nzcamper2go - say how do you cut the first layer of fiberglass cleanly? I’m asking about the smaller pieces where you provided a clean edge with the blue masking tape.
From memory, the glass was actually oversized and not that well cut. I think it may look it in the video but its not essential. All you have to make sure is the cloth is well soaked in up to the edge where you want to stop. Anything beyond this point will either be cut away with a very sharp knife or sanded if you are worried about cutting into the wood. One thing I hadn't come across when I built the boat but have used since is Peel Ply. Great stuff. Its laid over the resin and any excess resin soaks through the peel ply and once dry can be peeled off (Im guessing thats where the name comes from!) taking the excess with it. It will also leave a finish that is much quicker to sand and way more uniform in depth. Worth investigating if you are not already familiar with it. Hope that helps.

hello. nice build. i am starting with one from the bare plans. did you fiberglassed the exterior of the hull. or only painted with epoxy and paint. how behave the wood after this years. thanks.
Yes. I would say it is pretty important to use glass fibre cloth on the exterior bottom as this will inevitably be grounded on the beach at some stage. The boat was always stored in doors and washed down after every use so there was no problem at all with the wood.
