Annaleigh's voice has matured since legally blonde and Wicked. Plus in theatre the point isn't to recreate the original. It's to create something that captures the essence of the original and puts their own twist on it. That goes with characters. No one can be Idina as Maureen. Only Idina can be. Annaleigh's Maureen is the Maureen that she created with the original character in mind with the directors guidance. Don't hate. Just enjoy the fabulous form of art known as theatre and all the freedom
I love Annaleigh's Maureen! In my mind Idina IS Maureen, but this interperatation is great too, and she has every right to put her own spin on the character. I'm not sure if i love the Joanne though
ya I noticed how this joanne's different but I kinda like it? I feel like joanne is usually played as being so straight-and-narrow and kinda uptight or oldfashioned but I notice in this version she's kinda giving off the same energy as Maureen. it almost makes more sense because that's the kind of Joanne you could understand maureen falling in love with yk? idk the two of them together never made much sense to me the way most people play Joanne but this interpretation has more of a fierce side that has a more believable chemistry with Maureen
this was FANTASTIC. annaleigh and corbin have such amazing voices and they mesh so well together. this is so much different than the original, and that's why it's amazing! i could actually see this happening in alphabet city in 2012. they make this so real.
this is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! i saw annaleigh as glinda in wicked in '08 in NYC & she was amazing in that. i want 2 c her as maureen in rent as well as of 3 min ago!!!!!
Love this so much! Not as good as it was live in the show, but still awesome!! as someone said earlier tho, this was an outdoor performance, it wasn't in context!
I love annaleigh but not as Maureen Also Joanne's voice needs to be ummmmmm how should I put this....meatier than Maureen's and that crucial contrast isn't there with these two
@CleveNMLActor I wasn't upset I was just curious. It baffled me why you would be here. However you're showing some arrogance. Who are you to say what good musical theater is? Performing is subjective if you don't like it that doesn't make it bad that's your opinion and yours alone.
