A couple of things to note 1. 13 people pointed at Ymir and the camera shifts to look like a tree (13 years to live) 2. There were 9 petals on the flower Ymir fell in front of before falling in the hole (9 titans) 3. The feathers for the arrows that Ymir were shot with, are the same as the “wings of freedom” on the scouts backs 4. The creature is a hallucigenia, which is one of the first multi cell organisms that came out of something called the basin of life. 5. Ymir was born 2000 years ago, making her a version of our Jesus. 1920 years later the great titan war happens and Marley takes control, 80 years after that episode 1 begins, 2000 years after ymir. @Qprah
@Qprah Год назад
@@SpiritOfLion the Great Titan War is listed on the AoT Wiki as having happened between the years 743-845, so it was specifically 102 years long, and then 5 additional years until the Trost attack in S01E05 which starts the majority of the pre-season4 time-skip story period. This also tracks because I vaguely remember in one of the first 5 or so episodes of season 3 that Erwin tells Pixis that their memories had been taken from them 107 years ago. After they captured the nobles involved with the fake royal family plot they told their captors the truth because they believed that once Historia had eaten Eren she would be able to reset their memories again, so there was no reason to get tortured to protect the info anymore. I've seen people do the math of it and the Founder Ymir's life does add up to be exactly 2000 years earlier.
@MysteriMustacheToast
@MysteriMustacheToast Год назад
Every Titan that has ever come to existence, every nick and scratch ever healed by a Titan shifter, were all results of Ymir quietly forming everything from sand as she wandered inside the coordinate. Time in the coordinate is both instant and infinite. For Ymir who’s been slaving away for 2,000 years, it must have felt like an eternity. Remember that the walls were composed of MILLIONS of colossal titans and Ymir was forced to build every single one of them with her own two hands. Ymir didn’t just die from the spear because she technically could have healed herself as a Titan shifter. But like Falcon once mentioned, the ability Titan shifters have is only possible if they themselves still have the will to live. Ymir chose to let herself go out of despair and misery having realized that no matter what she does, Fritz would never see her as anything more than a slave. Stockholm syndrome is exactly what it was. A couple more callbacks in this episode: 5:24 - another Ymir once experienced this exact sort of betrayal. Every finger unfairly pointing at her, turning her into a scapegoat. And just like this Ymir, she willingly took the unfair blame in the hopes of receiving love/purpose in return for her ‘kindness’. 5:38 - remember what Major Gross said when he kicked Grice off the wall to use him as bait? “Very well. You are free.”

@trueblaze84
@trueblaze84 Год назад
@@locomojoboy2 It's likely the same thing that gave her the titan power was also making her "immortal" by holding her in that place, on purpose or accident who knows. As for why she's still obeying Fritz, it's called slave mentality. Basically a person spends so long in some type of forced servitude they can no longer act unless someone tells them to. Hence why she would only do things when one of the King's decedents told her to, and also why she couldn't do anything for herself until Erin told her to do what she wanted to do instead.
@MysteriMustacheToast
@MysteriMustacheToast Год назад
@@trueblaze84exactly. There’s a commonly told story that highlights this exact psychological mindset in the context of how they used to train elephants in the circus. It’s said that if a chain is used to tether an elephants ankle to a stake everyday, after a long enough time, the elephant will continue to faithfully stand by the stake even if the chain were to be replaced with a single strand of hair. Even the idea of freedom being a possibility is often unfathomable to those who have been living with slave mentality for a long time. At some point, the physical chain becomes irrelevant and what truly binds the individual is in the head.

The King Fritz in this episode and the King Fritz who made the vow renouncing war are not the same guy -- almost 1900 years separate them. "Fritz" is a name passed down from generation to generation (maybe it was the family surname, or maybe just a popular first name in the family), until the royal family in the walls and decided to hide by changing their name to Reiss and putting a fake Fritz on the throne. The first Fritz was obviously a bloodthirsty conqueror, but the Fritz of 1900 years later ("The King of the Walls") was ashamed of this history, made the vow to renounce war, and retreated to the island to await their eventual doom.
@Qprah
@Qprah Год назад
Correct. This King Fritz is the original Eldian King, he never had any titan abilities of his own. King Fritz; First King of the Walls, was the one who stopped the Great Titan War 80 years prior to the current time period, who gave 7/9 titans to Marley and the Tyburs then took as many of the Eldian people with him to the island where he built the walls and made the vow renouncing war.

@r_bear
@r_bear Год назад
Yeah, a certain character later is right when they say "Genocide is wrong, and I'll be damned before I try to justify it somehow"-but seeing Ymir's whole story and then seeing Zeke running and crying and demanding that Ymir obey him because he has royal blood vs Eren telling her that she has agency... it's good writing.
@Bioren93
@Bioren93 Год назад
@@r_bear I would strongly argue that its not agency but freedom. "You are not a slave" abolishes her obligation to the royalty , "You are not a god" removes her responsibilities to her subjects and "You are just a human" shows her she has free will and choice. In a sense Eren did not use Ymir as an agent to his goals but in actuality he genuinely gave her freedom.
@r_bear
@r_bear Год назад
@@Bioren93 that's what "agency" means; it literally means "ability to act." That fits better contextually because Eren has no power to free her from anything; he isn't special in that sense in Paths. He's doing what could be done in real life: telling someone that they have choices; that they can do what they want to do. That they can *act* as they see fit.
@fs400ion
@fs400ion Год назад
@@Bioren93 Exactly. I'm not one of those who say Eren is right, far from it, but I'm disappointed at fans overlooking Eren's good sides. This scene is what there's best in Eren. I'm sure he genuinly cared for her. It was not about manipulating her to get what he wants AT ALL. He saw a slave, and as a freedom lover, he wanted to free her. That's also why he saves Ramzi when he knows he'll end up dead later anyway. His nature was simply triggered by an innocent getting beaten up.
@basedtortellini
@basedtortellini Год назад
Eren gives Ymir a choice here, but if her choice impeded on his own freedom to act, he would not have. I think it is important to keep in mind that Eren doesn't value freedom, he values HIS freedom. "If someone is willing to take my freedom... I won't hesitate to take theirs" is a verbatim quote from him the episode prior. This quote essentially summarizes his motives for the genocide. He is forced to take away other's freedom, because they have chosen to impede on his own freedom. It isn't really out of any sort of grand selfless desire to preserve freedom itself, he just wants to protect Armin and Mikasa (among a few others). And that's his choice. Is it morally wrong to preserve your own agency over another person's agency? Of course not. However, the question becomes morally grey when you are preserving your own agency at the cost of billions of other people's agency. At that point, I would concede my own agency to the rest of the world, rather than slaughter billions, but I would emphasize that doing the opposite is not as clearly morally reprehensible.

this is copied from another video (: I've been preparing this comment for quite some time to explain what happened here. Trust me, this is worth reading and ofc, without spoilers (also, there will not be any other explanation in the following episodes up until the end so...). Two thousand years ago, the titans were born from the powers of Ymir and in the previous episode, Zeke told us that she is a slave of the royal family for unknown reasons (at least for now). In this episode, Grisha tells us that the attack titan was created to fight the king's self-righteousness and that Frieda (the royal family) was unaware of it. In other words, Ymir would have created the attack titan behind the back of the royal family. We know that each primordial can see the memories of its predecessors (Porco seeing Marcel's memories or Armin with Bertholdt). But, in this episode, we learned that the attack titan has the power to read the memories of its future holders. This power, only Eren discovered it... When? How?. The response is simple: by mistake. When Eren kissed Historia's hand, he saw his father killing the royal family but he also saw his father chatting with Zeke and his future self. The power of the attack titan is not to see the future directly but simply to observe the memories of the next holder if this one accepts it. For example, at the end of the episode, Grisha does not see Zeke, he sees himself, facing Zeke, from Eren's point of view. You can see Eren as a camera where he can choose, whenever he wants, to share his current vision to his predecessors. Then, to "know" the future, he has to share his vision to the predecessors and then see in Grisha's memories what's going to happen. There can only be one future (obviously). So when Eren decided to share his memories, he writes history, and the future cannot change anymore, otherwise his memories could not be transmitted to others and history would change. It's fate. When Eren shows his memories, he transmits them to all his predecessors simultaneously. Now you know why Eren was saying "TATAKAE" in front of the mirror: he was actually sharing his memories and using the mirror so that his predecessors can see him. Try to imagine: the first person gets the attack titan two thousand years ago and sees Eren telling him "fight, if you don't fight, you can't win". Apart from this person, all those who inherited this titan thought they were seeing the memories of the first owner, when in fact, they were seeing the memories of the last owner of this titan. Exactly, Eren must be the last attack titan, because if there is a new one, he could share is memories to change history and that is not possible. To be precise, Grisha was also aware of the impact of the future on his time. When Eren shared his memories, by "mistake", he revealed the presence of Zeke. From this moment, Grisha start understanding the power of the attack titan. Another thing: Now, we know why Eren Kruger said "To save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else, you must see it through.". In fact, everyone who had the attack titan knew they had to save Mikasa and Armin, but they didn't know it was future memories. -------> To be clear: the moment the attack titan was created by Ymir, the whole story was written and could not be changed. To understand how the story is written, you have to admit that the story is written from the end. Okay, so Eren wants freedom for him and his friends. When he thinks he got that freedom, he shares his memories and the past can't change. In fact: two thousand years of history has been written at that exact moment. Inevitably, we are going to the future that Eren saw, and no one can change a thing. If for example, Eren wanted to be a pizza maker (yeah...), the attack titan goal would not be to fight the king's self-righteousness, but to make pizza and the history would have been different. That's because Eren wants freedom that every holder of the attack titan wanted freedom as well. Eren Kruger told us on the wall that Grisha was "chosen" to have the attack titan. In fact, this titan is transmitted each time to someone revolutionary. Indeed, if someone revolutionary has the attack titan, he will want to bequeath it to someone who shares his revolutionary ideas and that's how the titan has travelled through history to "fight" the royal line. It's funny to see that Zeke thought that Eren was being manipulated by his father, when we learn that Eren was manipulating two thousand years of history ^^. The story is actually a loop: Grisha steals the founding titan -> Grisha gives both titans to Eren -> Eren can attack Marley -> The can "kidnap" Zeke -> they can "touch" each other -> they can travel in Grisha's memory -> Eren can "contact" Grisha through memories and tell him to steal the founding titan -> ... (loop) This is the ultimate paradox of Attack on Titan. You can't find a beginning to the story except from the end. Another paradox: Eren ordered Grisha to spare Rod Reiss -> So he's going to look for his daughter (Historia) -> he will get killed by her -> She will become the new Queen of Eldia -> Eren will kiss her hand for the presentation of survey corps medals -> So he can look at his father's memories and see himself ordering to Grisha to spare Rod Reiss -> ... (loop) Here is my last point: When Zeke wanted to use his scream, Eren said "Wait!". At first sight, we can think that Eren hesitates and does not want to lose the people dear to him (Pixis for example). It's not that at all. Eren tells him to wait a second, so that Falco, his brother (Colt) and Gabi can arrive and do their dialogue. Once Zeke uses his scream, he orders Falco to "defend" Eren. That's what allows Eren's run. Also, without that little second, Gabi wouldn't be there and couldn't shoot Eren. Since Eren kissed Historia's hand, there are many details like that and I encourage you all to watch SNK again to find out more. Thanks you for reading this, it is always with great pleasure that I like to discuss this masterpiece that is SNK.

His plan was a global coalition to exterminate Paradis and take the Founding Titan, gaining full mental and genetic control of that entire race of people. All before Eren did anything. I want you to think about what would have happened if Grisha hadn't left those journals. They wouldn't know there was an outside world. They wouldn't know the threat of Marley, its attitude towards them, or the world's attitude towards them. I want you to think about how much damage those airships did in a rough, poorly planned, sneak attack by what's left of Marley's military. Just raining bullets from the sky. What if they had come in full force, navy shelling from the sea, airships raining fire down, Titans running amok. But with Shinganshina rebuilt AND reinhabited. It's only empty because they knew in advance. An unsuspecting Paradis, looking for Titan enemies? They would've been slaughtered. If only Grisha's notebooks hadn't existed. What's the proper response when you catch a bunch of countries while they're planning a genocidal attack on you?
@alexgarcia7643
@alexgarcia7643 Год назад
I always think of this story as, what if Paradis was North Korea? If viewed from that perspective, the Titans in the walls would be Nukes. The people being ignorant of the outside wall would fit with Paradis. The fear the outside world has for NK that they may begin a nuclear war fits with the myth of Paradis' walls. From their perspective, we are all their enemies if war ever started. The Wall where Marley created the Titans that roamed Paradis could be the DMZ. NK is known for the starvation of it's people, while a few powerful individuals live in opulence, just like inside the walls. The people in NK would feel justified to destroy the rest of the world if we attacked, but to the rest of the world, we would view them as devils.

-Fun fact: when the people pointed at Ymir, they showed exactly 13 arms pointing, indicating that she has 13 years to live, otherwise known as the "curse of Ymir" -Also, Ymir's founding titan is estimately 80 meters tall, Whereas Eren's titan is 4 times her height, so (estimately) 320 meters tall. -And, while Willy Tybur said there were dozens of millions of "wall" titans, that was only an exaggerated number from king *Karl Fritz* to scare the outside world, and keep them away from the island, as the island wouldn't fit such big number, I'm not sure of the exact number, but I once saw a video suggesting there's about 600,000

Here's some kinda fun facts. When Ymir gained the power of the Titans she was 12. By the time she was 17, she had 3 kids. Time works differently in the place Ymir is in. What was 2000 years for everybody in the real world, was probably more like hundreds of thousands of years for her. Ymirs Founding Titan was HUGE. We don't know exactly numbers, but estimates put her at 250 or so meters tall. That's about as tall standing up as the Rod Riess Titan was long lying down. The time from when Eren gets his head blown off to now, was about half a second in the real world

I hate king fritz, he is a bastard. seriously. because of him he started this ritual of eating the spine to pass down the power. it was him that didn't love ymir, used her and then when she needed his love the most he couldnt give it to her. ugh. So. In case you're still confused about King Fritz. King Fritz who erected the walls. Those sand. And Uri Reiss. The first King Fritz was this King who were some kind of chief of a clan. He got lucky with Ymir. Somehow the slave he wanted to kill spearheaded his military and helped build infrastructure. So now, his tribe become a kingdom/nation/empire. Conquering a nation called Marley. Kinda like the Romans being invaded by non- Romans. The 145th King of Eldia (surname still Fritz) dislike how things were at his time. So, he gathered some of his subjects, asked Ymir to build so many colossal titans to form a wall. He brainwashed his entire subject inside the walls, whilst negotiating with Ymir somehow so that his descendants will be "pacifist". E.g Uri Reiss, Frieda Reiss, Rod and Uri's father. He changed the name of Fritz to Reiss and installed a fake king named Fritz, and went into hiding. The colossal titan walls serve as a threat to the outside world. While in reality, the king just wanted peace for some times. If you really count it, the time checks out. To you in 2000 years. From you in 2000 years. 145th king Frits. 100ish years since the "humanity outside the walls perished" Now about the sands. She can really form anything. That includes flesh and bones. That's how she patched up Zeke. She worked much harder than just build those colossal titans. Everytime someone summoned the power of titans, she built them all by hand. Time in paths in infinite and instant in real world. All the flesh, all the bones, all the hardening, all the walls. Why obey people with titan shifter power? Well, that's a proxy of the last command of the first King Fritz. Breed and multiply. Eat to inherit the power. Eldia shall rule the world with its monstrosity. All the titans behaviour, etc, is a proxy of the command of the first king Fritz. Somewhere along those 2000 years, the kings at those time might experiment. So we have the 9 titan shifter. We have the Ackerman. We have some additional rules, as long it doesn't go against the first king command. Until the 145th king Fritz -- the first king of the wall

@@frankyd7816 We know what he did/how it happened. We're saying that Eren literally said he'll destroy the whole world in season 1 episode 25. Meaning we all should've known he'd eventually would become the common enemy everyone would unit to defeat. ALSO in season 1, Pysix asking Eren if the world had a common enemy would the world unit to defeat it. Eren essentially said that's foolish. Look at where they lived, getting eaten by titans & yet humanity at the time didn't even unit against that.

Willy Tybur brought all of the worlds military to unite them to go destroy paradise and retain the titans they lost. So regardless if eren went to Marley or not , they were coming to paradise. Eren could see the future too ,so he already saw that they weren’t going to stop coming to fight them , even after Willy told the whole world the truth. so Eren technically didnt start it he just gotta do what he gotta do 🤷🏾‍♂️

Eren didn't incite a war. He waited to attack until Willy Tybur made a formal declaration of war at his speech. Marley incited the war, but he made the first move to get the upper hand. The moment you declare war on someone, you can't play the victim just because you didn't get to make the first move (and that's only to say they didn't make the first move in the war itself, because they'd ALREADY made a move years ago prior).

When Eren acknowledged he was the same as Reiner, it wasn’t because they would both do terrible things, but because they both had no choice. They both had to do it to save their world. Plus, Willy declared war and Eren just pulled the quickest counter ever.

Actually it's kind of the reverse: Eren says Reiner had no choice and that they're the same, but then Reiner says that he made the choice to go on, even knowing the devastation he would cause. Eren reiterates that they really are alike, because he too is making the choice to move forward with his plan despite knowing the devastation _he_ will cause. The "choice" is between allowing yourself to be killed for the world's benefit/wants, or fighting to survive and refusing to lay down and die.
