Tbh. nepo is a an emotional human. He played energetically, took risk and quite frankly lost a very very painful game in round 6. It is psychologically difficult to recover from a 7 hrs+ lost, especially by a slim margin. He was playing well until then. He gets severely affected psychologally, it's obvious. After the first loss, it just went domino. Feels bad, but you will never reach the very top if your emotions control you like that. Really just how it works. Either way, Ian is probably doing completely well, he is at a level few can reach.

Ian might be one of the most naturally gifted players today, but he is emotionally unstable and cannot control himself at the board, just like Vassily Ivanchuk before him. instead of realising themselves they were both made aware by their co hosts actually that its a no-good move. so yeah some kind of blindness for the trap..but anyway, its still different throwing moves out from commentary then actually making the move over the board. neither of them wouldve done that. Dang. Its a shame we didn't get a chance to see an on-form Nepo challenge Magnus, because he has that greatness in him to compete with the best. Just seems like he's had trouble bringing it out these last few games. Hope he turns it around in the next few games.
@Alexandre-gg7qd

I mean, everyone knows the chances of Magnus losing now are minimal if not non existent, he's simply a stronger player right now. And to be honest, as Magnus himself said, Ding Liren and Fabiano Caruana are tougher opponents than Nepo, hence why they're both ahead of Nepo and why the WCC 2018 was so close with Fabi, he's simply better. Let's see how Alireza does tho, this kid has everything to be a tough challenge.

probably.... though magnus calling the move absurd in nepo's presence at the press conference was equally painful. you know, nepo has been nothing both humble and gracious in defeat during the match but normally he has this air of superiority and know it all surrounding him. he would ridicule this move and the gm making it also so all is fair.

"Howler" doesn't even begin to describe this. Given the stage on which it was played and the long time control, it's going down as one of the worst blunders in history, right up there with Chigorin missing a mate in 2 vs Steinitz. Poor Nepo...
