Yes and no. I don't like how he worded his comment...as if she didn't accomplish anything. It was kind of a back-handed comment in my opinion. Yes, it is a shame she didn't grab more medals, but she had a brilliant career, which included two Olympic games. She IS phenomenal. This floor routine was amazing. She was 4th in the 2004 all-around and 7th in the 2008 all-around. That is phenomenal in my eyes. Everyone focuses too much on the medals. Tim's comment, whether intentional or not, had a negative spin on it and really at that particular time his comments should have been focused on this beautiful floor routine and her amazing artistry and skills. I'm sick of Tim and now sick of Nastia. They need better commentators. The top picks should be Bart Connor, Kathy Johnson, and Amanda Borden. I believe they are stronger.
@@pappysprite Yes but I think Anna had a case of being unlucky and then just making uncharacteristic mistakes during finals: beam Athens 2004 EF, Beijing beam EF (even though she still should've gotten bronze over Fei), vault Beijing 2008, floor Beijing 2008, two huge mistakes in Team EF Beijing. Don't get me wrong she's still an amazingly accomplished gymnast, but she also has let the nerves get to her at the most inconvenient times which is frustrating but you know she still gave us beautiful performances to rewatch.
@@You-dh1dushe’d have likely taken bronze in beam finals in 2008 if not for one thing- start value. Even though Fei had several bobbles she still accomplished all of her SV. Anna lost on SV when she missed that element, along with the deduction for the error. While her routine certainly seemed cleaner in the long run, that was a big deal in a time when SV counted so much- especially when hers was bronze medal sized WITH the element. I’d have loved to have seen her get it, but also understand how it didn’t.
@@alinamervin3481she made her own luck. Errors that cost her medals were not on the judges, not on the scoring system (either of them) and not on anything else EXCEPT HER.
After watching Pavlova you can't base a gymnast awesomeness just off metals. Pavlova success is based on her legacy and she is truly one of the best gymnast ever in the sport. 3 event finals in this scoring system is amazing. Her and Nastia and Cheng Fei were awesome!
@@lb7617here’s the reality- see the code you’re given, adapt to it and use it to greatest advantage… or don’t garner the medals. Not that hard a concept.
Pavlova should be considered as a reference of the beauty of the sport. She put herself in another league with those lines, amplitude and choreo. She should be considered just as great as Lilia, Nadia, SIlivas, Nellie, Maria Filatova, Baraksanova and even Kuchinskaya. All of them took their gymnatics to another dimension with this kind of quality.
Tim and his comments never fail to deliver controversy. Pavlova might not have the trophy case, but everything she brought to the sport in the horrible CoP transition is beyond rewarding to me. He should also mention the horrible luck she had.
What a beautiful event!!! She was amazing. That´s is artistic gymnastics.s Anna Pavovla, Anna Pogras, Catalina Pogras and others represent the end of the artistics gymnastics. Nowdays, we see judges approval acrobatic skills only.
His remark wasn’t well worded, but the reality was she and her coaches never took advantage of either code to the extent for her to contend for an AA medal- or honestly (here) a floor medal. Beam was her one shot until she missed that third element.
Was Carly Patterson who only had an error on vault but then came back and rocked every routine she performed thereafter- and who EARNED her gold. She had a 10 SV on FOUR events, not three like Anna. Same with silver and bronze. You want an AA medal at the Olympics? Have routines that can compete with the very best ACROSS THE BOARD.
The Russian team for London SHOULD HAVE been Aliya Mustafina - VT, UB, FX Viktoria Komova - VT, UB, BB Ksenia Afanasyeva - BB, FX Tatiana Nabieva - VT, UB Anna Pavlova - BB, FX
@CopGymnast861 Yang had a total of 25.7 in difficulty, so if she executed .8 better than her next competitor (like Liukin did against Johnson) than gold could've been possible. Johnson had 26.3 when she hit her splits, and Liukin had 26.1.
@gymLYYFE she should of..but Bars was way over scored and floor was way underscored imo...a gymnast can get a 7.5 d score on bars..that crazy...you could never get that on floor even with all the F and G elements...I wish they would award consistency. Out of the top 10 gymnast in the AA only a few qualifed for more than 1 EF..Pavlova qualified for 3 EF's
After Russia disowned and shunned her following these games she represented Azerbaijan in 2014?) and competed at Euros. I believe she won a vault medal there. I don’t believe she competed at worlds though and retired. Today? I think she’s coaching.
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 Well he's just commenting that she isn't more decorated than she should be. When you see a gymnast that's "fabulous," then you expect them to be incredibly successful. Anna, unfortunately, was basically attracted to fourth place at every turn, and Tim probably thinks she deserved more.
Pavlova is everything artistic gymnastics is, but not what the judges want. Its absolutely pathetic. Pavlova should walked out of Beijing with 1 bronze for beam, and a bronze or silver medal in 2004 in the AA. They should really call this acrobatic gymnastics and not artistic gymnastics anymore. It ended when 2006 hit.
@StFrancoisofthelord HI GREETINGS FROM MEXICO, IT´S TRUE IN LONDON 2012 RUSSIAN FEDERATION HAS ALL TO INDIVIDUAL AND ALL AROUND IN WOMAN GYMNASTICS MEXICO AND RUSSIA ONLY NATION , ALIVE RUSSIA ALIVE MEXICO
@StFrancoisofthelord thats not going to happen sadly...Myzdrikova will not make the team at the rate she is going or Pavlova..even Afan is on the bubble. Russia has a lot of talent...and juniors...Grishina will probably be on the team. Plus there are only 5 spots on the team for the olympics
@PeachVampire94 Yes it is still called Artistic Gymnastics; however, with the ridiculous code of points,,, artistry is pretty much thrown out the window. According to this code of points, Shawn did better than the gymnasts you mentioned. But, I too would love to see Anna Pavlova perform better because she has those artistic qualities. She is my second favorite gymnast EVER. And there have been a great many gymnasts before her.
She participated in all different competitions like (2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, & 2008 Europeans); (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, & 2014 Worlds); and (2004 & 2008 Olympics) but was more consistent at the Olympics...
@gymnut83 - judging has always sucked in a way.....look at all the injustices that have been done in the past and the perfect scores of ten handed out to non deserving performances back in the old scoring days!! if Anna had zero artistry she'd prob have scored higher!!!! zeeesh stinks doesnt it..........
All she had to do was up her difficulty with some different tumbling. She could have kept much of the dance, incorporated a bit more challenging turns and been in contention. Not that difficult and certainly not on the judges for how she chose to compose her routine.
