediatly- Bebop is a masterpiece and it does so cause its a labor of love- truly honest love. so much care was taken in this whole production, that it was impossible not to be perfect. even "bad" episodes are just episodes I dont like as much as the better ones- or focus on Faye who Im not fond of as a person- but her character is so flushed out and well done-that my dislike of her is more than a technical reason like "voice" "design" or something about her acting, instead I just dont like her moral fiber. and the fact that someone I dont like- still has a story Id easily cry over, says alot about how good they are about building characters.

I must say, the soundtrack for Bebop is indeed one of the most interesting ones I've ever seen in anime. I mainly love how it was used throughout the series, the scene with spike falling out the chapel window is probably one of my favorite examples. Yoko Kanno did amazing by all means. Though personally I'm more of a Yuki Kajiura fan but never the less. Also Pierrot le Fou is probably my favorite episode from Bebop.
