I'm a Trower Fan from way back. No this is NOT trower but just the fact she has the balls to play it live speaks volumes. Are others doing it? I would love to see Trower and her collaborate.
Everybody knows she is celebrated as one of rocks greatest but she is not James Dewar. I had the good fortune to see him with Trower in 1980. Always has been one of my favorite singers and his voice combined with Trower's guitar made that band one of the all time greats.
@2kviper, 👍👍friend. This clip popped up in my YT today Thanksgiving Day Nov 23 2023, and Trower has released a recording 'Joyful Sky' in the last few weeks with a NYC based lady singer Sari Schorr. Personally, I don't like her vocals overly much and from Ann's performance here I would have MUCH preferred her to record those songs with The Master.
I have seen Heart 3 times (1978, 79 and 2013). Ann is one of 2 female rock goddesses with soulful pipes (Pat Benatar is the other). And I've seen Robin Trower 3 times as well (1975, 1999 and 2004). He's the only artist who can play his songs (sorry Ann). But I love her vocals!! 😍🎤🎶
Yeah he is the only one who can play it .. But Ann still sounded amazing :) Great Compliment that 2 guitar players couldn’t hack it when he did it alone ..
I had a friend who could really do this song well. Turns out Marshall tracked his Amp to one that was custom made for the stones at Altamont. What an amazing piece of equipment it is. Sounds too good like magic
There is no comparison to the ledge of Mr. Robin Trower. I've seen him multiple times of over my lifetime and seeing him live and watch those fingers on that 🎸 are just plain crazy. His has a gift that he hasn't been given credit for over his lifetime. Hasn't been even considered by the RocknRoll hall of fame which is total BS. Everyone should at least listen to his early years with James D. RIP. That trio was just plain insane as far taking music to another level that will tried to be copy but will never be duplicate. So please leave his music for listening and not screwing it up. Because if you play like these people did in this video it is a disappointment that you thought you could even hold candle to this legendary guitar God that is still touring at the his age of 77 years old. I know because he was because was scheduled to play in Atlanta Ga this past weekend and I sure would like to have seen one time in person. Respect to a true ledge of music.
The guitar work isn't even close to Robin Trower's from the original version he wrote...Ann does a decent job on this song...would love to see her sing it with Robin Trower.
Robin Trower wrote this song with emotional peaks and valleys for a reason. The song was written to be sang and not screamed. Usually like Ann's voice but this sounds like a garage band rehearsal!
I thought Ann Wilson on the vocals were acceptable, but the guitar work couldn’t compare with the original recording by Robin Trower back in the seventies, if she performed with Robin and his band, such as someone else here suggested, it might have had a chance to fly, but this version fell short by a mile, in my opinion. They definitely rushed it along and ended it short and left important parts out. Ideally, the guitarists should have been able to play a reasonable facsimile of the song, especially since there are two of them and Robin plays this song with just two other musicians, the bassist/vocalist, and the drummer. Although they could easily have added their own style to the performance, the essence of the original recording should still be intact, unless, of course, they completely make it their own interpretation, unfortunately, this rendition made it just sound like a cover band attempting to play the song without really knowing the song and without also studying the original recording closely. Ann sounds great, but the back up band just sounds sub-par, it’s too bad, it could potentially have been really good, had the musicians done their homework. A good professional musician should know their strengths, and their limitations as well. If you cannot perform a classic song well, play something else, something that you can manage to play well, or play something original. When you play a well known classic song, a certain level of professionalism should be employed. Ann was the only one that wasn’t butchering the song. Thank you for posting this video! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨
The original is untouchable. Period. Don't even try. I don't care who you are, leave it and walk on. *Update* I've listened to Ann's studio version with Kenny Wayne. It is MUCH better than this unfortunate live take.
the timing.....they're trying to carnival up the tempo, add fills, not what this song is about, it's about u got to wait for it, listen let the silent parts have their say
It's totally great to see her doing this tune. For her age she is still awesome. But....this is not led zeppelin. It's freaking Trower. It's good to see her doing it but it will never have the feel of Trower with Dewer ....I can't leave out Lorden or Isadore
The groove is rushed, and it hits wrong. Ann's vocals sounds great, but this song is sacred ground for many guitarists; (myself included) and the lack of reverence for Trower's tone, dynamics, and making the song a jam leaves me with a bad taste. ...I realize it's a performance, and the leads are in key, and in time with the band; those qualities would normally make everyone happy; but again, this is something sacred. (I wouldn't accept any half hearted jam or twisting of Eddie Hazel's "Maggot Brain," either.) {^My $.02 that don't really matter. I still love Ann's singing, and I still dig Trower. Two living legends.}
Who cares where she is? Nancy is somewhere probably still bitter and hateful towards her former bandmates even after 40 years. She has nothing positive to say them about despite the many contributions they made to Heart when they actually made good music. Pretty pathetic and childish behavior for a nearly 70-year-old woman.
Ann Wilson Rocks and can do anything great. The best pipes in the Business. I can't say the same about that garage band. Trower can get more sound of rhythm and Lead on his Strat then these two hired guns playing together. Sorry, musicians critique everything different.
I get annoyed with these youtube purist in which only the original artist with original players are worthy of listening to. To begin with in the the 60s and 70s many these bands formed and either ceased to exist after a couple of albums or changed band members. I was in Los Angeles during that time period, saw most of the acts. New musicians are a good thing, new players create new influences. You better get use to listening to original bands with new players or other bands covering classic rock songs because in another 10 years hardly any of the original musicians will be alive or physically able to play. If you can't handle that, enjoy watching Justin Bieber live because your options are limited 😆 . With all due respect, a lot of people are overstating Robin Trower's talent level. Yeah, was into his albums but there are many guitar players as good or better.
LOVED your EXCELLENT vocals, the l-h guitarist with long hair needs to calm tf down: the tune is not about shredding or randomised notes, it is ALL about the TONE AND FEEL as well as pacing, spacing and moments when NOT to play any notes. OK, I'm a Trower purist but if you aren't going to improve on anything you're replicating, or trying to, then maybe just copy the masterful original. Still enjoyed it, not as much as I would/should have done
Yeah this kinda kills a sacred cow guitar wise. Where's Warren Haynes? He would have made it a point to play this like Trower. I actually hear some wrong notes because those whole step bends were not pulled off. Pretty pitiful.
Trower and Dewar created a masterpiece with this song. This lot have stripped out every last bit of mood and foreboding from it and turned it into something instantly forgettable. I hate my ears for listening to it.
As much as I love Tom Bukovac's guitar playing, this version is below par. Really missing the Univibe sound on the guitar. Sounds just like a blues song as opposed to the ethereal classic that it is.
I feel sorry for anyone who heard this as their first rendition of this song. I know the song well. I can still manage (with difficulty) to hear it in this performance, but a first-time listener would have no idea what is supposed to be there behind this sonic wall of mud and overperformance. Ann Wilson has a great voice, but she wastes it here. The weight of these lyrics are carried by an understated performance. Happy to hear this great song float to the surface again after all these years, but not happy to hear it like this.
I have never before given a bad comment on music. I feel as though it’s best to move on and say nothing. In this case, I break my own rule because these players will not suffer any from my opinion and this song is iconic and deserves a defense. BOS is all about subtlety and nuance. They have not actually learned the song for starters. It sounds like a jam session from the 70’s where everyone is simply trying too hard. We have been hearing players ruin Little Wing for decades much the same way. The song is about a death march. Trower and Dewar delivered that message with authenticity. It’s not necessary to play the song exactly like the original but I would suggest that screaming vocals and random guitar noodling doesn’t cut it. I have massive respect for Tom Bukovac and believe that with a producer in the room he could have met the challenge. Anyway, sorry to anyone who may feel offended.
@@CarlKennedyMusic Thank you. No offense taken. I appreciate your honest and thoughtful reply. It would be extremely difficult to come close to the original interpretation of this song. At least Ann was being true to herself in her dramatic sing, scream style of singing , she definitely made it her own.
