My favorite version of "Ah, veni al tempio". Beautiful in every way: Her tone, smooth, silky, sweet and rich. Her acting and vocal expression wonderfully moving. And quite technically proficient. Lovely Bel Canto. And all this supplemented by her beautiful face. To those who can't appreciate this because of a slave-like devotion to singers like Callas or Sutherland: You don't love opera. You love Callas and Sutherland. It is possible to love both the old and the new. And I happen to know this is possible, since I do love both. Just because someone isn't just like your favorite singer doesn't mean they aren't talented. And just because YOU don't like a singer doesn't mean they suck. Your judgment (thank God) doesn't run the opera world. If it did opera would have died with La Divina.
@@rogalesi58 Don't make assumptions. Callas is the artist and singer I respect most, and I could happily listen to her alone for the rest of my life. However, that does not stop me from appreciating the beauty of someone else's recording. Anna Netrebko, while I have not enjoyed the direction her voice has gone lately, is in beautiful voice here and sings this magnificently. Even if one can quibble about her bel canto technique, her voice when she was younger was simply beautiful. This recording I think proves that quite well.

@TheAlexandrapaloma Her singing voice itself is like honey and milk and champagne, which is lovely. BUT, I'm afraid she lacks the skills that are required by a bel canto singer. All right, I should have said, "I'm not sure if she's a good bel canto opera singer." The reason is I've listened to her sing RUSSIAN opera and she rocked. She's def. a good Russian opera singer. She might not be a good-enough bel canto opera singer. Sounds all right or you?
She is a very good singer... but some ppl here need to understand this role isnt for her voice. She isnt Callas that could sing any role. Just cause you can reach the right note, means you are the right singer for that role.
@@chery05 Huh? Confusing singers or just doing name dropping? Show me Vishnevskaya's live Gluck , Cherubini ,Spontini,Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti ,lots of Verdi. Vishnevskaya went through life singing Puccini and Tchaikovsky and a tiny little bit of middle-late Verdi .Netrebko should have gone through life singing La Boheme. She did sing La Boheme but unfortunately she did sing other roles too

She is very good ( I can hear her gasping for breath, and we know its rude), but this isnt for her. Callas was more spinto than dramatic, but she could change the color of her voice. This sweet lady cant cause she is only dramatic, its like Corelli singing Pour mon ame... we know he could get up there, but it would sound the way it was wrote
