I love watching these videos. I don't wanna buy any of those boats, but I just love the calm music, beautiful vessels and the sailing. Other videos talk too much.
It's settled, I'm not spending another summer here in Florida. I lived in Maine for a few years as a kid and loved its legendary sailing legacy and my family's ties to its amazing coast. I'm looking forward to possibly finding something I could sail home on, albeit, unfortunately, not nearly the caliber of this beauty. Also, a wooden boat does have a greater spiritual aesthetic than a fiberglass vessel, if I have to explain it to you, you probably wouldn't get it anyway...
good idea, and I hope you found your boat..if not, I suggest you go with the old design and builds, either Norwegian (John Anker), Swedish, or S&S, etc., or something more modern but still has the lines of a classic like the Js but 30-45ft, or Scandinavian coast sailor...Herreshoff has a big collection of great boats and an archive at MIT if you need parts...then you can sail to the Antigua Classic Sail Week, or the one in Stockholm!
Is this 65'er a yacht which can be classed as more than a day-sailer? It's beautifully made but seems very small for more than coastal sailing 🤔Thanks for any replies 👍
its 52'..its very well built and can take the North sea weather to the Shetland Islands and Scotland, which can get nasty. its quite beamy so very steady as it cuts through the waves but there is little protections against the spray, but hey, buy some Helly Hansen gear..
I love this boat! A perfect blend of classic and modern. However, I am curious why you would go through the effort of building the hull out of wood if you're just going to paint over it? What advantages does wood have over fiberglass?
Wood has positive buoyancy. It floats. Fiberglass does not float, negative buoyancy. In my opinion, this makes for a drier boat that is quieter and doesn't pound as much going to weather. As well, when going downwind, the center of effort goes forward, forcing the bow down, again wood will provide more buoyancy to the bow.
this boat is a cold molded wood epoxy method. wood is saturated in epoxy and then lamenated to a thickness of, on this boat mavbe 3 to 4 inches. maybe 10 layers. it is very strong and beautiful and has the asthetics of wood for wooden boat lovers. she is at lm right now here in camden me, i see her everymorning on my daily walk with my wife and granddog fresca. believe me when i tell you she is every bit as beautiful and stunning as she appears in this video
there are drawbacks and advantageous with both but whatever the case, I would never by a 100% fiberglass boat; its like living in a plastic bag. wood boats are about the feel, and sometimes the sound. Wood is still alive and it needs care, and virtually all top level sailors love them. But if you are a racer and hope to win line honors, you have to go all modern...
Only one thing bothers me with this yacht. Even though it is supposed to look like a classic yacht they could at least put some windows into the hull. I want to see the see when I wake up and have a good ventilation.
No. By 'windows' I assume you mean ports. Not in a hull with so little freeboard. would not 'look like a classic yacht' then. And ventilation is via the hatches and companionway, not ports.
these types of videos are useless if you actually want to find out about the boat, or even buy it. The sound tracks seem to come form the same audio Walmart as all the other ones and makes even the visual wandering loses its appeal. this seems to be a trend in the cruising world as well and a waste of resources.
