my guess would be the social pressure/expectation to be the best, etc. just a little release valve to take things a little less seriously, but I'm no psychotherapist
It’s easy to hate and comment on how bad that blunder was by fabi at the end. But please remember, while you’re here commenting about others peoples mistakes, the actual guys playing are making history. You never know the feeling of playing the greatest ever in an endgame and to go toe to toe with him. Congrats to magnus on the win and fabi being quick on his feet.
Most people in chat wouldn't have noticed the blunder if they didn't have commentary. Even with an eval bar, it all happens too fast for the average player to register.
Yeah, Fabi will have been World Champion long ago. Por guy is living in the Paul Morphy era, only that this time he did not quick as fast. Fabiano is 31 years old. He is probably preparing like crazy, this is his chanse.
@@perkalov Magnus outplayed him because he's better under pressure. So yeah, it was the clock but that means Magnus is better and he is. A hundred percent.
Magnus is absolutely fearless. He just goes for it and comes out on the positive end almost everytime. He does trust his instincts a lot. That's why he is the GOAT!
@@JA-nv4zb how is what he said sexist? if the guy has a high pitch voice and hypes up the game i'm sure the commenter will attribute the stress to him as well. Dont bring gender into this.
an exciting rapid game between the two best players in the world and a comment section clearly contrasting those who are arrogant and condescending and those who are respectful and sympathetic. you love to see it.

Nah dude, Fabi had endless chances to convert he just made a few boo boos. Got to have confidence in yourself to convert when winning or you'll never get anywhere
In top level competitive games, regardless of game type. The mental edge is real. Good players can still perform at their peak, but it takes SO MUCH MORE energy to do so. You are never at ease, it leads to mental fatigue / blunder much quicker than usual. Going against the GOAT, knowing the end game is hugely in MC’s favor would amplify this effect. MC & Garry both mentioned this edge, opponents would simplify and draw favorable positions. Opponents would be visually stressed when in obviously advantaged position. Hikaru said ad much playing against MC, whereas playing in blitz he does not feel this stress because he knows he’s level with, if not better than Mc. Props to Fabi for a great game though.
To emphasize he's the best. He could show up in tennis shoes and a speedo and if they want the best, they have to accept it. I also think it's a bit morphy.
Magnus has a routine where he drives to the tournaments in his pyjamas then gets ready at the event, sometimes he doesn't have enough time due to traffic conditions.
you don't think he didn't see the pawn could be taken, right? he was trying to win a tempo bringing his king over while white plays Rxh3-Rd3. At that point Fabi was playing for a draw. You see the hesitation between Kf7 and Kf6 on the last move? That was his last chance to save. He should have played Kf7 to leave the f6 square vacant for the queen so he could play Qf6+ after Re8. That was the decisive and the worst blunder. Because it's obvious white will play Re8 next. But he had so little time left.
Incredible, wild game. One of the great things about chess is it can look like it's going to be a boring draw and then out of nowhere all hell can break loose
anyone above 1500 knows that this was a conscious decision by magnus given the position. he volunteered the position therefore he gave up his queen for a rook and promotion. fabi didn't have a way to perpetually check magnus.
Hikaru, this is the best attacking chess I have seen so far in the tourney. Keep it up. Nepo need to lose for you to take the lead. Please win tomorrow.
Agreed. I know most chess channels show hypothetical lines but those are usually more instructional videos. If it's a live game please do that with a separate board or something so we can keep track of the actual game moves.
What's this interruption? They keep showing different boards. It's not nice at all. Leave that for later reaction and let's enjoy the flow. Let the viewers form their own predictions as they watch. Thank you
