I'm glad she spent so long talking about Le Bonheur (1965). It's a film I saw just this year in February after hearing it's premise and finding it very similar to one of my favorite films of all time: The Heartbreak Kid (1972). Both films are subtly eerie and uniquely disturbing, despite seeming very light and pleasant.

I also just saw it! Probably around February, in fact!!! One of the greatest films I've ever seen, can't stop thinking about it. (Two others that I saw within the last few years that similarly have left a similar buzz for me: Chabrol's Les Biches (1968) and Wim Wenders' "Alice In The Cities" (1974, or maybe 75). Anyways I love a movie that leaves a long hangover! Ps I wish I lived in the first ten minutes of Le Bonheur. If the entire movie was just like that first ten minutes, I would have been fine with it!!! 😄

Between this and her Criterion Closet video, it’s clear that she knows her shit and isn’t now directing merely because the opportunity fell in her lap, but because she sees like a director sees. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.

God she’s soooo friggin smart and knowledgeable about the industry she works in. At this point I don’t think it’s just a fun job for her it’s more of a life long passion. Go Anna no pressure but don’t ever slow down well unless you need a vacation. I’m no relation so why I’m I so gosh darn proud of you.

Woman of the Hour was a well done movie. It seemed to be dedicated to relating the facts, and I found it to be an honest take on what it was like to come across such a demon. The message was well received, and I wanted to take the time to tell you that I thought you did a beautiful job directing the film. From one woman to another, keep up the momentum bc you've gotten the message relayed to your audience!

Former Script/Continuity Supervisor here - 3:50 - that is not on the wrong side of the line, you can clearly see Jake Gyllenhall shoulder on the bottom left of the screen. If Maria Bello looks at him she will be looking to the left, while Jake is looking right, making it a perfect match.

What is shooting “on the wrong side of line”? I thought at first it was about crossing the axis but the Prisoner scene with Maria Bello and Jake looks like they’re not crossing the axis.

I really liked the movie. Anna Kendrick is a really good director. I did think it was a bit overdone in the way she presented women as perpetual victims. That was definitely a bit of emotional manipulation. Are these the same white women that happily got black men lynched back in the eras of the Reconstruction and Civil Rights movement? My point is that women are equally capable of manipulating men to do violence as well as being victims of it.
